Harry Met Sally is one of my favourite films ever. Its only flaw is when Harry sees his ex-wife in a shop and she shows up and has a brief scene. She should have stayed off-camera, to keep the focus on Harry, Sally, and the two secondary characters. Other than that it is perfection itself.

Not too long ago I got two female friends to watch it for the first time and they both thought Harry was a massive prick. Which I think is very interesting because I, a very handsome man, think he's very funny and charming.

Interestingly they both misinterpreted the scene where Harry sees Sally in the airport but doesn't recognise her. They both thought he did recognise her and was just taunting Sally. I ended up persuading them that he wasn't pretending, but... well, weird, huh?

It would be pretty in keeping with the movie's general themes if men and women generally have radically different interpretations of the film. Does it reveal some innate difference between men and women? Or does it merely explain why I'm single?
