Out of interest @popcorn, were you the sole survivor, upon completion of the game or did you save Barry and/or Chris as well?

On note, my Gamecube version was actually bugged and it was not possible to get all three? discs or whatever in the lab in order to save Chris as Jill so was never able to get that ending.

How unfortunate that Chris perished not due to any B.O.W. bugs but due to a software bug.  Thankfully I didn't run into that bug when playing the game on my Gamecube, back in the day.  Also, yes; there are indeed three MO disks.

I saved Chris, that big waste of space. Didn't know it was an optional ending thing, it's just how things went down.

Barry got bummed by the tyrant.

It's how he would have wanted to go out.

Ferris

It's how we all want to go out. Imagine the funeral.

I've all played a Resident Evil game none of you lot have.

Today I went to Joypolis, the big Sega arcade/amusement attraction place in Tokyo, and it turned out to have a spooky scary ghost house thing based on Resident Evil 7. So we done it.

The premise is that you're on an urban exploration adventure to the Baker house led by the host, who has a camcorder shooting one of the tapes you find in the game. It was all done in Japanese so I couldn't follow everything, but the leader was  enthusiastic and funny and seemed to enjoy her work. Occasionally we had to make decisions based on group vote (watch the tape? turn on the lamp? pull the fireplace lever? etc), which triggered various ghoulish events. The most interactive bits involved searching a room for a key and figuring out a door code by finding numbers in the room. It was all a bit too much for one lad, who had to be escorted out quite early on.

I was surprised at how much it drew from RE7. Features I recognised included the painting with the person with the hood over their head, the telephone Zoe calls you on, the fireplace with the hidden lever in it, the kitchen full of pots of grim business, and finding a VHS tape and watching it on a telly (it played a generic edit of various bits from the RE7 tapes). The Bakers knocked on windows and shouted and did assorted other spooky things.

For the finale we were chased by the matriarch Baker into a room and killed in some manner I did not really understand, leading to a bad ending. The host explained that we had made some bad choices along the way and encouraged us to try again. This was closer to the design of RE1 than RE7, which is to say it was unfair and random and everyone in this thread would have loved it.

Bits of tat in the gift shop.

Got this in case of boss battle.

Are you allowed to bring your own firearms, or are they provided for you?

Consider me envious.  As a kid, I did go to Alien War in Piccadilly Circus, back when it was open.  It was one of the greatest experiences in my life.  They constructed the sets from actual movie-used props.  The terrifying mood was only slightly let down when my Sister kicked an alien in the shin and it said "ouch!".

Someone I knew - coincidentally my boss at the game company I talked about earlier in the thread - said he did that Alien experience thing and when the alien turned up a small girl burst into tears, and rather than breaking character the space marine swept her up into their arms heroically and blasted away at the alien, like Ripley at the end of Aliens. I'd really like it to be true but 1) surely children small enough to burst into tears were unlikely to be allowed in and 2) were there not "stop the ride, I want to get off" procedures to follow for this sort of thing?

Isn't that essentially what that was?

Well, I was 11 years old when I went, so I think that it was mostly left to parents discretion, as to whether their children were capable of handling the experience or not.  I think that the marine actor did the right thing.  It would be wrong to break the immersion for everyone else by stopping everything.

I don't know. Seems like quite a dangerous way to deal with a terrified child.

Although I suppose the presence of a terrified child might only improve the verisimilitude of the experience, I reckon I'd rather the marine and alien said "hang on a pop everyone, sorry!" and escorted them to a fire exit. I think the kids gotta come first tbh.

That would ruin the experience for everyone else though.  It's the parents fault if they misjudged their child's ability to handle the experience, in my opinion.  If a child gets onto a roller coaster and bursts into tears half way through, then the staff aren't going to stop the ride and get a lift-crane to retrieve the distressed child, before resuming things for the other patrons.  Besides, presumably the parents could have quietly taken their child back to the entrance, if they so desired.

Furthermore, experiencing fear within a safe environment is arguably a positive thing for a child, psychologically speaking.  Wrapping them up in cotton wool, isn't going to do them any favours, in terms of preparing them for the adult world.

In a roundabout way, yes.  Children would be far safer in the clutches of a xenomorpth.

RE2 Remake trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtxJtQa6VSw

Looks great. Spooky and camp in appropriate quantities. Lovely models.

Strange how seeing zombies in this context - stumbling around in shopping malls and police stations, Romero-style - suddenly feels fresh, compared to the way they've been used in the last decade (running through post-apocalyptic cities while sinister banjos play). The circle of life.

Ferris

Far too scary. Will avoid.

bgmnts

This better not be Leon only. I only saw Claire for a millisecond in that trailer. I want two scenarios.

To be honest, they really should have just done REmake but for Resi 2. That would have been perfect. Imagine how insane pre rendered textures would look nowadays, with the fixed camera.

It looks okay though; I wonder how much it will deviate from the original. This game has been in the pipeline for a good long while now so hopefully it doesnt disappoint.

magval

Looks reeeeal fuckin' good, that does.

Bhazor

Leon not bishy enough. It also better have classic mode with fixed cameras.
