A fucking CD just blew up

In my DVD drive! Fucking hell.

So I turn on my PC and about a second later *ALMIGHTY BANG* - OH SHI - dash for the plug. Not good. I thought the computer was completely fucked, but as I picked it up to put it on the desk and open it, I heard 'stuff' rattling around inside, which turned out to be the remnants of a cd. Luckily, the drive was self contained, so I just pulled it out. I can't believe how loud it was.

So, there's a karma prize for anyone who can guess the game that got sacrificed. (I suppose if you guess correctly, you could carry the game on and smash up another CD)

syntaxerror

Correct. Go and smash up a CD.

Ah beat me to it! I'm gonna smash up a DVD anyway.

Addendum: Guess the game!

Big Jack McBastard

What make is your (now presumably ex-)drive syntax?

Glebe

That's the trouble with Spinal Tap drummers' solo albums.

Um, its it was in a packard bell pc, so presumably built by in-house manufacturers, i have no idea. Its completely fucked now anyway.

Did you actually smash that up??

Oh, and i have no idea what it is.

Yep! It was Skate. The classic skateboarding game that isn't Tony Hawk.
I've since learnt that smashing Xbox CDs is insanely hard compared to normal CDs. It's covered in a thin plastic substance and is almost the same consistency as rubber.

syntaxerror

Haha, try blowing one up next time :)

How on earth does that happen?!

I've never had one blow up like that but one did crack once.

And that was my contribution to the thread.

Either there was small manufacturing flaw in the disc that became more pronounced over time or his old Packard Bell has managed to achieve sentience, seen the state of the world it's living in and decided to try end it all by constructing and then detonating a small rudimentary IED in it's own drive bay.

Cerys

This is what comes of Eidos's decision to use semtex instead of polycarbonate.

What kind of "manufacturing flaw" of a spinny flat disc might cause explosion?  Can it happen with frisbees too?  Mine is quite old and scuffed now and I am growing concerned.

To be on the safe side, maybe don't fling it when there are dogs around.

You're assuming I wouldn't want to explode any dogs.
