Ah, Nick. I'm seeing him twice in a few weeks so have spent far too much of my time lately watching live videos of him. I absolutely love this performance of Oh My Lord:

TheMonk

For anyone who likes old Cat Stevens tunes, there's a lot to enjoy in this performance last month:

This is absolutely haunting. Sad, funny and captivating. Easily my favourite live performance of a song on YouTube (although a lot on this thread have come close).

Any Bonnie Prince Billy fans in the house? Really love this vid of him playing in coney island.

Beautiful Kanye doin New Slaves on Jools Holland. Fuckin amazing. https://youtu.be/3DR16DHB4hs

A few punk ones:

Bad Brains - Pay to Cum - check out H.R. dodging a bottle or glass or something while barely missing a beat at about 0:13.

Hüsker Dü Live in London - filmed for Channel 4, I believe, around the time New Day Rising came out. It's a blistering set.

Snuff - Keep the Beat - just a reminder of what a special band the original line-up of Snuff were (not that their later stuff's duff, but there's some magic here). Not an ounce of fat on their music, and such a pronounced soul influence.

Fear - I Love Livin' in the City - or any of their performances from the Decline of Western Civilsation, really.

Nick Cave doing what he does.

https://youtu.be/8RrS7P6UTKA

If we're doing Nick Cave, this performance of Red Right Hand at some awards ceremony (introduced by Russell Crowe, no less) is brilliant.  I think it's the only live version I've seen where Cave plays the piano for it.  3:20 onwards especially is yes.

Puce Moment

A weird reverby live version of Corporeal by Broadcast. With Trish throwing in samples.

:sigh:

Hank Venture

There's this Norwegian band called Kaizers Orchestra that I'm convinced would be absolutely huge if they sang in English and were from the UK or USA. They play rock influenced with elements of punk and traditional gypsy music, without it turning into an annoying novelty a la Gogol Bordello.

Anyway, they're an absolutely phenomenal liveband: https://youtu.be/xiozMUVZWRU?t=1986

I know this has already featured on a different thread on here in the past but any excuse to watch this again.

Jon Spencer going a bit mental on Italian TV

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XA-ryAI0oQM

That was crazy, Blues Explosion are such a great live band. O/T, but has anyone heard any of Russell Simins' solo stuff? I'm Not A Model is ace.

Without meaning to sound too much like a fawning fanboy, if you haven't seen Mike Patton's Mondo Cane show at the Amsterdam Paradiso, you are missing out.  It's 60s Italian pop music with a full orchestra, but far better than that sounds:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRjKlZiGHQI

Highlights are Che Notte!, Urlo Negro, Deep Deep Down and Legata ad un Granello di Sabbia ... but since nobody's posted a setlist there, you'll just have to watch the whole fucking thing.  They all happen fairly early on anyway.

gilbertharding

This: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFnkSCdpdmg is The Motor City 5, playing in some kind of tv studio.

Hootenanny!!

Here's one I've always loved.
I actually have her first album which is a live album and it's convinced me that I need to go see her before me or her pop our clogs.

Erykah Badu - Next Lifetime

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H30lTFmW8a4

Someone originally posted this here, but I don't think it was in this thread

Fugazi - Waiting Room

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGJFWirQ3ks

I also really like this one, from Amoeba record store, mainly for Kevin Spacey on drums, and Trendy Dad in the background of the guitar solo remembering happier times

Meat Puppets - Oh Me

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTALWD2ww4o

The Meat Puppet brothers look like they'd be the coolest guys to hang out with

Also, Foo Fighters - Exhausted from Tibetan freedom festival. I assume Lisa Simpson was there

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huxaGlDYPP8

In the brief window after Nirvana when the Foo Fighters were listenable

Dr Rock

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGFWcQjF65w   Nomeansno - Small part isolated and destroyed (Germany 1989 - A bit of a cheat since it is edited together footage from a couple of gigs, but it's amazing so you should watch it anyway)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcIFoK993VM   Pigment Vehicle - Sleep
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqdgbggnHHg  Pigment Vehicle - I'm an Alligator (Cheers to Nev for alerting me to this band and their live videos)

QDRPHNC

White Stripes doing White Moon from Under Great White Northern Lights... Meg starts crying, Jack almost breaks... and the body language at the end. Christ.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQXWgabuLKE

DukeDeMondo

Guy Clark doin' "Country Mornin' Music" in an outtake from Heartworn Highways. Imagine being in this house, at this time. Fuckin Jesus Christ. Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt... Fuck me. Pished, the lot of them.

https://youtu.be/h4V4_LIxqNE

And Young Steve Earle doin "Mercenary Song" at the same pished up session, years before he recorded it. Years before he recorded anything that anyone ever heard.

I pondered putting this in the Richard Dawson thread as it's reminiscent of his some of his work, especially 'Poor Old House'.

Jake Thackray 'Molly Metcalfe'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiXINuf5nbI

A rather beautiful and chilling tale of his dead Great Aunt, rotting away with her herd of sheep. I'm also fascinated with the dialogue of used by shepherds to count their sheep, a language that I suspect has now dead.

Here are the regional variation of Yan tan tehera

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yan_tan_tethera

I do want to learn this for no other reason than to keep it alive, but there aren't many sheep to count in North London. Still who can forget that 'Bumfitt' generally means 15.

Sia performing a stripped-down acoustic version  of 'Titanium' at the TREVOR Live benefit concert in 2013:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbGfFEmTYkU
Such power and emotion in her voice. It has a totally different feel to Guetta's 'party anthem' version.

This was one of her first live performances after retiring in 2011 due to health problems (and an attempted overdose) after the tour for the 'We Are Born' album. She moved on to writing for other artists, and Guetta sent her this track which she completed by adding the lyrics and vocal melody. He ended up releasing it using Sia's guide vocal without her permission (which she wasn't too pleased about).

Otis Redding at Monterey, man. Jesus fuck.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=51&v=ByramCRD8E0

'I've Been Loving You Too Long'. The voice on that man. That end section where he's just singing "I loove you, I loove you, good God almighty, I loooove you". Listen to his voice. Love is poison and love is joy. Otis evidently knew. Chills.

great_badir

Mention of Garth Hudson in the least fave members of your fave band thread reminded me of this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11Y987Uf1wY

Absolutely mind blowing stuff.
