Anyone want an new old song from Mike Love?
https://soundcloud.com/theendrecords/mike-love-unleash-the-love/s-t7WXN

eta: *whispers* it's actually ok. I've heard worse.
It's better than Smart Girls, a lot less entertaining than Smart Girls but...
weirdly aggressive title line for the spirit/message of song & lyrics bit hypercritical re his friendship/unoffical endorsing of Trump.

fake edit: just listened and Run James Run is 10000 times better.

eta2: double album of (semi)new(ish) songs & Beach Boys re-recordings
https://www.thebeachboys.com/news/beach-boys-mike-love-release-new-double-album-unleash-love-november-17-through-bmg

Cover looks like a fucking dashed off photoshop spoof & using the actual Beach Boys on the "Mike Love co-founder and singer/leader of the" sticker is dodgy as fuck too

That's a dove you're unleashing there, Mike.

Fucking idiot needs a proofreader.

He's probably also got his cock out.

The Beach Boys Pensioners were recently in the same room for the first time in wot, about 5 years? Nothing major, just a interview for the Sirius XM radio network.

Looks like Brian and Al didn't get the dress code memo! Mike seems to be sporting a Hulk Hogan look these days, hmm.

You'd never guess there was a divide between the bands members, would you? ;) (Apparently, they're part of a new 'Mike Love' clothing line!)

I happened upon this last night

Not heard the second one yet but am loving the first.

This is where someone tells me this has already been posted...

I  saw Brian in Birmingham afew weeks ago. Glad I saw him, although if it wasn't for Al Jardine  (and his son) there really wouldn't ve been much of a show.
Brian looked at various times,  scared,  lost, bored....
But the saddest sight was him being helped off stage by his crew as he was on a mobility walking frame.
Broke my heart.

I saw him nearly 10 years ago at the Roundhouse and he was all of those things apart from the mobility issues even then. I'm glad I saw him but the band led by Darian were the probably the best thing about the evening.

That and the seafood platter I had at Marine Ices across the road.

He had an operation on his back quite recently, and is still recovering, so hopefully his mobility will improve soon. He was getting about in a wheelchair for a while, so there's already been some improvement.

People close to him say that he does enjoy performing, but that he can have good days and bad days (and the bad days will consist of voices in his head threatening to kill him, which would be enough to put anyone off). I hope he's OK. I saw him a couple of years ago and he seemed to be in pretty decent form / mood, but not stellar. Al Jardine is bloody spectacular, though, and the band is amazing.

Shaky

The look in Brian's eyes as he listens to Mike Love in that 2nd pic up there says it all.

Wowee! Passing By with lyrics . . . a full length Meant for You . .  tons of amazing stuff!

Hope this eventually gets a proper CD release - I love the sound of the arrangements in this era - the bass and detuned piano playing together (Walk on By, Old Man River)

Sin Agog

Spun Feel Flows a few days ago.  Conjures up such a unique ambience.  Surf's Up is definitely my favourite album of theirs.

Also saw that Cusack film.  Really liked it, but I do wonder what My Glove had to say about it.

I am seeing him next week in Sunrise, FL. Will be the 9th or 10th time I've seen him, starting with the Royal Festival Hall in 2002. Matt Jardine's vocal on Don't Worry Baby was the highlight last time (Darian was a big absence).

The Dennis stuff on this release is wicked. Full Manson phase.

The Beach Boys really were fucking idiots with the material they held back.

"Be With Me" is inspired stuff. The demo has some haunting piano chords.

Brian's vocal on "Walk On By" - chills.

Full length Meant For You was previously released five years ago on Made In California!

Listen out also for the roots of Sunflower's "Our Sweet Love" in "Our New Home".

This is absolutely my favourite era in the Beach Boys' long history and has not been particularly well-served in the past by unofficial releases so these latest downloads have made me very happy indeed.

QuoteBrian's June Tour Dates Postponed: Read Brian's note:

Dear friends,

It is with great regret that I need to postpone my upcoming June tour.

It is no secret that I have been living with mental illness for many decades. There were times when it was unbearable but with doctors and medications I have been able to live a wonderful, healthy and productive life with support from my family, friends and fans who have helped me through this journey.

As you may know in the last year or so I've had 3 surgeries on my back. The surgeries were successful and i'm physically stronger than i've been in a long time.

However, after my last surgery i started feeling strange and it's been pretty scary for awhile. I was not feeling like myself. Mentally insecure is how I'd describe it. We're not sure what is causing it but i do know that it's not good for me to be on the road right now so I'm heading back to Los Angeles.

I had every intention to do these shows and was excited to get back to performing. I've been in the studio recording and rehearsing with my band and have been feeling better. But then it crept back and I've been struggling with stuff in my head and saying things I don't mean and I don't know why. Its something i've never dealt with before and we cant quite figure it out just yet.

I'm going to rest, recover and work with my doctors on this.

I'm looking forward to my recovery and seeing everyone later in the year.

The music and my fans keep me going and I know this will be something I can AGAIN overcome.

Love & Mercy,

Brian Wilson

Whilst I'm here, the second best olden times album I've heard this year (after "Till Dej" by Mikael Ramel) has been "Western Justice" by Jack Rieley and Machiel Botman.

Where the Beach Boys could've/should've gone after "Holland" instead of retreating into being the first big Sixties heritage act, 5 years before the Rolling Stones.
