As might Megaupload (http://torrentfreak.com/megaupload-readies-for-comeback-code-90-done-120923/)

And Dotcom is taking the fight to the record companies with Megabox (http://torrentfreak.com/kim-dotcom-teases-megabox-reveals-exclusive-artists-120926/)

And the New Zealand Prime Minister has apologised to Dotcom for illegal surveillance as well as the illegal raid, both of which will make extradition harder. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19741343)

It all seemed like such a good idea at the time...

And here I was thinking that the glory days of the internet were coming to an end.  Seems that the war on piracy is essentially an unwinnable battle.

On the other hand, it's now seems to be accepted that it's all been a cock-up, rather than a conspiracy - I believe it's been suggested that further investigations into the exact course of events will now be curtailed as a result.

I don't believe it's been confirmed that it will make the extradition significantly more problematical. There's an awful amount of 'may's in the reporting, but why should the press bother trying to get legal opinion over legal matters?

I seriously doubt they're out of the picture for any length of time, even if they were totally fucked there's still plenty of other fish in the sea.

Doesn't appear to for me. I went back a few page in the thread and found a couple of links though, so no need to worry I can still download stuff illegally[nb]Not that I'd ever do that, obviously.[/nb].

Not to worry, Mega will be back on the anniversary of the raid (January 19th) with a totally legal, totally safe, totally encrypted version of Megaupload.

So it should be business as usual soon.

A year on and the US still haven't charged Dotcom, and without charges they can't extradite him. And if they don't charge him they will be liable for enormous damages for shutting down the business and a whole swathe of other illegal actions. And defamation. And defamation. And, presumably, taking legal advice from RIAA. Presumably they're hoping that with all their delaying tactics they'll have time to enact a law that works retroactively and across all international borders that makes it illegal to be Kim Dotcom.

Pirate Bay has always been a bit dodgy anyway, too many fake torrents. I use kat.ph and they have everything I need without the fake stuff. Or torrentz.eu which gives you a link to all the torrent sites that have the torrent you want.
