I did watch an extended cut last, I don't know if it was studio produced, might have been a fan-made edit?

There are several extended cuts, all of which are slightly different.  The main two long-long ones run for just under 3 hours, and just over 3 hours.  There is (was) also a 4 hour version created by the Japanese distributors specifically for long-haul flights, that rarely gets mentioned because I don't think it was ever released on any form of home video format.  Not having seen the 3 hour ones for years, I can't remember if Lynch's name appears on them, or if they were Alan Smithee jobs.  If memory serves from contemporary reports, the 4 hour one had Lynch's name on it.

There are also rumours of 5 and 6 hour versions, and even an 8 hour workprint, but all of those are almost certainly bollocks as according to all records and shooting scripts still knocking about, only about 5 hours of film was actually shot, and some of that would probably have been alternate takes of already existing scenes.

Yeah, I think that's the one I watched: Dune.(2006).OFFICIAL.SMITHEE.US.EXTENDED.EDITION.DVDRip.272p.H26

'Twas 2 hours 56 mins.

There was also a fan-edit of Prometheus I saw a good while back that made it slightly more bearable too, re-inserted some the edits from the DVD and changed around the order of a few scenes, it's quite interesting how people can almost make their own sometimes dynamically different versions of movies these days with the magic of editing.

The talent (and spare time) out there is frightening - the Star Wars despecialised editions are the work of crazy geniuses.
