Billy Connolly one was bloody lovely.

How long before a guest starts the conversation with "Before you ask, Adam, no I didn't ever meet David Bowie" ?

NEW PAGE CHUXTON.

Billy Connolly one was lovely. Some of the stuff he's said has ended up in the news. Ramblechat fame at last!

Jerzy Bondov

Loved the Billy Connolly one.

Chollis

Bolly Connelly one was lively

Billy's voice/enthusiasm was so lovely, like sitting by a warm fire. Could have listened to about ten hours of that.

Wonder if he'll do an audiobook of Tall Tales? I think that would be delightful (there doesn't seem to be one available currently).

Tall Tales is a compendium of his most famous stand-up routines, so I think it's unlikely he'll re-do them for an audiobook. They could make an interesting compilation from his various records and specials though

(I actually think it's a bit of a missed opportunity, as they're simply presented in book form, with no intros or insight into their development. It would have been really interesting if he'd done it in the style of Stewart Lee's stand-up books, with footnotes shedding light on his routines)

I felt a strange sense of pride when he talked in such glowing terms about Vic Reeves and Stewart Lee - kind of like when you play some weird, leftfield music to your dad and he really likes it.

idunnosomename

this has been going for a while now. im kinda. bored with it though. liked the chris morris ones but he could have anyone on now and dont think i could be bothered to listen to it. even the Billy Connolly ones dont peak my fancy.

i'd prefer an hour and a half of him talking to himself and shouting at Rosie tbh.

I seem to remember Adam Buxton relating a story about doing this with Buxton senior and failing miserably.

The Connolly podcast was an absolute joy, and always beautiful to hear how witty, thoughtful and down-to-earth he is despite his decades of vast fame (illness or no).

Billy Connolly is the only celebrity I would ever shake warmly by the hand and probably weep while doing so.

Thank God I've never actually met him, I'd make a gushing fool of myself.

Adam was particularly good in that episode. As he said in his intro, he was fully aware that he was in the presence of a living legend, one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time, but he didn't sound nervous. It was a relaxed ramblechat. I guess that's because Billy isn't remotely intimidating, he's a nice man.

This year's Christmas ep ruined by a fanmade jingle. Never again please Adam.

Johnboy

ditched the Goldblum one 10 minutes in - way too full of himself

Sin Agog

Saving the Christmas ep for when I'm in Desolation, Lithuania tonight.

Connolly one was really cool, though.  He's the second geezer to mention The Incredible String Band in this run (first was Pullman).  I got a slight establishment vibe from him last time I heard him on some chat shows talking about the queen, but nah, whether it's the illness or my dart missing the board with that assumption, he's as free-spoken as ever.  I am glad he still says cunt.

I'm glad John Cleese got divorced. Yeah, I know it cost him a mint and must have been stressful, but I always used to confuse his psychotherapist missus with Connolly's psychologist wife.

Wouldn't say ruined, but yeah. Felt like the jingle equivalent of a bad fanfic.

I thought it was worse than that - it felt like something from the film podcast with Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo.

It would have been - fuck - nearly 30 years ago, and me and a pal were sitting in the beer garden in Cottiers in Glasgow's West End. We look up and see the man himself striding towards us (we were sat on a bench beside the doorway for the fancy restaurant they also had which was presumably where he was heading). It was such a surprise that we didn't have time to 'be cool' and just sort of gawped, open mouthed. 'Awright, lads!' he said in that way only he could, then smiled as we stammered 'Aw-aw-aw..right, Big Yin!' in response, and swept past us and headed inside.

I don't think it could have lasted more than two seconds, but it remains my favourite celebrity encounter ever, as it perfectly encapsulated so much about the man. He is very nice indeed, and knows how to read an audience perfectly, even if it's just two teenagers trying to have a low-key pint without getting ID'ed.

Oh, no. *Nothing* can be as smug as something from that particular podcast.

Bennett Brauer

I wonder if Connolly's story about Gerry Rafferty should have been edited out. I knew about his horrible decline and, from what I've read elsewhere, it could have been even more graphic, but it seemed out of place in the podcast as a whole.

It didn't ruin a very enjoyable episode, no, but you do have to wonder why Adam saw fit to include it. He's the funny jingle king, he doesn't need to fill up space with crap fan-made stuff.

Did anyone see Cornballs on The One Show? If so, how does the doodle story end?!? Please feel free to spoiler the ending, we don't want to ruin it for anyone who's actually quite happy to wait until Christmas 2020!

Bit rough, wasn't it? But I feel the big man was so precise in his description that he was intent in relaying just how grim it was. I wouldn't have had the balls to cut that just because I found it too much, so I can see why Buckles didn't either.

Never really been a fan of Billy Connolly's comedy but that was a lovely interview. He seems like a good guy.

Always much preferred Adam over Joe but, even by his standards, Cornish appeared extra smug and haughty in this latest Christmas episode. Maybe it's fatherhood or he's spent too much time as a film maker instead of being a more grounded mirth-maker like Dr. Buckles.

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

That's Cornballs' role within this double-act, though, isn't it? He's a bit smug and haughty, with Buckles being more of a lovable goofball.

I dunno, I quite enjoyed the Christmas episode, especially as it didn't contain any of the weird prickliness that's marred previous Christmas episodes. It was just two old pals making each other laugh for 90 minutes. Nice.

Oh, definitely, but there was something extra aloof about him on this one. Maybe I imagined it.

The episode with A&J with Louis T was my favourite of all the reunion episodes.

Something a bit off about this year's in my opinion, too.  Seemed a bit going through the numbers, silly games and crap gifts, check.  But not the usual warmth and genuine connection between them.  Almost seemed like they'd had a falling out before the show and hadn't properly made up.

A really solid 'song wars' effort from Joe though, despite movie success and new fatherhood, so I can't accuse him of a lack of effort.

I get genuinely perplexed sometimes at some of the alleged emotions and motivations that get read-into people's appearances, it's like we were listening to different podcasts.

I found this Xmas one very enjoyable, the sound effects game was great and I almost cried laughing at Joe's interpretation of what a giant would sound like.
