The Norm Macdonald Thread Over Here

I wonder why Norm said he doesn't read books as they make him sleepy, when he clearly does.  Think he casually name-dropped Nabokov's Speak, Memory to Russell Brand (whose confession on one of the podcasts to not reading books and learning everything he knows from TV I actually believe).  No way Norm doesn't read all the time.  Guess it must be part of the "smartest man in the room pretending to be the dumbest man in the room" thing.

Loved this from start to finish. Norm completely hijacked the interview, but in a totally brilliant way.

how does Smerch not know that the Fish joke is coming?

Merchant completely sandbagged it too.

Yes, it's definitely that. He's read a hell of a lot, and I'm quite sure I remember him admitting that he plays at being the fool, saying that he does it because "nobody likes the smart guy."

BakedMints

He used to have a book club on twitter.

I also vaguely remember this.

Great! Seems a bit stilted, but still some cracking moments.

"When they had too much bandwidth and they had to start charging.."

"...Was that a thing?"

"...bandwidth"

Puce Moment

America really is embracing the suit and sneakers look, isn't it?

Has a weird Idiocracy feel to it, like it's the future.

I wonder if Fallon will ever laugh genuinely at something he finds funny. He laughs like someone judging a children's joke competition.

BakedMints

One hour after watching the Jimmy Fallon interview I realized that he probably only commented on the size of Trump's hands because of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ap8PlPahYks

I just noticed that a banner pops up saying 'Pre-Order Norm's Book at normmacdonald.com' right when he says that he doesn't like books.  I'm going to enjoy rewatching these.

I think it was because during the republican primary debates, Marco Rubio and DJ Trump had some back and forth about his hands. Rubio made some comment about him having weird little hands, and Trump responded that he in fact had big beautiful hands, the best hands, and then went on to point out that this also means that he has a big penis. An utterly remarkable discussion in a presidential debate.

Edit: Here you go. It wasn't in a single debate, it was a back and forth over a week or so.

In response to the bit about Norm reading or not reading, has anyone listened to this interview with him?

http://teamcoco.com/content/norm-macdonald-team-coco-podcast-137

I don't really understand the intricacies of American telly but I think this is some staffers from Conan O'Brien interviewing him and he seems unusually relaxed and open, and he talks a lot about books and that.

Christ fuck. When I caught sight of "found dead ... Norm Macdonald" at the top of my Google search for Norm, I spasmed under my duvet.[nb]I know better than to say "I made a sudden jerking movement" in these parts.[/nb]

Turns out it was something that was reported two days ago about a son of his friend (who was house-sitting at Norm's home): http://www.tmz.com/2016/09/16/norm-macdonald-drug-overdose-son-friend/.

Man, the first twenty-five minutes or so of this compilation are the Rosetta Stone of Normness.  They answer so many questions.  Stop making sense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDji8i1jrWY

Shit-flavoured ice cream.

Johnny Textface

Not to put a downer on his return but he looked a little ill to me. Shaky, deep breaths, coughing, losing his train of thought. There were alot of edits in that too. Really hope he's ok.

Sin Agog

Downer's the right word because he seems to be a wee bit addicted to them, which is prob why he seemed a little slurrier than usual here.  Listen to the last two interviews in that link I posted above and you'll swear the speed's all fucked up.  Also, despite the sort of straight-edge persona he sometimes assumes, didn't Todd Glass mention in their ep that they were getting high right before their show, only for Norm to tell him to shush?  Heh, he's such a weirdo silly-billy.

God I fucking love Norm, the joke at the end was magnificent. He even has a sly dig at Derek if you listen from around the 10:05 mark when he starts talking about shit British comedy, looks like there's a cut straight after as well so doubt it went down too well.

He was a bit slow and slurry but then he pops xanax like smarties so not too surprising he sometimes sounds like that.

So glad this is back.

He made it even funnier.

I disagree. All I could think when I heard it on Stern was 'youre doing it wrong!!' He told it so much better on NML.
I've listened to the original Dirty Johnny bit 3 or 4 times now, I can't get enough of it.
It's just wonderful.

Norm on meeting Donald Trump at Jimmy Fallon's show last week:

QuoteDid you meet him?

Well, what happened was, after the show, he came out and was just standing there. So I said, "Mr. Trump, a picture?" And he said, "You betcha. Just give me a minute." Then he turns and walks down the hall, all the way to the other end, and gets on the elevator. "Just give me a minute," and then he leaves the building. It was hilarious, like a Buster Keaton movie or something.

New one with Bill Hader has appeared on Amazon.

up_the_hampipe

Good episode. Hader was an engaging guest. Lots of great SNL stories, but plenty of record scratch awkwardness from Norm, especially when he criticised Andy Samberg's famous Lazy Sunday sketch. Disappointed they didn't do "Jokes".
