I love that all the conservative posters in that thread are the Mike Love supporters verses the left wing Brian fans! That says it all, doesn't it?

Speaking of Mike Love, i'm afraid Christmas struck early, folks.

Thanks for that - the footage of Mike Love rubbing lotion on himself was... something else.

Nowhere Man

I fucking love that channel, really just reaffirms why I love this band.

This is one of my favourites, right down to the cheesy disco California Girls

"I guess i'm just a sentimental sap"

"WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNN...."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FF2GK0iPpXw
Anyway this song is a serious guilty pleasure for me, definitely because of Carl's voice. Look at those corny lyrics and try not to laugh -

Quote"Brian's Back"

Teenage gamblers
Sittin' in a Rambler
Listenin' to the radio
And then standing in the grandstand
Following the gameplan
Watching life's plays unfold

You fell in love with a pretty cheerleader
I even married one
And we once rode a cab out in Salt Lake City
Comin' up with "Fun Fun Fun"
(Fun fun fun)

They say that Brian is back
Well I've known him for oh so long
They say Brian is back
Well I never knew that he was gone
Still they say "Brian is back"
I know he's had his ups and downs
Well they say "Brian is back"
But in my heart he's always been around

I still remember
Their soundin' sweet and tender
Singin' "Danny Boy" on Grandma's lap
And those harmony highs
Could bring tears to my eyes
I guess I'm just a sentimental sap

"Good Vibrations" caused such a sensation
Not to mention ol' Pet Sounds
And we traveled the world
As the banners unfurled
I guess you'd have to say we got around
(We got around we got around)

They say that Brian is back
Brian is back
They say that Brian is back
(Brian is back)
Well I've known him foroh so long
And the say "Brian is back"
Well I never knew that he was gone
Still they say "Brian is back"
(Brian is back)
I know he's had his ups and downs
Well they say "Brian is back"
But in my heart he's always been a-round

ah ah ah ah ah ah

I just watched the video Mike Love and Bruce Johnston on "Public People, Private Lives"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k1_NcgFOZs&feature=youtu.be&t=9m13s

The whole thing is embarrassingly awful (even for Mike), The Beach Boys are fresh from the release of Kokomo, the boys worst ever hit single. Mike gets noticeably fucked off when Bruce honestly admits to the interviewer that although Mike is responsible for Kokomo, Brian was the main guy behind the "other records" (i.e the classic hits)

Some classic passive-aggresive Mike quotes on Brian -

"Well maybe I was just a little bit more responsible for Kokomo because he wasn't even on the record".

"When he started getting into hallucinogenic drugs, it kinda set him back about two decades".

and when quoted on the loss of Dennis after his death -

"He was such a rebel, he defied the laws of nature. Which, you can do. You can violate the speed limit, you can do this and you can do that. But after you violate enough of the laws of nature with drugs and alchohol, you die".

and thats only the last couple of minutes of the video!

The ending to the song Surf's Up is one of my favourite moments in recorded music.

Crabwalk

Crabwalk

I think the solo piano version is the most incredible of all.

Here's some wonderful footage of Brian playing it at home in '66, taken from Leonard Bernstein's documentary 'Inside Pop: The Rock Revolution', for those who've never seen it:

Hearing him go into Surf's Up on the recent tour made it hard to breathe for a bit. The medley of Wake the World/Busy Doin' Nothin' was gorgeous as well.

QuoteI fucking love that channel, really just reaffirms why I love this band.

(takes a bow)

It's really an insane, Shakespearean story. The more you go into it, the weirder and weirder it gets. Truly, "America's Band." Sorry, James Watt!

#100
I have to say that even with Brian's huge number of well known songs like Good Vibrations etc All I Wanna Do is probably up there for my favourite BB song

Some of the music Mt Vernon and Fairway is unbelievable, one of the only things that send me to another place, which sounds like bollocks but I really can't say that about anything else. And to think of the context in which this was produced...

Its a shame that the original version of Big Sur (also known as the the 4/4 version) from the unreleased album, Landlocked STILL has yet to get an official release. It's so beautiful it can momentarily make me forget how much of a twat Mike is.

Blinder Data

Just wanted to come in here to say that Love You has, after a few abrasive first listens, rocketed up in my estimation. It's really naff but just so loveable and shonky and weird. It's got a track all about Johnny Carson, for crying out loud! All the songs have a real childlike quality to them, so you can shout along to them rather than sing.

don't YOU think HE'S such A natural GUYYYYYYYY

I Wanna Pick You Up is so cheesey but lovely. Good Time is probably one of my favourite Beach Boys songs - the arrangements are pretty sublime.

Love You - a bloody great little weird gem of an album.

I think Love You is brilliant. Easily my fourth favourite after Surf's Up, Pet Sounds and Smile. I know fourth favourite sounds like damning with faint praise, but it's fuckin Beach Boys, like.

Nowhere Man

Fuckin' love you guys, I also love Love You! The follow-up, Adult/Child is a huge favourite of mine too, some of the songs are brilliant. It's a shame they didn't give it a release but I can see why they didn't think it was gonna be successful.[nb]The irony being that not only is it better than all the BB albums that followed, but almost all of the following 'commercial' Beach Boys albums had diminishing returns with every new release.[/nb]

Here are my favourites from Adult/Child:

Life Is For The Living:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66TSlRjVKqU

Deep Purple
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXrSpAZERTE
(The closest The Beach Boys got to a Big Band song)

It's Over Now
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmA0IXsIemU

It's Trying To Say
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymySEnO5Su4
(Baseball's on!)

Still I Dream of It
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rNLiHVQsU0

of these songs, only It's Over Now and Still I Dream of It have had official releases. Give the album a release you shits!

think I'm scarred for life now - & that's just from the legit hot tub/lotion footage (naked Mike Love - did not want).

+ you sent me off down the Beach Boys related youtube rabbit hole - has the legendary shit beards & 'stop getting the Beach Boys wrong!' accuracy (& source of my tag line) tv movie been posted in this thread yet?

Brians coke ravaged voice singing Drip Drop. I think it kicks arse.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS_uO7hVOn8

Fast forward to two minutes in to hear him say "lets go mutha fucker!"

Skip Bittman

My attempt at a multipart found footage fan edit Finnegans Wake by way of Negativland about this incredible band was

"Endless Syncopation"

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL03A597537BC4CD3B

Mike Love's minions complained about the final part and silenced the audio, alas. Muahahahah. About then the playlist switches to weird live bits and covers but I'm sure nobody will make it that far.

This was made before I started meeting some of the folks involved and getting QUITE as venomous as the Christmas video. The story gets even weirder, people. And continues to weekly. What a drama machine!

Drip Drop is great. BW should pull that out for his upcoming "Rock n Roll album."

just in case you needed more of Mike Love being sleezy....

It's like a victim/perpetrator / last time seen alive photo.

She looks like she's thinking 'need to get the fuck away from this creep', he looks dead eyed & wanting to get her home to help shave her 'pom pom' for the very first time.

I hate my brain.

Haaa.

I've just worked out the ONLY way to say his name, it's as John Hurt as the Elephant Man saying "My glove."

Nowhere Man

Mike: WWWWHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.... *has heart attack on stage*

Bruce: Oh gee whiz!

Mike: Aagh, quick Bruce, do something!

Bruce: *adjusts microphone*

(During Mikes funeral)

Al: So can I be back in the band now?

Bruce: Uh, I guess so..

(Altered Beast soundbite plays: RISE FROM YOUR GWWAVE!)

(Mike rises out of his coffin)

Mike: You're out of the band Buckwheat!

Al: Aw gee whiz!

Mike: and that goes for you too Cousin Brian! We got Jeffrey Foskett, we don't need you!

Brian: What's happening? My manager said there would be juicy steaks and birthday cakes to eat.

Mike: Godamnit it cuz, we need to write a song together like the good old days!

Joe Thomas: No Mike, i'm the guy he writes with now. He doesn't want to work with you anymore, your a bad influence on Brian.

(The reanimated corpse of Landy and Murry both rise from the church floor and nod their heads in approval. Landy puts his arm around Brian)

Brian: So, where the heck is this Kokomo place anyway?

(Everyone laughs at this including the ghost of Ronald Reagan and John Stamos plays us out into the credits with his version of Forever. Afterwards they all go to the studio and record the whole group singing on the floor like barnyard animals.)

The Fat Boys and the cast of Full House then proceed to tell us how influential Pet Sounds is.

Watching some of the clips from the 2012 tour, (particularly seeing Brian watching Carl and Dennis on the screen) made me tear up a little. I can't believe how long ago it feels now. I miss that era.

Oh fucking hell. I finally got around to reading the Rocky Pamplin thread on SmileySmile.net. For those who don't know he was a bodyguard for The Beach Boys in the late 70s and has a book coming out.

He started talking about his reasoning of why he and another Beach Boy bodyguard, Stan Love (Mike's cousin) brutally beat up Dennis.

QuoteYes...the "ONE  and  ONLY" reason Stan and I beat up Dennis...is because Carolyn Williams, Brian's live in nurse, called Stephen Loves former personal assistant Janet Nelson in a "PANIC" crying out for "HELP" because Dennis was showing up at Brian's house,in the Palisades, on a regular basis and borrowing money to buy COCAINE and then sharing the COCAINE with Brian... (brotherly love) UNTIL Brian had a "SEIZURE"... and she had to stick a rolled up washcloth in his mouth to keep Brian from swallowing his tongue!!! IS THAT REASON ENOUGH FOR Y'ALL ? Stan came and got me on a Yacht Party' in Marina Del Ray, (the same Marina Dennis drowned in three years later) it was Super Bowl Sunday 1980. At around midnight Stan told me about the phone call he had received  that afternoon from Janet, Visa vie Carolyn Williams, about the horrific development with the ever demonstrative Dennis... and the COCAINE ... resulting in the  extremely dangerous  LIFE THREATENING SEIZURE Brian incurred the day before! To Dennis this is all just FUN and GAMES... Carolyn was SCARRED out of her mind...and called  Janet because she knew Janet would know how to reach Stan Love... the only person who would know what to do!  My response was... HOLY sh*t... your kidding... so what do you want to do... Stan said lets you and I go to Venus beach, where Dennis lives, I got his address from Carolyn, who is in tears... and BEAT THE sh*t out of Dennis... it's  the only language Dennis understands!!! I announced to the party guests... where Stan and I were going... and what we were going to do... and the Yacht party erupted in applause!  Though we no longer worked for Brian, in the capacity of keeping DRUGS OUT OF BRIAN'S LIFE... we still loved him!!! Off we went... the CALVARY to the rescue! Stan kicked the front door off the hinges, he and I CHARGED in, and in front of a dozen people doing COCAINE... Stan and I BEAT THE sh*t out of Dennis!!! Then we showed up the next mourning at 8 am... to find Dennis, all alone, sitting on a six inch stool drinking Myers Rum and OJ... "breakfast of champions" We had  ONE MESSAGE for Dennis... LEAVE BRIAN ALONE... OR WILL BE BACK!!! Dennis never bothered Brian again... this is just part of the first chapter of my book "WIPEOUT" entitled "HAD TO PHONE YA"

What a fucking piece of human shit. Bare in mind Dennis and Brian between them already had severe problems with mental illness and drug abuse. Absolute pair of Cunts.
