Bean Is A Carrot

Currently available in the Music Videos section of iTunes is a new ABBA video called "The Last Video" featuring Rik Mayall as a record company A&R man in early 70s Stockholm. The "plot" is that a man brings in a puppet band (ABBA) who sing various songs (ABBA songs) and then the A&R man turns them down. The next group in before Rik's A&R man is the real ABBA. Also in the video are the members of ABBA and Cher playing various people hanging around the record company. Rik Mayall's character is the sort of character he usually plays (slimey, stupid pulled-up trousers, etc). The main question is WHY? Why an ABBA video when there doesn't seem to be a new album available? Or maybe the question is why not?

It's something to do with the Eurovision Song Contest -

This from IMDB
QuoteIn 1974 Swedish super group ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with Waterloo, thus launching an international pop career as one of the biggest groups ever with over 365 million records sold. The Eurovision Song Contest wanted to celebrate ABBA's 30th anniversary with a performance by the group, but since the group declined all offers to reunite since 1982 they had to come up with another idea. This video is short, but funny and all four former ABBA members do appear in this video, although not together, but separately. Cher a very short *blink and you will miss it* cameo as well. The puppets in this video were created by the Jim Henson company, the people behind the Muppets.

Also, Rik Mayall was in "An American Werewolf in London" as Second Chess Player!

This amusingly led to wags in early-80s cinemas shouting "Fascist!" whenever he was onscreen!
