Please use Spoiler tags for anything beyond series 3 in this discussion.

Okay the trailer is coming out on Sunday 12th Jan.

Until then we have sneak preview images and mini-clips via https://twitter.com/GameOfThrones

Spoiler alert

Looks like the Red Viper vs The mountain battle will be a good one (One of my favourite moments in the books, I hope they keep it exactly as it was depicted.)

Spoiler alert
Plus we have a quick glimpse of the battle at the wall

Spoiler alert
Tyrion in chains
[close]

I'm excited.

BritishHobo

I've heard they're going to dramatically shake things up this season by adding a new character.

mothman

Spoilers, BH!

Spoiler alert
There's a rumour they may seek to challenge the preconceptions of a target audience brought up on homogenous uncontroversial US TV fare, by including unprecedented scenes of sex and violence in the narrative.

ZoyzaSorris

Famous Mortimer

Scat porn is going to be the central thing of season 4, I hear.

DJ Solid Snail

Nice to hear Dany already sounding like a megalomaniacal nutter. I sort of felt like the TV writers had been putting off how batshit crazy she actually is.

1:01 - Looks like Bran's off to
Spoiler alert
meet the three-eyed crow, meaning they've exhausted his book plot already. Hmm.
[close]

1:24 - What's Theon doing out and about? And not looking very Reek-y. Just the briefest stint in a dungeon in the end, was it?

1:29 - Really looking forward to this scene.
Spoiler alert
"Where's the gold?!"
[close]
and all that. One of Arya's best bits.

The Red Viper looks and sounds a bit bland from those snippets, but I'll reserve judgement.

Plus, even more scenes of people staring longingly at the Iron Throne? It's not subtle, telly people!

Otherwise, looks like it's shaping up to be a decent season. Need to rack my brains to remember which bits from book three they've got left, and what corresponds with what, and there were a few scenes there I couldn't quite place. Like
Spoiler alert
Chett - was it? - sacrificing a baby, Craster-style? Whassthatabahhht?
[close]
Or
Spoiler alert
Asha (sorry, Yarra) on a boat? Why would they be showing us that, unless they've given her something to do this season?
[close]
And
Spoiler alert
Stannis on a boat? They feel they need to choreograph every single moment of his journey up to the point of his HUGE SURPRISE ATTACK on the wildlings? Good plotting, guys... I suppose it's more to do with the fact that they're paying those actors a salary, so they need to get regular scenes out of them, but still, come on.

I'm excited...

Thursday

I just want to get to the bit where Arya fucks everyone's shit up and takes over. If that's not what everything is leading to I'm going to be disappointed. But I bet she dies soon instead or something.

kidsick5000

The trailer's basically a contest to see who can do the fruitiest posh accent

Thursday

Anyway it's good that it's finally out there and we're past the "Announcement that the trailer for the pre-trailer that announces when the main trailer will be" bullshit.

Spoiler alert
Doesn't Ramsay send Theon out to deal with the stragglers of the Iron Born that remain in Moat Cailin. He offers them a surrender, by sending Theon, but later has them all flayed alive

Spoiler alert
Oh, does he? I must've forgotten about that. Still, he looks absolutely fine! Also, must've been off-screen though, eh? The book portrayal is really good at getting you to empathise with his character, even after all his shithead behaviour. The shock of his reappearance after a two-book absence as a withered toothless white-haired Gollum-like figure is one of the series' best twists, and it looks like the telly show's not going to bother with any of that. Which sort of ruins his arc a bit. I suspect most people will continue to hate him if he keeps sticking around.

Xindioka

I'm really looking forward to this. I only got into it a few months ago and whizzed through the first three seasons.

New seasons of Game of Thrones and Orphan Black coming up = wonderfulness.

Morrison Lard

I just hope Natalie Dormer continues whacking em out.

WesterlyWinds

I can't wait until the aliens land

Thursday

Yeah but the Robots are better.

What I don't get though, is why don't they just use "knights of the round" on Joffrey?

WesterlyWinds

DJ Solid Snail

Also, the bit at 0:29 seems to be, as far as I can tell,
Spoiler alert
the after dark street murders in Meereen, which don't occur until ADWD. If they intend on speeding thru Dany's arc this quick, then they're going to have to do some serious padding in the next couple seasons. Bit worried that they've already finished Bran AND Dany's stories.
[close]
Also, isn't that King's Landing the dragon's flying over in the opening? That's...weird.

Mister Six

I'll bet that's one of Bran's prophetic dreams.

It's just less of a surprise because they've kept Alfie Allen in the show because he's a major actor and don't want to lose him for two seasons. Just my hunch of course. But I think we're only just seeing the beginning of his new storyline.

Spoiler alert
In the books, the Bolton's keep him as a kind of pet after he proves himself 'loyal'.

BritishHobo

To celebrate its return, I'll repost this thing, where some bloke tasked his dad with trying to remember the names of the characters based solely on their pictures: http://imgur.com/a/11bIw Never gets old, for me.

BritishHobo

So lovely Iwan Rheon is on one of the commentaries on the season 3 release, but there's no Alfie Allen, which seems like a missed opportunity. And a shame, as his commentary with Gemma Whelan on the season 2 set was brilliant stuff. But, despite everyone else being paired up with actors they share the most screen time with (and one member of the production team), Rheon's just been shoved on the end with Emilia Clarke and Iain Glen.

Still. Iwan Rheon.
I've gone and forgotten where his storyline was left last year

Mister Six

He'd just cut off Theon's cock, and was about to be on the receiving end of a rescue party of the Iron Island's Hardest Bastard Squad, led by Theon's sister.

NoSleep

Seen canoeing to rescue Theon in the trailer.

Spoiler alert
The murders start early in Book 5, which is happening at the same time as early Book 4, so it's potentially only a few tv hours ahead of the book depending on where that scene sits in season 4. I imagine they'll do Books 4&5 together over seasons 5 and 6 (and 7?) rather than follow the time-skipping narrative of the books.

I've forgotten almost everything about where each character was at.

Apart from a few people who
Spoiler alert
got slaughtered at that wedding, and I still can't really remember who they were

Paaaaul

I wouldn't worry. It's not like they'll introduce a whole load of new characters in this season or anything. [scared eye-rolling smiley]

NoSleep

I take it you've all read to the end of Book 3?

I don't think so - I think this thread should be spoiler free in terms of anything that hasn't been in the show yet. There was a Ice and Fire thread somewhere for discussion of the books.
