Just been listening to the Dusty Fingers compilations and found this gem - sounds really great crystal clear quality on the LP

I do like KPM especially the 1000 series, some of the 'funkiest' libraries are found there and Hawkshaw et al knew how to play together and make a groove. Ultimately it is pretty unsatisfying, especially when you hear all the music they were influenced by (& were trying to make a few quid from ripping off). The tendency to be grandstanding and so reliant on cliche is a bit vulgar too. For British library, I prefer Boosey & Hawkes, the arrangements are far more interesting and darker in places, whilst not having the same impact in the rhythm section as KPM (apart from a couple of Dennis Farnon tracks). Boosey LP's are more reliant on modern classical and jazz rather than US R'n'B. Late 2000 catalogue to early 3000 Boosey's have some real gems hidden amongst the more typical library dirge. French and Italian Libraries have some serious experimental sides, for instance I've heard 3 or 4 Italian libraries from Morricone's Ill Gruppo that get your heart racing.

The Dewaele brothers have one of their hour-long Radio Soulwax mixes perfect for this thread:

Tracklisting can be found here:

Soundhog is seriously into library music. His subtle 'Soundhog Adds Bass' remix of Mike Vickers' 'Getaway Car' (the original features in the Soulwax mix above) is great, but unfortunately not available since his soundcloud page got C&D'd.

Ta buzby, that mix is great. I've got a million library records (mp3s, natch, I'm not made of money) and I tend to clean the house to them. But people like Soundhog and the Dewaele brothers are doing God's work, because I've yet to discover a particular hidden gem among any of the ones I've listened to.

I sold a load of late seventies/ early eighties library records twenty years ago, preferring the late sixties/ early seventies stuff. Now with the benefit of the distance of time, the batch I sold I really wish I still had.  Idiot.

I saw the KPM All Stars in Edinburgh about five years ago. One of the greatest nights of my life.

Ski Sunday. Grandstand. Chicken Man (Grange Hill/Give Us A Clue).

A load of 80s year old blokes who tore the room apart.

Did they do the theme to Countdown? I saw them at the Jazz Cafe ages ago and one of the greatest moments in one of greatest nights of my life was hearing a room full of loungecore nuts and mods all make the DOOOOOoo sound at the end of the number.

Blimey, and here is that actual moment but you can't hear the DOOOOOoo as loud as I remembered. Bloody, YouTube, ruining memories.

The KPM "Live at the Jazz Cafe" LP only has the "Grandstand" theme as part of a Sports Medley. This has pissed me off, as I really want the full rendition of it they give on the clip above, complete with the organ solo. It's spectacular.

Double bump for the introduction of the amazing and wonderful Mladen Franko

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f1k5p6hmM0

Volume of 2 of this is even better but not available on youtube (I can send if you so wish, PM me). A heady mixture of Vangelis, Alan Hawkshaw, Space Funk and er... Benny Hill.

Don't think that this is library music, per se, but it's still good and has the same vibes
