Solo Lou?

1. Street Hassle
2. The rest of his songs

Artie Fufkin

I seriously *adore* Satellite Of Love. Bowie is amazing on it.
I must admit, I'm only really familiar with Transformer, so I'll guess I'll have to say 9 other songs from that album....?
Vicious is great.

For me it's far and away his best album. I'd probably have chosen more from it but I wanted to 'represent' his other 'eras'

grassbath

I'm not familiar with a huge amount of his discography (only know Transformer in its entirety), but 'Street Hassle' is incredible. First heard it when it's used at the end of Squid and the Whale where Jesse Eisenberg runs to the museum, and it perked up my ears immediately - 'what is this?!' There's just something so evocative about that opening string riff, if it ever comes on I'm so grabbed by that alone I have to listen to the whole thing.

Serge

1. Metal Machine Music (Side 1)
2. Metal Machine Music (Side 4)
3. Metal Machine Music (Side 3)
4. Metal Machine Music (Side 2)
5. The rest.

Are you crazy, man??  Side 3's terrible!

Dunno if this is generally thought to be the case or due to my idiocy but, until recently, I believed that Transformer was Lou Reed's debut solo album. Fascinating, huh?

Yeah, I'd known Lou's solo stuff for years but had never come across this. I think someone chose it for one of those Back To Mine/ Late Night Tales compilations and it was on in Piccadilly Records one day and it just sounded incredible. Still seems to be one of his lesser known 'hits'.

To be fair, I can't remember the last time I actually read anything in a music magazine or online about his actual debut album - I suspect it's a bit like Kraftwerk not ever mentioning they did three albums before 'Autobahn'[nb]Four if you count the Organization album.[/nb], or Bjork's 'Debut' not actually being her debut - it's a work that the artist feels they've moved on from and doesn't ever really want to talk about.

One off man mental

1. She's My Best Friend
2. The Blue Mask
3. I'm So Free
4. Caroline Says II
5. Satellite of Love
6. Coney Island Baby
7. Men of Good Fortune
8. Andy's Chest
9. Waves of Fear
10. I Love You Suzanne

"If you've managed to listen past side three, then you're dumber than I am" L Reed.

The Ocean (VU version better, but his versions still good)
Kicks
Coney Island Baby
Hanging Around (is it a veiled dig at Bowie?)
I Wanna Be Black
Kill your Sons
How Do You Think It Feels
Sally Can't Dance (lyrically a very dark song, but you can dance to it)
Small Town (ok, so it's Lou and John)
Dirt

wosl

I can manage seven:

WOTWS
Perfect Day
Satellite Of Love
How Do You Think It Feels
Ennui
Coney Island Baby
Rooftop Garden

Kicks is enjoyable too, but very daft.

Sparers

Ooh, I'll play. Not in order though.

Coney Island Baby
Street Hassle
Vicious
Intro-Sweet Jane from Rock 'n' Roll Animal. Is that cheating?
The Blue Mask
She's My Best Friend
Fly Into The Sun
Ladies Pay
Animal Language. Lester Bangs interview discussing this tune is great.
Wild Child
Ride Into The Sun

Got carried away there. Thought I was making a tape. It's all good, nothing bad.

Nice to see another selection from Sally Can't Dance. The first side of that album is some of my favourite Lou, altho' many think it's naff, commercial.
