Artists That Sound Like TV Themes

Started by TJ, October 12, 2004, 03:30:20 PM

Previous topic - Next topic

TJ

Jamiroquai = "The Enigma Files"
Jamie Cullum = 'Happy Birthday Lisa' from "The Simpsons"
Oasis = "Play Away"
Propellerheads = the opening theme from "John Craven's Newsround"

Jemble Fred

I think you'll find that Oasis stole their sound from 'Jossie's Giants'!

phalmachine

The Darkness = Red Dwarf (The guitary opening theme from the later series)

That bit in the middle of Scissor Sisters' Laura sounds like the theme tune to Thomas The Tank Engine.

I'm ashamed to say that I first heard Chris Moyles make that observation.  Then I threw the radio into some dung.

Morrisfan82

Chemical Brothers later output = Byker Grove

Clinton Morgan

Wasn't the Propellerheads's collaboration with Shirley Bassey originally used in the Russ Meyer film 'Finders Keepers' during a scene with a stripper? Well, the instrumental bit at least.

phalmachine

Thought of some more:

Red Hot Chilli Peppers = Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Orbital = 999
Chas and Dave = Big Break
Oasis = Two Pints of Lager...
Michael Buble = Frasier
James Taylor = Cheers
The Orb = Doctor Who
Sly and the Family Stone = The New Avengers
Phish = Working Lunch
Rush = Battlestar Galactica

How about singers that sound like cartoon characters?  I'll start:

Cher = Barney Gumble
Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) = Cartman

Dr David V

Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My LA Ex = Watchdog. I swear.

Jaffa The Cake

You bastard. I won't be able to listen to his stuff now.

phalmachine

Sincerest apologies.

(laughs to self)

Clinton Morgan

Singers that sound like cartoon characters well predictably there's Macy Gray/Marge Simpson.

Back to bands sounding like TV themes...

"Train Above The City" by Felt. All of the tracks on this are tv-like, but especially the title track. The first 20 seconds of which should have been used to soundtrack some light-entertainment by now.

White Town deliberately wrote instrumentals to be used on tv programmes.  They usually had names like "Theme For A Mid-Afternoon Travel Documentary", but weren't all that much good. Although White Town's album "Women In Technology" (from 97, the one with "Your Woman" on it) is very, very good.

I was listening to Theme For An Early Evening American Sitcom today (seeing as I just got the album today) and I think it's absolutely brilliant.

Have you got Peek and Poke (the 2001 album)?

Dr David V

Morrisey - the Ladysmith Black Mumbaza beans adverts

Mr Colossal

This isn't really a tv theme, but i always thought Nickelback crooner Chad Kroeger sounds exactly like Vic Reeves in the 'Whats Vic singing? 'part of shooting stars.

OK,

Shaun Ryder in reformed Mondays - Grandpa Simpson.

non capisco

Conceptual rap clown and Peaches cohort Chilly Gonzalez of 'Take Me To Broadway' semi-fame sounds exactly like Dennis Pennis.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

QuoteThe Orb = Doctor Who

Fuck off!! No way.

alan strang

Iron Maiden = 'Roobarb'.

(an observation originally made on radio Mary Whitehouse Experience I believe)

WoShade

Early Cocteaus = Farscape
Blur = Steptoe and Son

[hides]

swinny

"I Love NYC" by Andrew WK sounds just like the theme tune to Pat Sharpe's Funhouse.
