Never would've had Ned Flanders down as an F1 fan.

Toto Wolff was good to, he literally says "YEA-NOOOO!"

Thought they would have  bigger main screen to be watching the race off.

Ambient Sheep

Yes, me too, especially given how Coulthard would often pick up TINY details in the background (bits of cars dropping off) that I'd sometimes struggle to see even on a rewind.

From that I'd assumed they had a 52" or even a 60" monitor.

Also surprising that they don't have the timing screens replicated on the other side... a long way across for Alex Jacques to see them.  I guess they leave that stuff to the co-commentator(s).

Furthermore, no pitlane nor onboard channels!

This just in from the host of the excellent Missed Apex podcast, who has some excellent contacts:

QuoteRumours suggesting Russell has signed some kind of Mercedes contract are starting to emerge.

Ambient Sheep

Looks like this came from Joe Saward; seems it was in his weekly JSBM business insider newsletter (£199/year) that came out yesterday:

Bently Sheds

Joe Saward's recent blog update from Baku hints heavily at Russel being announced as a Mercedes driver around the British Grand Prix weekend.

Bottas' disintegration is putting into perspective Massa, Barrichello, Webber and Raikkonen's sulky years. Gone to pieces.

Alberon

Being a number 2 driver is never easy, but they do need to be closer to their teammate than literally half the field away.

Despite Hamilton's horrific cock-up last weekend the difference between the two drivers is vast. I'm not sure if Bottas has got signifiantly worse, it's just the car isn't light years ahead of the competition any more. More skill and effort is needed to put it into contention and I'm not sure that Bottas ever had it.

Russell has a better chance of being in contention. With Hamilton surely near the end of his career his new teammate could quickly find himself the number 1 driver.

Wonderful Butternut

Reminder that Bottas would've likely finished 2nd with Hamilton 8th at Monaco had it not been for the wheel nut getting fucked on his pitstop.

I'm not going to pretend that Bottas is WDC material or as good as Hamilton, but it was only one weekend previously where he heavily outperformed Lewis only to be denied by a technical issue.

Turkish GP back on, the week after Sochi!

EDIT: In the gap where Singapore was.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Hurray, I enjoyed last year's race, it was one of those truly mad days you can get in this sport.

Ambient Sheep

Yeah, I love Turkey, great track!

Also, the long-rumoured move of the Russian GP from Sochi to St. Petersburg is going to happen in 2023.

Blumf

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Another Tilke circuit. Looks quite narrow to me, bit of a Catalunya look in layout. Lack of passing places, but yeah, Sochi is a dead loss so may as well try somewhere different.

Blumf

Hah! Bottas you berk!

Lucky that didn't turn nasty, +3 grid penalty seems firm but fair.

BlodwynPig

Is this Hamilton doing a Barcelona, letting the little guy have a headstart so he can feel something, anything when he roars back to win again?

I think they've been plain outperformed by Red Bull and Verstappen. It will be good for the sport to have a different winner as well.

Wonderful Butternut

Well they still could have won (or at least not been completely defenseless late on) in France if they hadn't duffed the strategy, miscalculating both the power of the undercut, and when Verstappen's tires would drop off on his late charge. Hamilton also should've got at least 2nd from Azerbaijan, and probably 2nd in Austria but for smashing a kerb and damaging the car.

Red Bull are faster currently, but it's not as clear cut as the points difference suggests. Not used to being under pressure that Mercedes lot.

To be clear it's just the Grand Prix. We're not cancelling Australia. Unless anyone scrolls through Australia's old tweets

Max Verstappen talks about his abusive Dad, Jos "I'm still bitter that I was shit in the same car Schumacher won a WDC in, so now I try and live through my son" Verstappen.

https://twitter.com/AaronRook91/status/1415049261444648972

Idk, is that kid damaged? Jos left him a petrol station after an argument following a kart race once as well. Oh, and he used to hit his wife.

Blumf

Well, that explains a lot. What an arsehole of a dad.

In other news, Lando Norris got mugged outside the UEFA cup final
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/57818938
QuoteFormula 1 driver Lando Norris was mugged and his team-issued watch worth £40,000 stolen after the Euro 2020 final at Wembley on Sunday.

The 21-year-old was returning to his McLaren car in an official Wembley car park when he was attacked by two men.

A McLaren statement said Norris, fourth in the world championship before this weekend's British Grand Prix, was "unharmed but understandably shaken".

There were witnesses to the incident, which is being investigated by police.

No other property was stolen.

Looking at it, I feel sorry for the muggers, ugly chunk of tat:

petril

at least we know he doesn't need a whipround for a new watch. that's one less problem to deal with

Blumf

That was one of the best qualifying sessions I've seen in a long time. Lots of nail biting with Max and Lewis, and hearing the crowd cheer round the track for George. The TV director seems to be good too, really getting a feel for the speed this weekend.

Still not convinced by this sprint race idea, we'll see.

Blumf

Meh, just the first 17 laps of tomorrow's race. Only real thing of note was Perez screwing up his position. <shrug>

May be better with next year's cars, if aero changes manage to make the racing closer.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Blistering tyres in a fucking sprint race*. Who runs this sport?

*I still don't blame Pirelli, they do what they're told

Wonderful Butternut

Well there's one to talk about.
