Bugger, can't believe I missed this. Did anyone capture it?

As an aside, here's Barry Welsh Is Coming:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6Y37AkpzLU

I've got another Barry Welsh VHS at home somewhere, but no one else has had the common decency to transfer and upload it for me like the person has for this one.

BeardFaceMan

I've got a bit of Barry Welsh knocking about the place, as it goes. Never thought of uploading them to youtube. I have -

Barry Welsh Has An Election
Barry Welsh Is Going - This was the final 3 shows he did, I have the last 2 of them.

And not strictly Barry Welsh but I've also got Hugh Pugh At The Fishguard Film Festival and Hugh Pugh's Xmas Cracker. Oh and few episodes of Pub Quiz too. I'll try uploading some if no one else has first, and more importantly, if I remember to.

I had the very great privilege to shake hands with John Sparkes, encountering him in Glasgow on Tuesday night and tell him he's fucking amazing. I received a bashful "oh, nonsense. Thanks"
I didn't use the word with him but I'll use it here: Genius.

The reason that Sparkes was in Glasgow was because on Wednesday night there was a recording of two episodes of a new 4 part radio series of Absolutely.
This follows on from the 20th anniversay reunion, two years ago, which appeared as part of Sketchorama series on radio 4.
Similar to that reunion, Jack Doherty is not taking part.
Very enjoyable recording and Sparkes was in particular splendid form, and there are new Frank Hovis & Denzil sketches in both episodes.
According to producer the first of these to air will be on Sunday 6 September, at the same time the next two episodes are being recorded

BeardFaceMan

Fantastic news, but a downer to see Jack Docherty not involved because that, again, means no new Mr Don & Mr George sketches. How come he's not involved? Wasn't he busy last time working on a TV version of Stop/Start, is he still doing that?

BeardFaceMan

Oh, and while I'm here, enjoy Barry Welsh Has An Election  - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R42nP0W14lo

Been trying to use get_iplayer to get the second series for the past hour. Having no luck. they expire in a few hours....

Met John on Wednesday night in Glasgow at the recording of the new Absolutely radio show. Lovely bloke, had a great chat. If anyone could get the second series of Siadwell it would be great. for anyone interested i run an Absolutely twitter account @absolutelyfans. Have a few pics up from Wednesday.

John Sparkes was always my favourite performer within the Absolutely team. With Jack Docherty pulling a Cleese and absenting himself for these new episodes, it made me realise just how much pressure rests on the shoulders of Sparkes and Morwena Banks.

Docherty was the backbone of several of the more enduring Absolutely sketches - Don and George, The Nice Family, The Wells', McGlashan - with Sparkes and Banks creating their own rosta of memorable characters, many of which were capable of existing independently from the rest of the cast.

The one-off special was great, so it'll be interesting to see how they structure the longer run of new episodes, when so many key characters are necessarily out of bounds. Will they have more one-off sketches, new characters or rely more on second/third tier characters, such as Kennedy's Commissaire?

There was new characters and even The Nice Family made an appearance with reference to Dochertys absence. It was brilliantly funny and they more than proved that they can perform with Docherty or his characters. Would still have liked to have seen him there though....

As promised, here's a megapost of Sparkes loveliness.

First up, 2 episodes of Barry Welsh is Going -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc0b1-Cx3J4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw8pPBzAnwM

Then 2 Hugh Pugh specials -

Hugh Pugh At The Fishguard Film Festival - https://youtu.be/jeks7gUuM5o
Hugh Pugh's Xmas Cracker - https://youtu.be/ig0LpGUlolU

And I've got 4 eps of Pub Quiz to be uploaded too. Oh, and I'll just leave this here too, it's only all 4 eps from series 2 of the Siadwel radio show -

https://www.sendspace.com/file/1l4x1t

Now if only i could find those 3 episodes of Bodgers, Banks & Sparkes that I'm missing...

Oops! Wrong Planet

Brilliant! Thanks, Beardy.  There's no trace of Jeff Global's Global Probe unfortunately, although some of it was streaming on the ITV Wales site a few years ago.

I remember watching him in one of his straight presenting roles - Ghost Story or Great Pubs - when he was interviewing a bloke who mentioned the 19th century Welsh sailor Hugh Pugh. Cue cutaway to Sparkes pulling a silly surprised face as an in-joke to his fans.

BeardFaceMan

I'd be interested in seeing some Jeff Global's Global Probe again because my memory of it at the time is that the show was as awful as it's title, I didn't watch much of it at all.

Malcy

Thank you, BeardFaceMan. when i figure out this karma i'll give you some. Much appreciated.

BeardFaceMan

And last but not least, 4 eps of Pub Quiz with Frank Hovis. I think Gwyn is in them too, not watched them for a while. Haven't got many of these as BBC2 Wales was digital only at the time and I didn't have it, I don't think a lot of people did so I expect eps of Pub Quiz to be quite rare, sadly.

Forgot I had this so I may as well upload while I'm on a roll -

Not Tonight with John Sergent - http://youtu.be/s1Tmr8woeK8

Loads of people you recognize are in it and Sparkes turns up as Barry Welsh for some local reporting.

Malcy

Great job on all these. Saved them to my iPad. Long journey later in the week so these will help! Upload anything you have!

McFlymo

Loving Series 2 of Siadwell on the iplayer. I'll have to re-read this thread for links to the others. (thanks uploaders!)

I was convinced this was a character from Absolutely too, but I guess I was mixing up Frank Hovis with Denzil.

Amazing, thanks for doing that.

Malcy

Series 3 of Siadwell has been confirmed and will be on BBC Radio 4 next year. Hopefully this means Absolutely will get another series as well.

BeardFaceMan

Did anyone manage to capture series 3 of Siadwel? I completely bloody missed it.

Yes, Twed on this forum very brilliantly uploaded them for me. I just found a link but it has expired. Might be worth giving Twed a shout as i have no way of uploading them at the moment.

Did you ever find the episodes of Bodgers, Banks & Sparkes you were missing? I've never heard any of them.

Malcy

Absolutely's Moray Hunter has a comedy pilot on Radio 4 today at 3.30 starring Angus Deayton, Bennett Arron & Alistair Mackenzie.

Not sure, probably from someone on here, back in the Soulseek days.

Sunny2907

Has anyone got a link to Siadwell where he went to a party as a smell ?
