Good summary of the various hints of something new: http://welcometotwinpeaks.com/news/mark-frost-david-lynch-tweet-twin-peaks/

Of particular interest is this:

QuoteUPDATE (8:18 PM): In a Facebook comment to Reflections author Brad Dukes, Twin Peaks co-producer and writer Harley Peyton said "you will not get let down again" regarding today's big news and the long history of debunked revival rumors.

There's also an audio clip of Lynch being asked about the possibility of a revival from last month, in which he says:

QuoteThis is a tricky question... I've always said: I love a continuing story. To love a world and be able to go deeper and deeper into that world... so, there's always a possibility, and you'll just have to wait and see.

Bit excited.

Old Nehamkin

That link also points out that 11:30 AM, when Lynch and Frost did their joint-tweet, is the same time that Cooper first enters Twin Peaks in the pilot.

Skip Bittman

I've asked a few folks who might know something about this and they acted INCREDIBLY coy and tee-hee, so it sounds like we might be in for a treat! Cautious expression here.

(I mean, I was also tantalized by the idea of a Lynch-produced Bad Day on the Midway series!)

Small Man Big Horse

Aw, I so want to get excited by the possibility, but as mentioned above, we've been teased and then let down too many times in the past. Still, fingers crossed and all that.

I know someone wanted to do a Twin Peaks Season 3 comic a while back and contacted Lynch for permission, only to get turned down, which was a shame as the artwork shown was fairly interesting. And fuck it, if it was bad (like any future potential new season) it'd be easy to ignore.

Edit: Interesting interview here about that: http://twinpeaksarchive.blogspot.co.uk/2007/07/exclusive-matt-haley-interview.html

Edit 2: That site has a claim that there may be a"Possible Confirmation On Monday" - http://twinpeaksarchive.blogspot.co.uk/ - Dagnammit, despite everything I'm getting my hopes up now. If Lynch dashes them again, I'll be having words with him, I can tell you.

It's such a shame so many of the cast are dead though, and many I can't imagine being replaced well (Jack Nance especially). Then again,
Spoiler alert
Bob/Coop's had nearly twenty five years of fucking about in Twin Peaks,
[close]
so who knows if anyone's left alive!

On the Bob front, I know it's extremely doubtful, but there was one scene in Fargo where Billy Bob Thornton had an evil glint in his eye, and looked surprisingly Bob-esque.

BlodwynPig

If they get Gervais to play an FBI agent in this one (with crappy Netflix American accent), I will go ballistic.

amputeeporn

Ha! Gervias as a Twin Peaks FBI agent who tells it like it is.

'Ow come everyone's wearin' black then? Can this bloke 'ear me? Oi, boss everyone keeps goin' missin' - what's goin' on? Only I arsked old Cooper for a coffee and he gave me a right look.

It's not so strange - when that comic looked like a possibility it was disappointing that he blocked it, but I'd have done the same.  The fact that it was a TV series seems to give a little bit of entitlement to people, like it's not a story in itself, but just a thing that's not currently being used and is lying dormant.  We wouldn't seriously want to read 'Oliver Twist 2:  The Reggae Years' if Charles Dickens wasn't involved.

Actually, yes we would.  Picked a bad example there.  As you were.

Ja'moke

I'm getting ridiculously excited that this could be happening (again), I'm probably just setting myself up for disappointment, but I can't help it.

If it is a third season do people think it should be the same cast (those that are left) or do you think they should have new characters? I hope it would be a mix of both, use the original characters to draw people back in but then set up new stories with newbies.

What recent actors do you think would fit in the Twin Peaks universe?

Yeah, I think a mix of new and old characters would be the only way to really make it work. They'd probably need to bring in a fresh batch of teenagers for a start- that group was such an important component of the original show that you can't really exclude them. It also might be a good idea to introduce a new major character from outside the town (another FBI agent, or a journalist or whatever) to make it easier to reintroduce the world to the viewers. As long as there ends up being plenty of Cooper and we get a resolution to that fucking cliffhanger, I'll be happy.

Off the top of my head, I think Walton Goggins would be pretty great.

Definitely. The teenagers were massively important to the original. I think a journalist investigating the disappearance of Agent Cooper could be a good way into the series.

I like that choice. I was thinking Juno Temple.

Old Nehamkin

Haha, just watched an old on-set interview with Frank Silva and Michael J. Anderson (BOB and the Man from Another Place), and they reveal that they share the same birthday- Halloween! Brilliant.

I'm not that up to date on current young US actors, but I'll throw in Jurnee Smollett from Friday Night Lights, because she's great and she's got the right mix of being likeable and absolutely mesmerising.

Rev

It'd have to be old and new - but I'd prefer the new to be relatively unknown.  It's kind of organic for a town to have refreshed much of its population after 25 years, so you don't need to spend much time explaining absences in the cases of characters who sadly can't return.

On that note, there have been comments elsewhere that Frank Silva's death is a bit different, because surely his character would have to be back.  Even if he was still alive, I really doubt he'd have returned - that character can't age, and re-casting is more sensible than trying to disguise a quarter of a century with make-up.

BlodwynPig

I dread to think who they will bring in, but then again if anyone can make an ubiquitous, poor actor look sinister and otherworldly its Lynch.

BRen

Michael Shannon would be a good fit I reckon, for the show in general, he's got that oddness about him that would fit right into Twin Peaks. Also, go see My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done, great example of one of his weirder roles (and it had Lynch producing).

Maybe he could enlist the services of his pal Russell!

I kid, I kid.

would be a bit funny just for how much anger it would produce, though.

I'm watching Fire Walk With Me The Missing Pieces right now and damn they better bring back David Bowie for this. He fits right in to Lynch's world, and he's surprisingly great in it.

The latest rumour is that Showtime are going to be showing it, but there's based on the weak twitter related (possible) nonsense.

It's hard to say though, we don't know how those from the Black Lodge age, and Cooper had aged visibly 25 years later. Either way, I really want Michael J Anderson back, it'd feel weird without him.

Edit: Though Anderson hasn't aged in those 25 years later scenes, has he, which buggers that idea up. Arse. Still, fuck it, it's Lynch, I've faith in him. If this is actually something that's happening. Fuck, I imagine his life will be in danger from some fans if it doesn't given the online response so far.

Old Nehamkin

Another couple of minor nuggets pointing at a possible Showtime connection:

QuoteAfter Friday's mystery "Twin Tweets" from David Lynch and Mark Frost that seem to imply the return of Twin Peaks in some form or another, it turns out that Mark Frost's most recent follow on Twitter is Showtime's head of PR, Trisha Cardoso. And she follows him back. And David Lynch.

Now, remember the Twin Peaks creators' tweets were published simultaneously at 11:30 AM EST. As pointed out, that's the exact same time Dale Cooper enters Twin Peaks for the very first time, although that would be Pacific (Northwest) Time. EST suggests an NY connection, and guess where Showtime (and their marketing team) is located? Yes, on Broadway in New York City.

Need a stronger argument? Showtime Networks is the subsidiary of CBS Corporation, of which the CBS Home Entertainment division released the Twin Peaks Blu-ray last summer.

Visit http://welcometotwinpeaks.com/news/twin-peaks-showtime/#ixzz3FJq3zWQT

Possibly all just a coincidence (and the NY thing is a bit of a stretch) but hey, obsessing over the meaning of tiny details is what Twin Peaks is all about.

Ja'moke

And now Frost and the Showtime PR person have unfollowed each other. That's definitely suspicious. Or they are intentionally trolling fans.

QuoteTwin Peaks fans' quarter-century wait is over. One of the top cult series of all time is coming back with a new limited series on Showtime from its original creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost. I've learned that the nine-episode series will go into production in 2015 for a premiere in 2016 to mark the 25th anniversary of when the series finished its run on ABC. In a fact that will delight Twin Peaks devotees, Lynch and Frost will write and produce all nine episodes, with Lynch set to direct every episode.

If that's true about Lynch directing every episode, then fucking hell.

jESUS FUCKING CHRIST, I HAVENT BEEN THIS EXCITED IN SO LONG IT ACTUALLY MERITS MY ACCIDENTAL CAPS LOCK.

SOOOOO happy they're picking this up in modern day. I'm excited and I wish I wasn't. Because I can't see this being as good. I hope I'm wrong
