Watching the Indie World thing last night I realised that yeah the bigger indie games (read: the ones that get on console) are at a bit of an impasse, there's so much that's fiercely derivative of other successful indies and so much aaaaahhh ahhhhhhhhaaaaaahahhhhh choral ooh-isn't-this-ethereal music, and all of it can fuck itself now. Also Ori is shit.

Crabwalk

Does anyone know of a game on the Switch where you can drive vehicles about and smash them up by going off ramps and stuff like that? Ideally with simple controls and no race mechanic.

My son loves watching poorly rendered CGI vehicles doing this sort of shit on YouTube. I used to love smashing cars up on those Burnout bonus rounds so I can't judge him too harshly.

Crabwalk

Thanks Madhair, that looks a great shout. It really does look fucking dreadful but he won't care,

Mebbe smesh oop yer telleh.

Wow this thread is coming up to 100 pages. That's disgraceful quite frankly, should have got there 2 years ago.

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

My left joycon has palsy and it's out of warranty. Anyone replaced the analog stick with one of those kits from Amazon? It looks fiddly, but I'm up for a challenge. The free repair thing they've got going in America doesn't seem like happening here anytime soon. Fucking quality product Nintendo, well done lads.

If it's stick drift, look up a tutorial for that. The overwhelming likelihood of the actual physical stick being the problem is close to nil. It'll be some contact on the circuit board or possibly a microswitch issue if it's actually related to the physical mechanisms of the stick. I don't know how much you know about this stuff but from reading your post there it seems like you probably get a car that's failed its MOT on emissions and you put a baked potato in the exhaust thinking it will solve the problem.

That will kill you, as will changing the analogue stick.

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

Yes it's stick drift. Get bent with saying it's not a mechanical intrinsic problem with the stick mechanism though. Haven't you heard about the graphite strip getting worn down and no longer making contact properly?

https://www.nintendoenthusiast.com/2019/04/05/switch-owner-with-engineering-background-discovers-joy-con-drift-design-flaw/

That's what I'm referring to. Yeah. Good luck with it. Try the suggestions before replacing the stick, I know loads of people who've fixed. Fucked up from Nintendo though.

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

Electrical contact cleaner is doing the trick at the moment, albeit temporarily. I'm hoping we get free repairs before it's totally knackered though. Disconnecting all those little ribbons looks fiddly.

Good man. Fingers crossed it stays sorted.

Fry

I've fixed 3 so far myself (two for me, one for my girlfriend). Got the specialist screwdrivers and replacement joysticks for about 10 quid. It was relatively easy, to be honest. Once you take the case apart everything either screws in or slips in under tabs. If you watch a few videos and you can get it done within 30 minutes the first time. It can be a bit fiddly with the tiny flat ribbon cables though, I recommend not biting your fingernails beforehand.

I've had a my Switch since day one and apart from the left Joycon stuff where the Bluetooth doesn't work if your leg order nob are in the way, zero issues with the mechanical stuff. That said, it's appalling QA from Nintendo to have so many issues. Fuck the Switch and the Switch 2.

On another note, a load of new SKUs have been kind of leaked for 31st December release. That always indicates a load of new announcements and always comes with a Direct. We've had a Switch Direct every September so we can expect same again for Q4 releases and some new announcements. Given that announcement of the official SNES controller patent a few weeks ago, it seems very likely that SNES games are coming to Online. Few people are saying there's going to be a booster charge for SNES stuff.

Anyway, that's all the Switch news.

I presume SNES is coming as we're coming up to the 1 year anniversary of Switch Online and Nintendo are bricking it people will let their subscriptions lapse.

Fucked if I'm paying extra for SNES games though. The NES stuff has been the absolute bare minimum Nintendo could get away with.

I'd happily pay for SNES games, about six or nine games which are still great. It's the NES that is bifida tier shit now.

Your new ratings system is even more confusing that the last.

CarBoys on youtube is essentially this, but for an extended period of time. One of the hosts was #canceled for poorly explained reasons though so it might not still be out there.

Alternatively, you could get the underlying game they play (BeamNG.drive) and have your own, non-#canceled fun.

Is there a game other than Zelda worth investing in a Switch for, as someone who isn't arsed about anything Mario?

Preferably something that makes use of its innovations and exclusive to the console.

Kelvin

Shit Smash DLC character, but happy to hear they have more in development. Looking forward to trying Banjo later, as well.

Worried they're showing too much of Luigi's Mansion and Link's Awakening. Those aren't going to be long games. Look great, though.

Be easier if you tell us the types of game you like, so we can say whether the console has any good ones on it. There are tons of great games on Switch, but don't buy it for gritty triple A titles.

20 minutes in and this Direct is boring as fuck.

I like pretty much everything but gritty AAAers. Oh and racing games.

Something with longevity or replayability, how good is the Switch for RPGs or adventure games?

Wow, 20 SNES games launching tomorrow on their online service. That's fantastic.

Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, Mario World, Link to the Past... great line up to launch it with.

brat-sampson

They added SNES to Online. I'm in.

Banjo TODAY

Divinity OS2 TODAY

Deadly Premonition 2 (!!!)

Town later this year with Toby Fox soundtrack

Updated Daemon X Machina demo TODAY

I like this direct.

This seems to tie in with the first renewal date for Nintendo Online early adopters. Smart.

Oof, Xenoblade 1 remake is a little underwhelming for a Final Announcement...
