I think this John Martyn clip is astonishing, he even says as much at the end. Dobro solo is off the hook!

Then for sheer raw rock power, this 1992 Melvins set would be hard to beat.

Love this. Fondly remember the first time i heard their music, probably linked on here actually several years ago. Huge fan of Sharrock's playing

I love Yussef Dayes' precise but animated intensity on the drums in this, and Mansur Brown's guitar, particularly when it takes flight around 4:40. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwVtIPeYIeQ

More Yussef Dayes brilliance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_IZI7YQLsU expanding on a Stanley Clarke motif.

That's great! What a killer drummer.

This Pat Metheny Group performance is phenomenal:

Yeah, I love it. Amazingly close to the sound of the studio version, but with extra fire in it. I always enjoy his collaborations with Lyle Mays.

Crabwalk

Speaking of Pat Metheny, I've been bingeing on live Joni Mitchell performances of late, and this version of 'Amelia' from the '79 Shadows & Light Tour, with Metheny accompanying, is one of the most incredible live performances I've seen on YouTube. Joni's playing and singing is so precise yet so soulful, and it's one of her most beautiful songs of course. And Metheny's closing solo is equally amazing. Not sure if Joni walks off to give him the spotlight or, more likely, to sneak a fag.

Gulftastic

Watching the TOTP returns, where she has just appeared singing her breakthrough hit 'Stop', I learned that Sam Brown's amazing voice gave up on her in 2007 and she can no longer sing. What a tragedy.

Fuck me, she was good.

Haha, great! I was in that very yard / beer garden why only last year!

Anyway, I spent a decent proportion of this weekend watching this magnificent performance of one of my favourite Teardrops songs:

I'm not sure it's astonishing, but quite nice to see Jimmy Somerville doing his backing vocals on this live. https://youtu.be/6XUa00BOL8o
From the same show, their finest moment.

Utterly adore this clip of the Tenniscoats making music out of railings, steps and whatnot at a train station.  Total salve (which is kinda necessary as I feel like I've got the coronervirus right now).  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P2rtqVma_Ww

Load of twee tippy tapping bollocks. You could make better music kicking a toddler through some railings. Baba Bimba onto a track death, cunts.

Jun Togawa & Yapoos

she's really ace isn't she

Fo' sho'.  Real force to be reckoned with.  Love that video.  Her live album with Yapoos from the year before Ura-Tamahime is probably my favourite thing by her.  She properly sings herself inside out.  Whenever I've sung live, I've really felt the alchemical energy conjuring going on between the audience and musicians hit me like a brick.  I'm amazed that someone who had nowhere near perfect pitch, who sometimes straight-up screamed her lyrics, most of which read like some lost Camus lecture, was an actual bonafide popstar for a spell there.  I need to relisten to Guernica some more- I remember their first two albums were full-on orchestral, operatic masterpieces (well, the first was a chintzy synth-orchestra, but still good, and the second upgraded to real instruments).

Well yeah, they are kinda twee (although later on in a soothing free improv kind of way); they even put out a great collaborative LP with twee kings The Pastels.  It seems a very British aesthetic to be terrified of being a bit fey and earnest, but that's probably why so much of the world thinks we're an island of mardy twats.  Plus I love when singers do away with the whole profound lyrics thing and just sing meaningless syllables, Yoko Ono-style.  Your post does sound a lot like what must have been going through that plump businessman's head when he passed them on the stairs.

Dolly Parton - Just Because I'm A Woman

Amazing song from 1968. Why this song isn't better known I do not know.

Absolutely love this. Thank you so much for posting. (I like that turntable post too but prefer this and didn't want to clog up the thread).

It's reminded me of this.
