The list is too long and convoluted with too many possibilities (e.g. Kraftwerk have had a wider influence on music in general than Madonna, but as a figure Madonna has had more impact), but thinking about people whose deaths will have a response on the same scale as Bowie, I'd say McCartney, Dylan and Madonna will probably be at the top, with the likes of Jagger & Richards, Page & Plant[nb]that's providing they die in pairs[/nb], Dave Gilmour, John Lydon, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Brian Wilson, Kate Bush, Morrissey etc. following up.
