iPhone 7

The jet black version of the iPhone 7 and 7 plus gets scratched really easily, apparently.  Even Apple urges customers to quickly shove it in a case to protect it.

Great, innit.  Something that uses a premium look and feel as its main selling point:  instantly seal it in a case, mate.

I just updated my iOS software for the first time since getting my iPhone 6 two years ago. Feels like I've got a whole new phone.

Anyone iOssers found the hidden My Little Pony porn in the latest update?

http://metro.co.uk/2016/09/15/nsfw-apples-imessage-has-a-new-gif-feature-that-may-ruin-your-childhood-6129729/

The big question is; why does a pony have underwear on in the first place?

Replies From View

Wonderful that they've made the pony look terrified, distraught and totally bereft of hope as she slides her knickers up and down.  The animators have certainly done their porn research.

biggytitbo

...and I never did get that pony.

Cloud

That's actually a 'clean' version of the gif...

Is it better than my phone, the Galaxy 7?

The second camera in the ip7+ is vastly inferior. Its a F2.8 non OIS piece of crap..
Apple really are taking the 9iss with this iteration..

Why did I click on that My Little Pony link and scroll all the way down? I think I need some time away from the internet.

I didn't really think too much about the 'not listening to music while charging phone' thing (because I'm usually doing one or other, not both at the same time[nb]also, I'm perfectly happy with my Galaxy S6 Edge +. Yes, it's not waterproof, but I'm unlikely to die in a ball of flames either[/nb]). But was discussing this with my wife, and she said, 'So I can't listen to music in the car while I'm charging it? But that's the only time I use it to listen to music ...'  Ding. Another sale lost.

You just need this handy device. Then remember to take it everywhere with you.

Uncle TechTip

That's alright, just buy one for every location you could ever possibly be in for more than five minutes. That's what they're hoping a non-zero number of people will do?

I've realised that a firm shove might make these headphones pop out of your ear and drop on the floor (or into the gap between the platform and the train). Where does shoving occur? Fucking trains mate.

Who thinks we'll be seeing products that are essentially the tech version of the string that holds old people's glasses around their necks?

Repeater

That adapter is like a Cinco product.

Twed

I don't think that picture is real.

I reckon some clever clogs will end up inventing something like this:

I'm assuming that the second part of it can be directly plugged in to the phone for when you're out and about, and the bit with two ports is for when you want to charge and listen at the same time while sat at home/at the office. It's pretty similar to the (£60!) adapter for the USB-C-only MacBook, so I can well believe it's real. As inelegant and ugly as fuck as it is, I think that's what their solution to this problem is going to be.

Repeater

Look at the fucking state of it. Hilarious. Glad i ditched my iPhone at 6

A cable that comes out of the headphones and plugs into the phone? That's a great idea that Apple should try.

Apparently according to reviews, Airpods are as good at audio as their standard earphones. That's hardly worth of any praise, because those are fucking shit. Tinny and as leaky as fuck as any commuter knows. Apple's greatest crime unto the world, greater than grand tax avoidance, greater than Foxconn suicides, is packing their shite headphones with their devices.

I do actually use wireless headphones. I bought a cheap blue tooth set, for when I'm out running. They are of the loop variety, and the audio quality is pretty dire, but when out running that isn't the greatest consideration. Frankly, they are a boon, since the wire from my device to the headphones was really awkward, and several times ending up chaffing or getting twisted and pulling and hurting my neck. But I think the Airpods aren't that suitable for exercise use, since they would easily fall out on any even light use. So they basically failing at the single greatest use case for them.

Don't think I've seen it mentioned here, but people have noticed that in place of the missing headphone jack the iphone 7 has a second speaker grill.

But it doesn't have a second speaker. Behind the grill on the left is sod all.

I only recently got the iPhone 6 on a relatively cheap deal with EE for the 64 gig model which suits my needs perfectly after struggling along with a 16 gig 4S for the last 5 years. I really don't see the point in upgrading further than this given the 6s well documented battery issues and all the issues with the 7 that are becoming apparent. The main question that struck me though is surely Apple are flouting some false advertising rules by saying the lowest model is 16 gig when in reality it's actually about 9 gig capacity when alls said and done? Always bugged me that.

Holding it back for the 7S mate.  No point making "under the hood" changes when the stuff under the hood is already decent.

My old iPod Touch had a broken headphone socket, so I've been without one for a long time. I got bluetooth headphones as they were cheaper than a new iPod and they worked ok for podcasts. So poor for music that I stopped listening to music on it altogether.

I eventually got a new iPod Touch, the latest one, and was very glad to have a headphone socket again. The iPod Touch is probably never going to be updated again but if it is and that one doesn't have the socket I'll move onto some other mp3 player. It'll be interesting to see how Apple spins having to put the socket back for their next iteration.

I'm guessing some combination of the OS & "Essential" Apps, finished off by the classic not-actually-gigs way of counting storage that removes over a gig from 16GB before you even start.

So the only time your wife ever listens to music on her iPhone via headphones is in the car, whilst the phone is charging?

It's in the small print – for instance, on Apple's site, it says: "2.Available space is less and varies due to many factors. A standard configuration uses approximately 4GB to 6GB of space (including iOS and built-in apps) depending on the model and settings."

This article looks at the reasons why: http://www.macworld.co.uk/feature/ipad/whats-iphone-ipod-ipads-true-formatted-storage-capacity-3511773/

Also, that link also links to information on Apple's Support Page and also to a new story about a US law suit. As far as I'm aware, the suit was later thrown out but the story does have an illustration about how storage varied across phones.

Not necessarily via headphones, 3mm jack is a pretty common way to[nb]and I can barely believe I'm typing this...[/nb] connect most devices to many different speaker systems. No jack input means my headphones are out, my speakers are out, my PC speakers are out etc etc. Not unreasonable you'd use it to pump audio through the car's system.

Ah, good point - totally forgot about that. In that kind of car set-up though, often some kind of Bluetooth (and inexpensive) kit would be used.
