A Twilight Zone radio drama. The Howling Man, if you're interested. A pretty good series, but there is a veneer of amateurism about it, despite it being a professionally produced series.

It makes me extremely thankful for the BBC radio drama department.

5am and Googling the 25 most awesome saxophone songs of all time lead me to find.

Tim Cappello "I Still Believe"

Lots of organ-led soul-jazz, from Brother Jack McDuff and Johnny 'Hammond' Smith, to Baby Face Willette.

And Bitch Magnet.

Currently 5 hours into Angelo Badalamenti's Twin Peaks Archive and enjoying it hugely. Wonderful background music for being creative to.

Hank Venture

Going through Aphex Twin's back catalogue once and for all, on the back off Syro.

Waiting for this beauty to arrive. Because there's nothing better than 1966 Coltrane, unless it's blasting it out at 3am!

The new Plaids album is absolutely mint. Proper urgent Embrace/Rites of Spring/Fugazi-esque punk rock, ahhhh.

Pay what you want download too :)

Been listening a lot to Le Tigre's This Island after their version of I'm So Excited came on in a bar and the place went nuts.[nb]I went nuts.[/nb] The album's great and mixes post punk and dance with Kathleen Hanna's frantic delivery. Similar in some respects to LCD Soundsystem.

Had a quick listen through some of Le Tigre's earlier stuff which didn't have as much of the electronic elements I was looking for so I listened to MEN which is pretty much the This Island line up minus Kathleen Hanna. Their first album Talk About Body is similar to This Island and is brilliant despite missing Kathleen Hanna's unmatched delivery. It also contains Credit Card Babies which you should listen to at the first opportunity.

Their second album, Labor goes full on electronic. The second track All the Way Through is lifted right out the 90s dance song book and it's shit hot. Then there's Semenya and Let Them Out to pick a couple more highlights.[nb]Can someone please listen to Let Me Out and tell me what the bit at 2:18+ is the same as because I've heard it before and I don't know where.[/nb] If you like Robyn or Pet Shop Boys (as well you should) you should listen to this album.

Fuck I wish Julie Ruin hadn't cancelled her Glasgow show because of her stupid lyme disease.

I'm putting together a short playlist of my favourite album tracks of 2014 for a friend. It's a little lacking in variety, mostly consists of electronic.
Suggestions?

While investigating the phenomenon of Shepard tones, I discovered this really rather excellent track:

Coleco - Shepard Tones

Noodle Lizard

The new Godflesh.  It's proper bantz!

That drum sound is fucking amazing.  Especially on Shut Me Down.

Norman Records have just put the new Dean Blunt album up for pre-order. Really looking forward to this, and not just because he samples The motherfucking Pastels on one of the tracks. Anyway, I've listened to this (a track called 50 Cent) a few times already today; DB's vocals really sound like Bill Callahan or David Berman.

Naughty KLF CD

The next one in the series, "This Is Not What Chill Out Is About", is every bit as good as that HG. Both of them make for very lovely listening.

He really, really sounds like Bill Callahan on this track.

Looking forward to the new album, he seems to be very prolific in his output and there's rumours of more Hype Williams material on the horizon. Incidentally I saw him walking around a supermarket in Stamford Hill a few months ago. I considered going up to him and saying hello but he looked stoned out his box, and having gone supermarket shopping after a bong in the past, the last thing you want is some weirdo coming up to you and engaging you in conversation.

I'm currently listening to a leak download of the Scott Walker & Sun O))) album, and very good it is as well.

Started trawling the bay and stumbled upon the Hollies greatest hits. Lovely stuff!

The Hollies did two absolutely fantastic albums in 1967, 'Evolution' and 'Butterfly', the latter in particular being a lost psychedelic classic - check out 'Would You Believe' and 'Try It' for size.

Currently loving Caribou, plus the new Hailu Mergia reissue, 'Tche Belew' from the Golden Year of 1977.

Great stuff - the Reykjavik live album is wondrous - I'm listening to 'Communal Blood' now and it is smashing.

Ah, no - thanks for the heads-up! I did see it in the shop, but it somehow slipped off my radar, so I'll try and sneak it onto the shop stereo at some point. A dangerous thing - I nearly always end up buying things (see: Hailu Mergia above and last year with his first reissue....)

I got that Liminanas compilation today. It's really good in a fizzy gallic noir way and I got two download coupons so if anyone wants one, let me know.

Mr Twin Sister[nb]'Mr' recently added[/nb]'s new album is lovely.  A nice bit of dream-poppy indie electronica.  Here's a great track from it.  The whole album is ace though.

Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick. Can anyone recommend some bands similar to Tull? Preferably in the style of the Aqualung phase.
