Absolutely lacerating psychedelia, I haven't taken acid in 25 years but I imagine this would be amazing to listen to on it.

Love. Got to see these

This Russell Harty special features Gary Glitter, Pete Townsend AND David Bowie (doing the only filmed live version of "Drive-In Saturday" with the Spiders). It's also got Ronnie Lane looking like he's having the best time ever and Chris Jagger looking like his brother.

That's great, thanks for posting it - but a bit depressed by searching out the fucking disgusting The Who interview which is mentioned in the comments. Honestly, are there four bigger dickheads in music than those four?

Is that the one that's in "The Kids Are Alright" where Keith Moon asks Harty "Where's your wife? How's she?" and he and Townsend rip each others clothes?

gilbertharding

Yes. 'The Kids are Alright' is an unintentionally grim title for anything they're involved with, if you ask me.

"Backs to the wall!" "I was researching for my book" "Whoops I've had a heart attack shagging a prostitute while full of cocaine" "Oh dear Neil Boland" you wonder why they had so much to say to Russell Harty, really. Arseholes.

In honour of the passing of Danny Ray, James Brown's Emmcee and cape guy, here's a fabulous bit of James Brown:

He has the crowd eating out of his hand.

I can vaguely remember Harty on TV. Can't recall any of his programmes but quite liked him. Just read about the behaviour of The Sun around his death. I wish Murdoch would die very painfully. I mean, I wish that anyway.

Have we had Prince and The Revolution doing a ten minute version of 'America' from Around The World In A Day yet?

Gobsmacking. He looks consumed with joy at his own talent during this and who can blame him?

DrGreggles

A mention of Prince on Superbowl Sunday?
Internet Law stipulates that I have to link to this:

Oh this is marvelous.

This just popped up on Youtube (when I was listening to the crazy rockabilly of the other thread).

Now this type of music really isn't for me but it certainly goes down well with some on here, and it certainly is extraordinary. Love the way Whispering Bob says "from their new album Hot Menu". Perect.

I can't pretend that I was especially enlightened myself in lots of ways, at the time - in my defence, I was a naïve, sheltered provincial teenager - but I will say I knew that The Sun was a disgusting rag.

This is one which crops up quite often in the recommendations panel. You're expecting it to be terrible.

In the same vein as this, an incredible live performance of 'a love bizarre' with Sheila E.

The extra long versions of tracks he used to do in those days are absolutely untouchable monster jams.

Tom Waits on The Tube, 1985.
That's Mark Ribot on guitar!

Wow, love this. His voice is so booming.

Can you imagine seeing him in concert at this time? A proper show
I love the Big Time concert video but 1985-ish would have been my dream concert.
Having said that, he was pretty fucking amazing in 2007.

You jammy sod. I couldn't get a ticket to that, was going to go up to Scotland to see the bastard. I don't feel like I'm as big a fans as i was then. Doubt he'll ever tour again now. Yeah 85ish would be the one.

Big Time is absolutely incredible and was my introduction to him (properly).  The albums around that period (esp Swordfishtrombones) are great.  I'd kinda thought of him in Neil Young/Bob Dylan terms, but stuff like Singapore isn't like anything else I've ever heard.

I really wish I'd realised his greatness a couple of years earlier and I might've caught him in 2007.

Cost me an arm and a leg. Hotel and train up to Edinburgh plus two tickets for £85 quid each. And the journey was a nightmare Train to Preston - replacement bus to Carlisle - train to Edinburgh.
But it was worth it. He played Invitation to the Blues

EDIT: Just checked and he didn't play anything from Swordfishtrombones

Sorry if it's been on already but I never tire of seeing this;

Sam Obernik absolutely kills this performance of one of the great weird chart hits.
