Can anyone identify this spacey indie tune from the strange youtube video Tara Goes To Space? I've tried googling the lyrics to absolutely no avail.

http://youtu.be/pprnSaH3k-E

Isn't it mentioned at the bottom of the clip: Death Leopard's Drummer by Justice of the Unicorns

To all Funkologists out there, what is the music playing here?

I've tried Soundhound and Shazam. Both turn up nothing.
It sounds like a live recording of some late era Clinton stuff, like the lead up to a song. Might not even be Clinton related... it might even be some shitty royalty free music. I doubt it though.

I'm obsessed with the dirty funk-synth noise. I need to know what its from so I can hear the whole thing properly.

Short answer: I don't know.

Long answer:

I'd be astounded if it isn't. I was certain it was taken from somewhere on this release, but having skimmed through it, that would appear not to be the case. The song it's from isn't immediately obvious either. Sorry.

If we're talking about the same bit of music (from approximately 30s in until 1m20s), then that "dirty funk-synth noise" is almost certainly the trombone stylings of Fred Wesley.

hedgehog90

Thank you alcoholic messiah, this has certainly helped.
I'll check out that album. If I don't find it on there then I should hopefully find something similar.

I'll look into Fred Wesley too. Couldn't believe for a moment that it the sound could be a trombone. Listening to it again though, I can just about imagine it.

Anyone recognise the music used in this episode of How TV Ruined Your Life?

Is it Someone Great by LCD Soundsystem? Would post a youtube link but I'm on my phone, sorry.

In the first Wallace & Gromit short film, A Grand Day Out, there's a lovely bit o' music that I've been unable to identify. I presume it was composed by Wallace & Gromit music man Julian Nott, but I can't find it listed anywhere.

It plays after the main theme shimmies us into the film, tinkling away as the camera pans over Wallace's stack of holiday brochures.

Are you there, Julian Nott? Can you help me?

olliebean

I suspect the music in this promo may have been composed especially for it, but does anyone have any idea who it might be by?

I've got this jungle jazz rhythm in my head and although I'm fairly certain that its pretty popular, I have no damn idea what it is. I've taken the liberty of whistling the bit stuck in my noggin so it's easier for you. Aren't I nice? Here it is:

In this David Lynch-inspired advert for Gu puds, at 0:24, the song that's playing in the creepy room the woman enters. Dreamy, lovely 50s-inspired kind of lounge thing. I've Googled the shit out of the lyrics I can make out but it's no use.

EDIT: never mind, someone asked on Yahoo and it turns out it was composed for the advert. Rats.

Composed specifically for GU by a chap called Sonjay Prabhakar - http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100607130905AAn4YMN

Oh. I actually just sent them an email asking (didn't see your edit). I did think that since the lyrics were completely ungoogleable, that it was likely the music was put together for the ad. Maybe they'll reply with a full version of it, though. [nb]unlikely[/nb]

Subtle Mocking

You could try contacting the composer, he might be able to supply you with a version.

gabrielconroy

Yeah, he has a website which includes that ad on his portfolio - will see what the agency say first. I also like the way it sounds - clearly very deliberately put together to emphasise the Lynchean vibe. It also sounds as though it's been EQd or put through something like SpeakerPhone to make it sound a like a distant record playing, accentuating the dreaminess of it all.

grassbath

Good thinking lads.

Gabriel, see what the agency say and if not we'll contact Sonjay. I hope there's more to the piece than just what's in the advert.

Can anyone help me and my friend's tortured brains please? Mid to late 90's dancy track, possibly french. Was a summer song, but didn't recognise it in Wikipedia's number 1 lists, was definately popular though. Video was about 2 guys and a girl on a road trip with several sexy bits like joint showers. Not even sure it was a good song, but this is almost as annoying as trying to track down that Whitetown one hit wonder based only on fuzzy memories of the black and white video (Your Woman if you have the same problem.) Cheers.

DrGreggles

There's a stripped down version of Bowie doing 'Sound & Vision' on an ad at the moment.
Any idea what album that's on?

That composer we mentioned a few posts up? He did that song, too.

It's probably http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzpCcNdhy5w. Your memory of 'several sexy bits' is misplaced, I'm afraid.

Thank you, that's the one. Just hope I don't half remember a catchy song anytime soon. It's hell.

Sort of a reverse query, this one. This piece of music:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reKSk3gMZDw

(Tambourin by Gossec)

was the theme of a children's programme when I was a child, so probably in the mid-to-late 70s, but possibly earlier I suppose. The tune has stayed very clearly in my memory, but I can't for the life of me remember what the programme was. Any takers?

Having just unearthed this classic old thread while doing this post , I clicked on your link to see if I could help, only to find myself in exactly the same position, you git!  However, I thought it was radio rather than television.

So... I googled.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Up_to_the_Hour

QuoteUp to the Hour was a programme on BBC Radio 4 that ran from May 1977 to June 1978. There were two editions every weekday morning, each 25 minutes long and finishing at 7am and 8am respectively (hence the title). Both parts were followed by the Today programme, which during this period was also broadcast in two parts.

The original theme tune was Tambourin by François Joseph Gossec, performed by James Galway.

Not a children's show, but could this have been it?

I'm trying to remember the name of a black American guitarist singer-songwriter chap who was most famous (I think?) in the 60s/70s. I don't think he's dead yet but you never know. I remember reading he was well known for tapping his foot furiously during his performances.

Specifically he did a song called "We Both Know", maybe 10-15 years ago, that I'm trying to find. It was just a vocal and a lot of urgent guitar strumming, maybe a violin or something? There seem to be billions of songs with that title and lyric though.

e: right, did that thing where I spent about 30 minutes googling and then seconds after asking online I found it. It was Richie Havens.
