You have really missed the point of you thought the class element of this was about personally having the funds to reimburse them.

Well it is to a degree because that is part of the privilege, thinking that you can behave how you want because you are rich and can pay for it. That is a different mindset to spending a TV budget on a prank.

I only hope that the percussive sounds of "Pullmann makes the tea" get turned into a jingle in future eps.

(I haven't heard the Morris one yet, so don't spoil me if he's already done it.)

i like to think Buckles kept that in as a homage to On the Hour's sound effects-heavy radio play clips

Don't think I've ever heard anyone use the word 'germane' in an actual conversation before. Might attempt to use it soon. Only if it's, you know, relevant.

How very greer of you.

It's more about thinking that it's okay to rob workers of their dignity from above as long as you reimburse them. It's not about the capacity to pay but the attitude towards people's dignity.

I agree but I think "from above" is more a factor when it is some Bullingdon cunt who would not see a problem with that attitude, rather than a youthful prankster who just didn't really think it through and didn't have the maturity to see things from the other perspective

Twed

I think the only difference is we know Adam & Joe are generally nicer people than most/all Bullingdon Club members. From a class perspective it's the same (Adam and Joe are Old Westminsters). They thought it was fine when they did to the working class folk because they gave them money for their abuse.

The sole occasion I'd heard that word used by a speaking human before was in a Chris Morris bit. Perhaps The Day Today or the Radio 1 show.

Had to check the podcast was on normal speed when CM started talking.

So many little enjoyable bits in this. The radio jargon. The Berkoff/Clare bit, which reminded me of his impression of an exasperated, sighing Jim Naughtie interviewing Heseltine. "Brian Barron".
I know it's been said many times, but I really would like to hear him on radio again.

The last time I heard 'germane' it was spoken by Ralph Filthy.

Chris Morris can speak germane you know!

I'm very cynical about underlying cunty posh attitudes too, but TBH I think you're going out of your way to characterise it as such.

You can see where it came from as it follows the same logical thread as the '10% free' prank, but I think the most telling thing is on World Of Shame where they say 'after that we left the pranks to Jackass'. Which says to me that they had been pursuing some pranks as something entertaining to fill their TV show with, but after the horror of this one they realised this was unnecessary. Yes it was a dubious prank (as they all are), though it was also done with permission from the owner (who made a big misjudgement about the suitability of it with their staff). You only have to look to some of the punishments meted out to shop staff in Jackass to see that the mentality is not specifically borne of the British public school system.

I loved that too, he can't resist doing an impression of him when he says his name. It's just occurred to me that that's probably where he got the voice of Eugene Fraxby from.

Loved the Chris Morris one and really enjoyed Emily Dean as well. Did anyone else think they were both a bit pissed?

I did think the Morris interview was a bit odd in that it had almost no contributions from Adam in it. Chris just steamrolled him. What a fuckin' force of nature.

Only really on the bits where he's talking about TDSC. To be fair he has been doing the promo/Q&A circuit lately, so he's probably just in the groove of spilling all this stuff out to a listening audience right now.

Tiny bit disappointed Buxton wasn't familiar with the Bonzo Dog Band track 'Shirts'. I guess it's kind of like the granddaddy of British comedy public vox popping.

Just watched some of this old bit of the Adam and Joe Show where they visit the Rugrats animations.

It's reminded me why I didn't like Adam and Joe until the radio shows. They just turn up and take the piss. Why is it a funny joke to go and take the piss out of a load of people working on a popular kids' show? I suppose the staff could have been in on it but even then "the joke" seems quite meanspirited. It seems so at odds with the Adam in the Adam Buxton podcast, who just seems humble and friendly.
come on, the joke is that it's a spoof of shallow clueless presenters asking stupid questions. for the narrative of Joe's character getting the perks and Adam's being jealous the people have to be in on it to a degree.

"can you draw me"
"not unless you want to look like a train"

That Chris Morris one gave so much more than I could have ever hoped for. An absolutely fucking brilliant listen. What an amazing man. I hadn't heard him be so effortlessly eloquent and witty in an interview context before and his talk around FBI politics and conspiracies was hilarious. You can hear his brain move so fast, it's hard to keep up in places, but that was part of the joy. Adam and Chris's chemistry seemed spirited too.

Fucking marvellous.

Part II/The Lost Tapes up now, Chris Morris talking about the pixies *spunk fountain*

Not only that, Adam going for a piss break and Chris whistling David Bowie's 'Blackstar' whilst making a coffee!

Neither of them have made a decent sitcom or variety show.

Very grateful Adam understood us all well enough to leave that in. These were both wonderful interviews - does really make me wish Morris agonised less about doing some slightly less effort things. Would be great to hear him doing a show as himself.

Agree! I loved listening to him and it's impressive how much research he's obviously done for TDSC, but I sense hearing it in his owns words will be more appealing than watching the film. Given the lukewarm reviews on here at least.

There's a point in the second episode where he says something about how he has ideas all the time, but feels there's no point acting on them, unless he's going to invest several years into them and develop them fully, but I kind of disagree with that. I understand that motivation to be thorough and give ideas the deepest possible investigation, but the playing field is wide and I think there's a lot to be said for being silly and having fun.

And again another continent-sized hole in Buxton's cultural education. Amazed he never watched THIS as he's about the same age as me.

Yes, I was surprised by that, and Morris didn't mention it either.

Surprised he never discovered our very own Petomane Mr Methane given his knowledge of trash TV.

Ha, I did use to wonder if CM studying zoology was the reason why animals seem to prevade everything he does, so it's nice to have it confirmed.

I love that someone who studied zoology came up with the slogan "jam stuf in the cows twat"

I couldn't get through the recent one with the Harvard academic. She's just too much of that world, it's dripping off her voice and she wasn't very interesting (in the third of the podcast I listened to). Also writes books about privacy but describes VPNs as a "voice protocol" or something.

She didn't seem bad, I just have eight hours of stuff I will actually enjoy lined up.
