I have watched Greg Davies' Shooting Cheeseballs At A Dog three times, three years apart, and each time the section on schoolkid nicknames has me weeping, retching and howling with laughter.

Saw Wanderlust the other day. Pretty naff film but there's one scene where Paul Rudd is psyching himself up for dirty talk with a sexy lady and he practises in front of the mirror. It starts off mildly amusing but I became hysterical by the end. I'm an idiot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8dR2Xs7ZBI

Despite loving most of David Wain's work I've always boycotted that film until he reinstates the scenes of Jennifer Aniston topless.

The last thing to make me howl with laughter was Review With Myles Barlow, during the Paying For Sex segment of episode 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbN5QDdlm38

Watching my wife play the opening speed test on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and instead of sprinting to the end, she hit every other button, including fire, stab, prone and grenade whilst screaming.

You had to be there.

Unmoved. Lock seems to get a lot of goodwill off[nb]or is it 'on'?[/nb] the back of 15 Storeys High. I think if Robin Ince did the same material in a similar way - it's not that different - there'd be stony verbwhore faces all round.  I don't think Lock's a natural stabd-up at all.

And Ince is a nicer bloke. *bursts into tears*

I agree. He has an excellent comedy mind but I'm not sure stand-up is his natural medium, or at least the way he chooses to do it.

I love Sean Lock's stand-up.....have I mentioned that enough times yet? He's certainly the only comedian I like enough to have actually paid to go and see him perform live, and will hopefully do the same again when he tours next year. He's one of the few stand-ups - Dara O Briain is another, and Bill Bailey to an extent - whose voice becomes the voice in my head for a few days after I've watched their shows, though with Lock, I basically ape his entire persona until it wears off.

To my mind, Lock's changed his performance style slightly in the wake of the McIntyre phenomenon. He was always quite a visual performer, but had his own methods - he now does a lot more of the 'galumphing around the stage, enacting the joke' style of performance these days which always goes on a beat too long for me. Still think he's a fantastic comic though.

It's not envelope pushing stuff, but Sean Lock is proof that you can pull off observational 'in the supermarket' type material in stand up. You just need to not come across like the smuggest cunt in the world, ie McIntyre. There's also something oddly unsettling about Lock in general. Like he could quite easily strangle you to death at the drop of a hat.

As for the actual topic, Rik Mayall is probably the closest I've ever got to crying with laughter outside of real life experiences. Bottom Culture's chess scene in particular.

Yes. A lot of that film was a bit of a pain in the hole, to be honest, but it was worth it for Rudd's dirty chat. I'm sure the version I saw went on slightly longer than that, as well. Probably one of your "Unrated" doohickeys.

Reading Mark Thomas' '100 Acts Of Minor Dissent' this afternoon, the line about staff at the Saudi Arabian Embassy reacting with 'the dignity and charm of a masturbating clown' literally left me unable to read on for about five minutes, I was laughing so much.

That's a  great visual, but wanking in place of masturbating would have been much better.

Rewatching old Fast Show sketches on Youtube, and Higson plaintively announcing "oh, I'm sorry; I've just cum" set me right off.

That linked to Peter Serafinowicz's Acting Masterclass and this YT comment is priceless.

Alex Allan 3 days ago (edited)

"Miserably failed impressions of great actors. Kevin Spacey does a better job by using only his voice and body language, than Serafinowicz with full make-up, props and supporting cast and a whole lot of lame jokes".

Watching old Richard Herring podcasts recently. Mark Gatiss on Paul McCartney: 'Even Paul McCartney doesn't look like Paul McCartney anymore. He looks like a middle-aged postwoman.'

I was gone for about twenty minutes. I'm still laughing now. What I love most about it is that (a) it doesn't actually make that much sense but (b) it is exactly right. It is exactly right.
