Shoulders?-Stomach!

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Ooh, that one passed me by - or dissolved from my brain. Thank you.

rjd2

Surprisingly decent effort from the West Indies to save this test, props indeed.

Enjoyable first day in the England test, Pakistan will be happy enough, but fancy England here especially if Pakistan have to chase anything over 200 in the fourth innings.

monolith

Aye, should at least be a more interesting test than the second where England had Pakistan by the balls from lunch on day one until the end of the test.

Still fancy us to knock Pakistan over for 200-250, Younis seems to be in a serious lack of form and it feels a bit like Misbah (42 year old Misbah) or bust at the moment for them despite a bit of tail wagging after their specialist batsmen have failed.

Younis will probably hit 150 tomorrow now of course!

I think Pakistan will need to score 350+, which isn't inconceivable, to be in with a chance as if the scores are around even after the 1st innings then batting second might be their downfall.

As always of course it's difficult to tell whether 297 is a good score for this pitch until both teams have batted. Looks like being similar overcast conditions tomorrow so if Pakistan go against my expectations and score 400+ then it's a better pitch than we've made it out to be.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

It's a nothing score but at least it's defendable if we bowl tight. Finn really needs to show up and not just cunt half trackers down the wicket.

Even with Younus looking dodgy and Azhar out of form, Misbah, Shafiq and Sarfraz can do some damage- Hafeez too if he gets away. I can see them posting a score of 300 odd. Nevertheless it's our job to apply the pressure.

Pleased for Ballance though how many scores of 70odd is that now? Cash in ffs.

monolith

Fielding is really costing us here, on another day we could have them 5 down. The ball is still swinging so it's not like conditions are suddenly ideal for batting, credit to Pakistan though.

rjd2

Horror run out, but bar that Pakistan very good. They won't do it, but Aslam/Azhar should be the opening partnership, Hafeez while a boss in Asia is a waste of time overseas. It also would mean they could get in another young batsman into the middle order and let learn test cricket while Misbah and Younis are still about rather than throwing him in the deep end once they retire.

England have not bowled well sadly.

rjd2

Pakistan dominated but at least they did not get  away and with that horror lower order and  Younis looking shaky, England still in this, although obviously need to improve hugely to win. Crucial first session etc.

monolith

Yeah England desperately need a good session here or they might be praying for rain.

If Pakistan had a somewhat acceptable lower order they could have been 150 or so clear and we may have a totally different scenario tonight, however as they don't, its advantage England. I'd expect another 250 or so runs for England minimum and Pakistan will struggle to chase that with Younis, Hafeez and the dire lower order.

Sohail looks fucked also, poor fucker not built for test cricket it seems, with him trundling and no fifth bowler, could be a really tough day tomorrow for Pakistan if they don't get some breakthroughs early, if not centuries here for Cook and Hales at their mercy.

Australia collapsing v spin will always be awesome. Pleased for Herath, one of the good guys.

3 test series too, possibility they get white washed (barring rain this one is over).

times sure are different.

props to starc though who did everything he could and fernando who has shown up, bowled two overs that went for 16 and faced one ball. a rare occassion where you can genuinely look at a sportsman competing at the highest level and say "I could do that."

monolith

Immense fightback after lunch from England today. Pakistan had the match at their mercy but for England to have a lead with no wickets down at stumps is remarkable and didn't look on when they went in for lunch. Chef would have bitten your hand off if you'd offered him that at the start of the day, even more so at lunch where it looked like we could be well behind with maybe a couple of wickets down at close of play.

Still all to play for though and this match has ebbed and flowed so much that whilst England are now favourites I certainly don't feel comfortable yet.

Haven't checked the forecast but apparently the draw is odds on now so I'm assuming there might be some rain about.

rjd2

Can we name a more crap number 1 than Australia in the test rankings?

Strong at home, but truly awful in Asia.

I like Lehmann and I do feel he must be fuming as he was good against spin, but their seems to be an over aggression in this side which means they can't adopt outside their comfort zone. Some of the shots they got out to was comical. Also from what I read and see, the pitches in the Shield are roads galore which clearly does not help things.

They will still probably trash Pakistan and South Africa over Winter through.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Will Cook be aggressive and declare?

Pakistan need a reason to attack for us to win this. Pitch is benign and someone like Azhar could block itbout.

Shay Chaise

Been a smashing day's cricket, this. Moeen started it with intent hammering Yasir for a couple of big sixes and after a tentative first session, we've looked dangerous once we decided to try and win the bloody Test match. Looking like we actually will, too! Pakistan crumbling here, Finn in a rhythm. I think well deserved ultimately for the way we went about our second innings, everyone made a contribution but Bairstow really gave us a safe opportunity to try and win the match.

monolith

Really good comeback by England, particularly after lunch on day 3, looked like it could slip away from us at that point and Pakistan could have kept their foot on our throat but we didn't let them and came back brilliantly.

Definitely one of the top 5 test comebacks I've seen by England in my lifetime, particularly as the series was at crunch time.

A win would be nice but I'd take a draw at the Oval.

Mr Eggs

Superb entertainment on TMS for this test. Daniel Norcross with his 80's D.J. voice and a bloke dressed as lobster being chased by blokes dressed as chefs.
Blowers blindness adding further levels of suspense to wickets whilst we wait for some cunt to tell us what actually happened.
Boycott waving his money clip about like a gangsta.
No Jonathon Agnew and his lazy old shite.

PEAK TMS.

England bowled very well today and really dominated the last 3 days after a pretty crap start to the test.

Pakistan need to bin Hafeez, his shot today was a shambles as his whole tour has been, also crap in the field and banned from bowling. Ideally it should be Azhar and Sami opening.

Younis also looks doomed in these conditions, good series overall, looking forward to the last test.

Ian Drunken Smurf

The TMS Appreciation Group on Facebook seems to be full of Pakistani fans claiming that Jimmy, Broad etc were caught ball tampering - seems to be the trolling topic of the week (thank god it is not about KP for a change). I've dismissed it all as I find it hard to believe that the umpires wouldn't notice the deterioration of the ball. Has there been any claim of it occurring in a credible news source?

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Nope.

Pakistan's fans have long had a stock of delusional paranoid hypocrites, while Facebook has a knack of deselecting the rational from any debate.

A journalist claimed ball tampering when the fourth test was on, looks like he was merely shining the ball for me.

Ball tampering is a weird one, clearly wrong, but everyone does it, so hard to get that worked up about it anyhow.

With all the left arm seamers it seems bizarre why Pakistan can't summon up a off spinner, even in the part-time Moeen Ali mould. Yasir Shah has looked pretty ordinary post-Lords, but I imagine if he had a little help he'd be able to be more aggressive and less containing.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Hafeez's absence as a bowler has oddly been one of the key factors in England's current lead. The four man attack has had no able support from anywhere. Hafeez would usually get through 10-15 overs at a low run rate in a normal innings.

Ali has gone from the world's biggest fucking dickhead to my hero. I look forward to him returning to dickhead status shortly. Anyway, we are still playing an all-rounder in place of a proper spinner. Generous as it is giving Ali a test career, I don't really see the point. We're hiding him in the field.

This has been such a fun series - just like our series with New Zealand the other year. Terrific cricket and competitive test matches. Prepare more wickets like England's!

mikeyg27

One of life's little joys is watching someone reach their century off a six.

monolith

Yeah another great day of cricket, this has been a really good series, feels like every day apart from the 2nd test has been very competitive and keenly fought. England on top today but not by much and it still feels difficult to call which way this one will go at this point. Tomorrow will be key, I fancy Pakistan to fight back and get at least 300 as batting conditions should be better tomorrow with less cloud cover but you never know with their batting.

We've definitely not batted them out of it though so all to play for and hopefully another cracking 4 days coming up.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

That wicket at the end was a little steal. I thought it was even to be honest but that just nudges us ahead, even if it's just a mental advantage at the moment. Pakistan now have the pressure of knowing we can come back even if they score 400 to win.

In many ways it was a pretty shit performance by England - another series where we are essentially two batsmen down. The ball barely moved off the straight but a bit of bounce and pace is all it took - good to see the real Wahab finally and Sohail who seems to have more than Rahat Ali in my opinion.

I hope Finn could charge in and extract something off this wicket, but you never know with him.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Throw those drops in and a great batting day today and all of a sudden looks a bit like day 4 and 5 might be difficult for us.

Well on top so soon after lunch.
