Anyone else here into this? I've been looking at the FREE online options (not Wizards awful Magic Online) and there's a good few.

Fully expect this thread to die now since you're better off saying you're into child porn than Magic in some circles:)

I used to play (and spend too much money) on this towards the latter end of my student life.  I still have my collection of (mainly) Revised/4th Ed/Fallen Empires cards rotting away somewhere.

Unfortunately, I've never met anyone outside of student-life who'd even heard of it, and so my interest waned as the number of opponents did.  (And they started fucking about with it too much..too many new releases/rules etc).

I must admit I hadn't considered there would be a free online service, so if you've found one, please link it.

Cerys has also admitted to dabbling in the past too.

Rev

I take it there's a computer version, then.  I'll forever remember it as a card game that got some sad bastard I used to know fired...  he worked in a games shop, and in his quest to get a 'perfect deck' (or something) would open up all of the packets whenever a new box was delivered, take out the ones he was interested in, then re-seal them for sale.  Such was his passion, he ended up doing this right in front of a company spy 'mystery customer', and his career ended because he wanted some cards with pictures on.  The dick.

Ronster

Me and Mr Ronster have been playing it for a few months now and got a few giggles out of it.  I though tit would be pretty bad for years after seeing it about but have been pleasantly surprised.

Rev - love dickhead in shop story reminds me of a mate picking all the currants and cherries out of a xmas cake and getting twatted by his mum later for it when she found a gorgonzola type cake thing left in the pantry

Okay folks

Rules (for those who've never played): http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=magic/rules,,en

Magic Workstation: http://www.magicworkstation.com/

Magic Workstation addons (including the card downloader MWSAssist): http://www.mwsdata.com/

Magic Workstation is easily the best looking of the two programs. Only caveat is a big ad banner at the top of the screen. It's spyware free, but it's still a big ole' ad. Plus I've not found ALL the cards for it yet. Funny Raeat should mention Mirage (that's where I came in, though I do have older cards I bought cheap like Ice Age and Homelands) since that's the main expansion MWSAssist can't seem to find.

MTGPlay: http://www.mtgplay.com/

The latter, I downloaded ALL the cards off of Emule, and it's about 400 megabytes. There are two options though to download card images off the net and from other players. Plus it's totally free. I can shove some cards up on my FTP server if people want to use this option. You can do multiplayer games on MTGPlay (as in more than two players) from what I gather. Not sure about Magic Workstation.

There is, of course, Wizards pay service "Magic Online", but why pay them (especially when they already have so much of my money) when you can play for free with these things:)

Krang

Send me £100 ill post you all my cards. (used once)

And also all of my unpainted warhammer.

TOCMFIC

Since that would work out at over $200 for  me, not to mention customs fees etc... And I can't even afford to pay my phone bill, gas bill, water bill etc... I don't see that happening...

Borboski

Oh... this looks mint. Last year I lost two months of my life to the online BloodBowl aplet. Never mind that my new pc and a radeon 9800 pro - 2d pixels and random dice throws is where it's at!

I'll check this later on this evening, and try and lure someone into a game - but before I do - someone's mentioned a 100mg download there. I'm on swiney fever 56k... Is it going to be worth my while?

"ha ha, I use my wand of impregnatable beavers you wazz! didn't expect that did you! and oh look it's a kitchen knife here... yes... that's right... tomb of boogie-bum bum goes baaaack in the deck..."

RichChestmat

Don't you realise I HAVE WORK TO DO?????
This better not work via our firewall/proxy at work or else....

Grrrrrrr.

Cerys

Damn you!  I feel like playing it now.  And the only things awake in the flat besides me are the cats.  I suspect I'd lose.  They'd nick all the markers.

What Warhammer stuff do you have?

Have you got a link for Blood Bowl?

Borboski

Here is th link;

http://fumbbl.com/

The FAQ is pretty good to explain how to get going... although I found it a bit difficult to get into the chatrooms at first, and had to use the java one rather than the... er.. universal chat room program i forget its name...

but anyway, once you get in the chat room, and built a team, people are very helpful to tell you how to host or join a game.

PM once you've sorted it out and I'll give you game. I played about 8 games and then realised I would had UT2003, Deus Ex, Vice City unopened!

MojoJojo

Bloodbowl Applet! Woo! There goes any chance of me doing anymore work today.

Coincidentally, I just downloaded the old Magic:The Gathering game from www.the-underdogs.org. Not sure if it is any good yet

Borboski

In fact, the reason I gave up on it was because I wanted to play in a tournament against others who weren't fanatical about it, or hadn't played since they were 15.

So if anyone fancies playing playing in a tournament we can set a team rating (pretty low) and collate names here.
