It's been doing my head in trying to remember what the intro to Love's In You Love's In Me by Giorgio Moroder sounds exactly the same as and I've just worked out it's Cherish.

This was so uncanny when I heard this for the first time on the new series of OITNB that I googled Mazzy Star alongside the lyrics:

Mazzy Star - Fade Into You: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uJ61jgFCMM

Dum Dum Girls - Coming Down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZdbNMDH8hc

MoonDust

Just the drum intro on Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush

reminds me of Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross feat. Karen O's cover of the Immigrant Song by Led Zep.

Obviously Kate's came first, but I heard the Immigrant Song cover first.

'Athlete Cured' by The Fall: https://youtu.be/6jxobBg2MEw

'Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight' by Spinal Tap: https://youtu.be/SXHmWXPwol0

The former just came onto my iPod and I was convinced it was the latter. How the hell did Mark E. Smith get away with that one?

Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl

The Supremes - You Can't Hurry Love

That Jet one always had me thinking of this:

Iggy Pop - Lust For Life
https://youtu.be/HuBU3pzy7is

And apparently that kind of thinking really annoys Jet:

QuoteChris Cester responded to the media debacle, stating in a Jared Story interview that the beat was taken from Motown, referring to a meeting between Iggy Pop and himself:

"It's funny because I asked him point blank about that. He said I was crazy. He said that when he and David Bowie were writing "Lust for Life", they were ripping off Motown's beat. It's funny that he said that to me because we also thought we were ripping off Motown more than "Lust for Life". To be honest with you that kind of annoyed me a lot, because I always thought it was really lazy. People just go well Lust for Life is more well-known so that's what they go for, but if you listen to a song like "You Can't Hurry Love" (The Supremes) I think you'll find its closer to "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" than "Lust for Life" ever was. And that's what Iggy said as well."[nb]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Are_You_Gonna_Be_My_Girl[/nb]

Y'all know that John Lennon plagarised his own Dad for the intro to 'Imagine', right?

If I'm remembering correctly, according to his book, Steve Hanley fell out with Mark E Smith over Athlete Cured because it was a blatent lift and refused to play it. Think he was brow beaten into relenting in the end. I'm sure there are one or two other songs over his career that he was uncomfortable with as well.

Blue Jam

No mention of Sleeper yet? They intentionally made a few of the intros to their songs sound like they were intros to songs by another band... and when the song started proper you realised it was fucking Sleeper and turned the radio off.

Nice Guy Eddie for example- the intro sounds like it could be by INXS:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO7maM3y8Yw

...and Sale Of The Century's sounds like it could be Candy Flip:

...and What Do I Do Now?:

...reminds me of Squance by Plaid:

Lee and Nancy 'Summer Wine'

Electric Prunes 'I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night'

Now one is considerably more woozy than the other, but I've found myself thinking either one was the other song on more than one occasion.

Both recorded in 66, but were sleeper hits in 67. Very odd.
