Absurdly expensive though even at its cheapest for download and I bet it never gets significantly discounted on the eshop. I think of the South Park games as £25-£30 at best. Maybe there are better deals for the cartridge.

Bhazor

I was very disapointed in Stick of Truth. Little more than a compilation of old South Park jokes and references with little to actually say. Put me off touching the new one until a deep sale.

Mario + Rabbids has been on sale at least twice in the eshop – one of the times it was 33% off - within the space of something like three months. I think most of the Ubisoft deals have been 25 or 33% off for Switch eshop titles.

On other Nintendo platforms, there have been 75% discounts on older titles – Ubisoft isn't afraid to cut prices.

Because Ubisoft has a reputation for discounting games, it's one of those publishers that people say only get their games on release if you're desperate to play ASAP.

I'm hearing Labo is something you build, play once and put in the airing cupboard forever. I'm also hearing that from men in their 40s, but either way it's nice it exists, but nah. Like VR it's only really going to catch on if they make it do porn, and even I'm not fucking a cardboard mannequin with a joy con inside what am I saying that sounds indispensable.

Switch Online plans finally revealed.

It includes cloud saves. Paid cloud saves.

https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/

God fucking damn it Nintendo.

But hey at least you'll be able to play online Balloon Fight.

God fucking damn it Nintendo.

madhair60

Same as PS+ innit, but cheaper.

Still hahaha Nintendo behind online curve as usual boo hoo hoo Nintendo fans boo hoooo hahaha

(Nintendo fans dry their tears with BOTW, Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2)

oh

brat-sampson

I don't think I've ever used a cloud save. Some steam games have them, no? Also, yeah, aren't they a ps+ perk too? Nobody's been bitching about that. Otherwise this just looks exactly like what they said originally.

Not really arsed about NES games or online multiplayer either tbh, so might just save myself the money.

I'm unimpressed, but not disappointed.

Bhazor

But you can save Playstation saves to an SD or usb drive. Also the Playstation 4 is not a portable console that can be left on a bus or splashed with water. Meanwhile with PS+ you get free AAA games each of month as opposed to Switch online giving you a dozen 25year old NES games. Most of which aren't even multiplayer.

God fucking damn it Nintendo.

madhair60

NES games are probably better though let's face it.

brat-sampson

I think these versions are multiplayer. They added it in to make better use of the online service. Plus it's like half the price. PS+ game library offerings have definitely gone down in desirability overall over the last few years, and that's speaking as someone who's subbed for the games.

I'm not going to defend it, and don't want to come across like 'this thing is fine because it doesn't affect me', but I do wonder what % of people bother to physically back up ps4 saves, or would regularly maintain a separate SD card for switch saves (as if you're worried about loss or theft, your main card's going with it. Damage is another thing.) Or even how many people wouldn't have been interested in the online service if cloud saves weren't included, as opposed to being likely to sub for the games/multiplayer and ending up with it anyway. Etc. I'm more annoyed with them locking multiplayer behind the wall than cloud saves.

I'm sure people would appreciate free cloud saves as a nice bonus, but seeing as the whole online service is going to be buy in only, it's a simple extra perk to offer. They should probably allow manual backup for those that want it too I suppose.

madhair60

I think it's outrageous that online is paid on consoles, full stop. We should have never let them get away with Xbox Live.

Kelvin

I expected it to be shit and they haven't disappointed.

Where are the snes games? I assume they'll make us pay for those individually on top of this. Nes games are nearly all shit by modern standards, so this doesn't even offer the most basic perk so far as I'm concerned.

Nintendo hedging their bets about the EU there.

Until they include SNES it's pretty rubbish.

I don't think they will include SNES games. The price is already so low, I can't imagine they'll see any need to throw their most popular classic games into it, on top of the 20+ NES games. My guess is that SNES, N64 and Gamecube games will soon start appearing as standalone titles to buy on the eshop.

Fuck SNES where the hell is the Gamecube and Wii?

Kelvin

It's not even all the NES games, it's just the Nintendo published ones. So series like Megaman, Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden almost certainly won't ever be part of the service, and will also be sold separately (or not at all). We already know Megaman collection is being released later this month on eshop.

Bhazor

No virtual console on Switch.

https://kotaku.com/virtual-console-is-not-coming-to-switch-nintendo-says-1825848253

QuoteIn the wake of news that the Nintendo Switch's online subscription service will include a Netflix-like library of NES games, fans have been wondering: Is the Virtual Console coming back? The answer to that question is no, according to Nintendo.

"There are currently no plans to bring classic games together under the Virtual Console banner as has been done on other Nintendo systems," a Nintendo spokesperson told Kotaku in an e-mail late last night.

That doesn't mean Nintendo plans to ignore its older games on the Switch, but it does mean that there won't be a dedicated brand for the classics. Nintendo's previous three gaming consoles, the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U, each had their own versions of the Virtual Console, a branded shop with a limited selection of classic games from the NES, the Super Nintendo, the Nintendo 64, and other platforms. You could buy and download Virtual Console games piecemeal, then play them on your new console with some extra features, like save states.

Although the library was fragmented and hard to keep track of—Final Fantasy VI, for example, is inexplicably only available on the Wii—the Virtual Console proved appealing to Nintendo fans who wanted to play or re-play entries in the company's massive classic library, drumming up excitement every week as players waited to see which old games Nintendo would add to the store next.

"There are a variety of ways in which classic games from Nintendo and other publishers are made available on Nintendo Switch, such as through Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo eShop or as packaged collections," the Nintendo spokesperson said. "Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online will provide a fun new way to experience classic NES games that will be different from the Virtual Console service, thanks to enhancements such as added online play, voice chat via the Nintendo Switch Online app and the various play modes of Nintendo Switch."

Nintendo. Mate. Fuck.

Who ever keeps buying this shit at $10 a pop needs to stop because this is feeding some atrocious practices. God fucking damn it Nintendo. You had the generation in the palm of your hand and you went and wanked it off.

Kelvin

Clearly trying to get the bad news out there ahead of E3 next month.

I actually think a tiered system would be better, with this being the basic package, but an option to pay more (even up to another £30 a year), for the ability to play SNES, N64, Gamecube and Wii games.

Beagle 2

Would it have killed them to at least sling some Gameboy games in there as well?

I dunno man. I'll buy the goddamn Gamecube and Wii games as well, I haven't owned a Nintendo home console in twenty years. Even if you are going to charge $10 for the rest, hurry the fuck up about it and get them out there, I nearly bought Stardew Valley last night for the sake of fuck.

Jobey

They've gucked it.

Even old GB and GBA games could have sweetened the deal.

Been a crap Switch year so far.

Yes, it really has. Maybe wouldn't feel so bad if I hadn't played half of the games on Wii U, I suppose.

Then, starting in June, there's like a month of big titles being released in close proximity; Octopath Traveller, Wolfenstein 2, Mario Tennis Aces, and Captain Toad (which I never played, so I'm a hypocrite), all of which I want to get, but which come out right on top of each other.

madhair60

It would appear that Nintendo are, once again, doomed.

Kelvin

In other news, Nintendo Labo doesn't seem to have been a hit, at least in the UK. Variety kit has already fallen out of top 10 (it was 3rd, now 14th), and Robot Kit has fallen out of the top 40 entirely!
