Apparently it's an old TurboGrafx game. But there's... I can't describe it. Just watch this, it's killing me.

Is that real?  Sounds like two modern-day NERDS recorded it on their laptop mic.

Fry

I think it is real, or at least I really hope it is.

EDIT: Yeah, judging from what I can find on the internet, it's genuine.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

IT WILL BE YOUR BLOOD - Not mine.

I'm convinced the single worst piece of acting I have ever encountered in any medium is the guy that voices the baddie in House Of The Dead 2. Listen to this performance, it's astonishing. It's like he has no familiarity with human speech and is trying it out for the first time in the recording session.

The whole clip is worth watching, it's full of similar gold.

The awkward English dub of Siren is almost endearing by the end of the game, almost.

I can understand having to pander to simpletons but is it really too much to include an option to play a game in its original language?

I know with some Japanese games it's down to complex contractual obligations that are written with domestic markets in mind first and foremost and getting them in foreign releases can be too expensive or not worth the effort. There's also the problem that until relatively recently, storage space was at such a premium that 2 dialogue tracks would not have been feasible.

But I do agree in general, you wouldn't go into a cinema to see a foreign film and instead of subtitles have a bunch of locals dub over everything foreign, so it's a shame some games get short changed in this way. I believe it's a lot better than it used to be, though.

If I remember correctly Siren 2 had a second audio option with the original language.

Hahaha.  It really is quite astonishing how little effort used to go into making it even remotely convincing, isn't it?  Then again, I certainly don't remember playing HotD2 at the arcade as a kid and thinking "Voice acting's a bit dodgy ..."

The thing is, in most arcades you can barely hear the voice acting anyway. I'm sure it was at the bottom of the developer's tick list. I bet most arcade players never even got past the first boss anyway, so wouldn't have been subjected to much of that "quality".
