The utterly fantastic John Sparkes has recorded some new Siadwell monologues for Radio Wales. I've not listened to episode 2 but I caught episode 1 last week and it was cracking.

Here you go - http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/siadwel

Cheers!  This had completely passed me by, and dagnabbit I missed the first one with school bully Gary Price and can't find it cached anywhere.

It's Siadwel with just the one 'l', by the way, in case it comes up in anyone's Celtic Studies finals.

remedial_gash

I don't suppose that you've got episode one like?

Ep 2 was super fun.

NattyDread

Episode 3 is up and it's great stuff. Missed the first 2...bugger.

bda12

I do have episode 1 actually. What's the best way to share it?

And I'm missing episode 2 if someone can supply that.

DeGrise

Cheers BDA12. That's great news.

wetdogsmell

I've missed episodes 1 and 3, if anyone can provide a link I'd be extremely grateful. This series is wonderful.

Nice one.  I met this character on a bargain basemend Naked Video DVD and I'm now delighted to find out that the character exists elsewhere too.  Some of the sketches in the show parody news broadcasts and stories in a way that would have slipped right in to The Day Today or Brass Eye, and these Shiadwel sections I always thought could have slipped right into Blue Jam.  A wee cheeky grin of delight that the different styles of Chris Morris had come together somewhere else and before his time.

The joke with the news graphics at the start of episode 1 is a cracker, and Siadwel's in it, and then there's Rab C. Nesbitt's first telly appearance.  Cracking stuff.

Ah, sorry I missed earlier episodes – I adore the character and Sparkes.

Siadwel is also in the C4 sketch show, Absolutely. It's available on 4OD for free but the complete show on DVD is a bargain.

Also, thanks for the link – it's been a while since I've watched Naked Video and forgot Siadwel was in it!

I don't think Siadwell's in Absolutely, is he? At least, I don't recall him appearing.

If I remember correctly, in Absolutely, Sparkes
Spoiler alert
killed Siadwell off

which is one reason I so pleased to hear the news.

Serge

Having watched them all again within the last couple of years, I'm pretty sure that Siadwel isn't in 'Absolutely' at all - maybe it was in the later Barry Welsh shows? (I've never seen them.)

Jamesieab

I confused Denzil with Siadwel, pretty sure it was just Denzil in Absolutely.

Well, who are you going to believe - me or your own eyes?

Serge

You wouldn't believe the stuff my eyes think they've seen.

Vodka Margarine

Siadwel was in Naked Video, Denzil in Absolutely.

DrunkCountry

Could someone possibly share eps 1 & 2? Missed them. Many thanks.

BeardFaceMan

Someone must have grabbed episode 1. Pretty please? OK, how about I sweeten the pot with a link to episodes 2, 3 and 4? No? OK, well how about some mp3s I made of Siadwell from the Naked Video days? Still no? Bugger, cos that's all I've got.

Go on, give us episode 1, you know you want to.

Mornington Oblong

As I'm in a good(ish) mood tonight, here you go for a limited time only.

No need to thank me, just send unmarked banknotes, gold teeth, first born child or the whereabouts of David Mitchell's secret cockney working class family to:

Jesus, I always thought it was Shadwell!

Thank you for posting these, I only found about these Monday night and it's on Ep 4 and nearly over already.

What with both Sparkes and Limmy, the English get a raw deal about 'regional' British comedy being on the proper channels wot come into my front room or raydigo.

Guy

I'd like to echo the thanks to BeardFaceMan and Mornington Oblong, will be listening to these shortly.

Belvedore Jaffa

I too was looking for the first episode of the recentish Siadwel podcast, and my search for it led me here.
(I used to post here a bit, around 401 years ago... possibly under a different name.)

But Shadders ep1 ain't here no mores, huh.

... but I did find it, and the other eps, at double-better quality than the podcasts were (128kb vs 64kb). So if anyone a) wants them; and b) doesn't know how to use Google, here's links:

Mr Banlon

Not Siadwell, but John Sparkes as Frank Hovis doing a rendition of Ken Dodd's 'Tears' on Absolutely is one of my favourite bits of early 90s comedy.

Isn't that John Sparkes as Gwyn on Barry Welsh is Coming?

It's both, but I don't know which version came first.  I prefer the Gwyn version - you've got the compulsive whistling and insane twitches in between the singing.  Gwyn does an excellent version of Close To You as well.

Oh, is the Frank Hovis version during the Stoneybridge Talent Show?

Performing Gwyn must be physically exhausting.

Mr Banlon

Yes, the Frank Hovis version is performed at the Stoneybridge do.

can someone make this happen in my ears please, I am very old and can not see, can you make it come into my ears
