BlodwynPig

There have been some seriously good FACT mixes in the last couple of months (different styles of course).

jobotic

xlr8r put up some good ones too (amongst some dross, to be fair).

I put this up in the techno thread - right up my street.

monkfromhavana

I've been meaning to bump this thread for a while, but always held back from it.

The Ruff Rider EP is great, 4 totally infectious tracks, almost perfectly made '92 hardcore.

I had this on on the way home from work

Tracks I would very happily never listen to again

Liquid - Sweet Harmony
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW4YfSxBeAw

DJ Edge - Compnded
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEE_0b0Mh6c

2 Bad Mice - Bombscare
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQVv40_9NSo

SL2 - On A Bloody Ragga Tip
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXCN1DhHTZA

Haha, you can add 'Awesome 3 - Don't Go' to that list

https://youtu.be/-4HhUSQA_7s

Regarding SL2, I love Slipmatt, think he's a fantastic DJ, producer, label owner. Known as the 'Godfather' of this, that and the other, has a weekly podcast which is essential listening, still at the top of his game after 25-30 years, very versatile when it comes to different styles of rave music. Yet despite all this his most well known tune is On a Ragga Tip which, like you, I wouldn't complain if I never heard it again!

monkfromhavana

I could add it, but I still like Don't Go, even though it's overplayed.

Slipmatt's a professional, and even on the rave rumour mill, there's never been any suggestion whatsoever that he's ripped anyone off, or been underhand in any way. That's pretty rare.

Progression - On A Rubbish Tip

Jack Horner & DJ Pulse - Summer In The South
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgCCo3fRFyk

The chimey, 80s-style breakdown on this is really bugging me, sounds like it's sampled off something.

BlodwynPig

yes, quite familiar - also seemingly a proto-progressive DnB track

A couple from Nookie's short lived but great Daddy Armshouse label

2 Boasters - Granny (Sammy Sam E'd Up In Hoddesdon Mix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skCCRKKAV7I

Cloud Nine - Return Of The Donut (Original Mix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8WB0sc4tRc

EDIT: sod it, another belter from the same label

Nookie (Windy Milla) - Ruff And Massive

Chill was a very underrated label I think, no-one ever really seems to mention it, other than the N.R.G. stuff.

Black Ash - Timestretch
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvEHDWar0m8

Sonic Food - People Of Rhythm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK4XOEmThYE

MI7 - Rockin Down The House

Here's one that I've only ever heard on one tape, but I really like it

System Exclusive - Parallel Dimension

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pJyuUtlPS4

Hank Venture

Heard this in a Dr. Rubinstein Boiler Room set. Can almost feel my pupils dilating just by listening to it. My neighbours will be hearing a lot of this the coming week.

The Adventist - DSL Journey:

Absolutely incredible remix from 1991. The definitive version.

Human Resource - Dominator (Frank De Wulf Remix #1)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jurPD0JXIak

Another R & S classic. I knew Rat-Trap off this EP, but had never listened to any of the other tunes from it before. Made by legendary German producer, The Mover (one of the pioneers of gabba, but the industrial, emotionless, cold-as-ice style, not the Dutch party style), it's kind of a mix of techno and hardcore, but with a funkiness.

Spiritual Combat - Raw Basics - [R & S Records] - 1992

Ooh I like that, never heard it before.

Here's another one I'd never heard of until Slipmatt played it on a recent podcast. Absolutely love the spine-tingling intro

Nitrous - Illusions

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8h_JyKJLSw

monkfromhavana

Like that one!

Here's a great tune by Morphosis (note that Discogs is wrong, it's a different Morphosis from the one who did the excellent Latin In Dub Major that features earlier in this thread).

Released two EPs on Aztec Records, and every tune is excellent, made in that authentic "throw as many ideas into the tune as you can", which is what is so great about these old skool tunes. All these Drum 'n' Bass producers who have, at best, one idea in a track.....

Morphosis - Symphony - [Aztec Records]

That's fantastic, so much going on in 6 and a half minutes!

Currently going through the laborious process of ripping my tape collection and am hearing loads of tunes I've not heard for years. Here's a couple of examples, slightly more commercial than most of the tunes in this thread but still great.

I.C.P. - Free & Equal (Leftfield Remix)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sc1wxrP-85Q

Last Rhythm - Last Rhythm (Original Club Mix)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY9k3B1PG20

monkfromhavana

I'm trying to think of some good commercial tunes, as I'm partial to a bit of cheese.

Ella Lund - Let's Talk About You And Me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsMj5NDipTQ

Korda - Move Your Body (To The Sound)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_uonVmirKc

Love Revolution - Give It To Me Baby
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIxWWZh4RGE

That Korda tune is a classic. It's in Easygroove's "fluffy house" set from Fantazia One Step Beyond, which I absolutely love.

Easygroove - House set - Fantazia One Step Beyond 25/07/1992

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYrUse73LpE

Easygroove once again showing his versatility. I'm sure we've mentioned it in here before but whether he was playing hardcore, house, ragga jungle or gabba (sometimes all in the same set) his selection was always (well, usually) spot on.

The Korda track was on Palmeres label which had the awesome Axe Corner - Tortuga

It's a great tune, and was later sampled / replayed by The Prodigy for Wind It Up

Francesco Zappala - No Way Out (I'm a sucker for this tune from 1.36 onwards - another Easygroove fave, played at Fantazia - Second Sight)

A bit of Artcore-style smoothness from one of my musical heroes, Jack Smooth, alongside Basement Phil. For me, Basement Records were the kings of this style circa '94. Lovely stuff.

Jack 'n' Phil - Don't Beg 4 Love (Drum & Bass Workout) - [Basement Records]

steveh

That's great. Basement are a label I wish there was a best-of comp for.

monkfromhavana

If you buy any of the Jungle Tekno series of albums from about volume 5 onwards there's always a decent chunk of Basement Records / Precious Materials / Mystic Moods stuff on.

The stuff on Basement around 1994 was amazing, proper music with emotion and lovely lovely pads and strings. Unfortunately that type of music was soon to become very wishy-washy with seemingly any old floaty noise stuck on an amen.

monkfromhavana

A just discovered (by me anyway) classic slice of jungle from 1994, using the vocals from Teddy Riley & Tammy Lucas - Is It Good For You.

It's a white label, but apparently the artist name is Cookie, which is pretty shit. The tune's very basic, but with the pads (or strings, despite listening to this music for nearly 30 years I'm still crap with the lingo) and the vocals are great together. Given the sampling time available it wouldn't surprise me if they just played the accapella live over the tune and recorded it like that (like Steve Gurley did with Finest Illusion). The vocal bit is the best, so if you want just skip to 2m 30s

Cookie - Good For You - [Limited Vinyl]

It's kind of in the same vein as this, with Toni Braxton instead of Tammy Lucas which is also nice

Dem 2 Ruff - Nice Tune

I like that Dem 2 Ruff tune, an old Mickey Finn favourite.

On an atmospheric jungle tip, I recently rediscovered this one. I think it's such a beautiful piece of music, particularly from 2m20 onwards.

I knew Phil from '91 when Basement was opposite the train station in Reading, friends with Kev Bird back then too (super nice chap)

I had two releases on Precious Materials - shame it all went tits up.
