Was my first time tonight really on a proper walk, I dont actually know the pokemon i'm catching i'm so out of touch. I caught a Swablu and two Carvanhas.

There's millions of them, I'd no idea either, now I'm working on becoming an expert haha. Swablu is nice to collect, 400 candies to evolve but they're everywhere. And there's a shiny Swablu as well, so watch out for that. Did you pick a starter? If you keep walking away you can get pikachu, but I guess you're past that and not yet in a team. Go Valor ;-)

bgmnts

No i'm not in a team or anything i dont think I guess I have progress more. I'll let you know when i get there!

king_tubby

Yeah, account sharing is cheating, and you'll get binned off if they realise/someone reports you.

Happens all the time, mind.

king_tubby

Also FUCK VALOR, MYSTIC FTW

Barry Admin

Hehe, Valor for life! I suppose his best bet is to look at the local gym scene, and see if he wants to join whoever is dominant, or pick an underdog team so he has more to do.

Just reading up about Rayquaza, obviously not going to spend any TM's until he leaves next Friday evening, in case I get a better one. 2083 cp is the 100% IV one. I'll change my best one to dragon moves, specifically Outrage for sure, as my two Dragonites don't have that because of the community day event.

Quote from: gamepressDragon Tail should be paired with Outrage, as the Dragon set has wider neutral coverage than the Flying set.

Air Slash should be paired with Aerial Ace to exploit Flying's advantage over Bug, Fighting, and Grass types.

Ancient Power is not a good investment for Rayquaza.
Rating Explanation:
Rayquaza, the master of Kyogre and Groudon, has arrived. With its arrival, it assumes the place of best Dragon-type attacker and a top generalist attacker. Your Dratini-chasing days weren't in vain, though, as Dragonite doesn't fade into obscurity; it's a decent gym defender, not far behind Rayquaza in offensive prowess, and easier to get en masse than Rayquaza, who demands oodles of Rare Candy.

Fun fact: Rayquaza also becomes the top Flying-type attacker with its double Flying moveset, although there isn't much to do with that combo in the current meta.

I've never really paid any attention to the movesets, does it make a big a difference?

I've got a bunch of Rhydons that rip through all the gyms here pretty rapidly.

Yeah, I think it does, depending on what you want to do. Like I want the challenge of being able to solo tier 4 raid bosses, or even just - at the minute - certain Machamp and Alazkazam bosses, which can be a nightmare depending on which movesets they have. I went up against a Blissey today (as usual), and was thrilled he only had psychic. Dazzling Gleam turns that pink tank into a fucking wrecking crew unless you dodge it.

It's all down to how you want to play though, and how deep you want to get into it. I love learning new things and figuring out systems, so I always want to get right down to the most technical level. It really keeps me engaged with the game, and as mentioned, lets me set myself certain goals to shoot for.

At the minute I'm trying to get far better acquainted with typing and counters, and also really need to remember about weather boosts. Grazzing gyms seems to have got a lot more popular now, so aiming to take a gym down as quickly as possible can either mean you spend less time and potions, or might even mean the difference between winning and losing, as hopefully they won't have time to respond.

Rhydon is still great, especially if you don't have a Groudon to fill the ground type role. Man did I want to get a Groudon, looks so frigging cool too.

Barry Admin

Out of interest, do you TM your guys to switch moves for STAB (same type attack bonus)?

Hobo

Always something new to learn. I didn't know about STAB going to go through my Mons now and optimise movesets.

Barry Admin

There really is, there's a lot to it. I just used a Fast TM on both of my Exeggutors (one is 100% iv), they had extrasensory the psychic move. They both have bullet seed now, so they're grass specialists to go against ground, rock and water pokeys.

I actually wanted the psychic move confusion on them, but didn't realise it was legacy. Some moves get phased out, so when trading finally comes in I'll be looking for one with that, and a Gengar with shadow claw.

king_tubby

Heh, I've only ever managed to get one move change thingy, so not investigated the advantages.

I don't think they'll ever implement trading as it would be so rife for abuse.

Now I'm level 38 my lead Dragonite is over 3.5k CP. BEAST. I need to investigate what else I should power up as I've got 900,000 stardust burning a hole in my phone.

Barry Admin

Damn that's a shit ton of dust. I popped 3 lucky eggs last night, hit level 33, and am back down to like 5 dust.

TM's have been dropping pretty regularly for me from legendary raids, even one of each the other day from the same raid.

Anyone had anything interesting yet from the (ahem) windy eggs? I've got three 10km event eggs in my inventory now, leaving those and working through the 2's and 5's in the hope of more 10s.

7 days 10 more hours of double XP left btw! I'm planning on going to the Ex raid with my mate tomorrow, weigh in with some moral support for Valor and get a look at Mewtwo in action. More invites went out, be sure to check your inventory.

Barry Admin

Btw, I had another look at damage mechanics last night; STAB is a 1.2 multiplier, and weather assisted boost is also a 1.2 multiplier, and bonuses stack. Then there's the traditional weaknesses and even double weaknesses and stuff, so eg normal type (Blissey) is weak to Fighting (Machamp) for a start. Then if he has counter/dynamic punch he gets STAB as they're fighting moves.

Anyway yeah, really helps, good to know for raids too so you can get your damage ball.

king_tubby

I got a Bagon with enough candies to evolve to a Shelgon from a 10km at the start of the event. I've also had a load more 10km in the last few days than usual, but the first two to hatch have both been fucking Mareep.

Barry Admin

Congrats on the Bagon and candies, that's what we're all after innit, I've only caught one in the wild so far.

Edit: can hardly move today, it took me 2 fucking hours to walk 2.5kms. I really hope I can still get to the ex raid tomorrow for the craic.

Hobo

10k eggs seem to be dropping a lot more regularly during the event, I'm going to try leaving a phone on PoGo when I go horse riding at the weekend - not sure if I'll be travelling too fast for it to count.

Building a squad for soloing Alakazam, seriously tempted to use my last Fast TM on that 96 Scizor. That'd give him the two best bug moves for psychic, dark and grass types. Follow up with my two new Tyranitars with Bite/Crunch. I'll have to fill the party out with two Pinsirs and a Houdoom who only have one relevant move each. Then a backup squad of Gengars.

Should be enough? Alakazams with Focus Blast can one hit you if you don't dodge it, mind, so that could really fuck up my shit if he has that moveset.

Edit: done it, Fury Cutter/X-Scissor, need dust to power him up more though, but those are his highest DPS moves against those three types I mentioned. These raids this week have really helped me turn a lot of my best guys into specialists. They used to give TM's away far more frequently at the start but I missed it. Some guy in our team has like 99 of each still.

Barry Admin

The two local tier 3 raids I was preparing for popped as weather boosted Aerodactyls. Got the first one with 10 seconds to spare and caught him with a pinap first go, but the second one had Ancient Power and cleaned my clock three times. Even with pretty good dodging early on, it just wasn't enough. Forgot to pop my lucky egg until after I'd done the first one too. My Mum is a star for driving me round and waiting on the way to her house for dinner. You can imagine I have her head turned with Pokemon.

Btw the first one had Iron Head for his charge move, does hardly any damage compared to Ancient Power.

Barry Admin

The fights over who is getting gym control tomorrow for the ex raids has begun :-) just been reading screencaps of the local groups, hilarious. "Would anyone object if Instinct took gym control?" Yeeeeep.

Barry Admin

Managed to get a lot of very slow playing done, been loving it. Got a much better Machamp evolved, 14/14/14 in attack, defence and hp, I'm building a squad of them as they're so useful. Had two 10k eggs in super incubators and they popped during a raid, I got a guy to hatch them for luck, he goes what do you want, I said Bagon. Boom, Bagon with 23 candies (although worse than the 84 I caught, still, candies), and then he asked again for the second egg, and I said Feebas, boom, my first fucking Feebaa, yaaas.

Then I saw a guy get a perfect Rayquaza in a raid, two popped at once, this was his first Ray, and he threw it away. Didn't get it. I've got 10 of them now, 87 IV and 14 attack on the best two, shooting for 15 attack before I power one up. He leaves on Friday night don't forget.

Managed to get a local raid done yesterday for an Absol, 89 IV and I'm really glad to have it done, it looks so frigging cool, I'm gonna power it up and TM it to dark moves just because I love it.

Met a couple of players in Stormont also yesterday, really good people, we stood nattering for ages.

Having loads of fun with it at the moment. You lot getting any raids done? I aim to do one or two each day now like.

Edit: oh yeah, guy who turned up for the Absol raid had three phones haha. I had been worried about duoing Absol but hoped we'd get it done.

Hobo

I got my Ex-Raid done on Saturday, and a Charizard on sunday (the wife doesn't have one, and still doesn't - I think her account is jinxed).

My 65 year old father in law started playing too and is now happy to walk around the local parks with his phone. He wouldn't be doing that if it wasn't for the game. He travels a lot on business so he'll soon have the worldwide exclusives too the jammy get.

At the ex-raid. I caught my third Mewtwo. Its 93 IV and 14 Att,15 Def ,13. It's the best of the three so far.

I've got 9 Rays, the best being 97.8% (15,15,14) but I wanted to make a 3k club (6 different mons all over 3k) and spaffed all my stardust and candy on an inferior one.

We have a Raid register system on Whatsapp where each raid is listed and people express an interest and a time, it takes the spontaneity out of it but guarantees there are enough people so you have a chance of catching the buggers.

Barry Admin

Nice work! My friend caught his first Mewtwo and it sounds like it's 80. I can register for raids on discord, but I've been mostly using the Valor one which is tailored towards the city centre. Getting people for local raids can be a bit more challenging although I've not been trying much. I'm sure that'll be easier when the new legendary drops, but town is the place to be anyway, loads more fun.

king_tubby

Still no raids for me. Hatched one of those robot fucks today from a 10km so I can evolute him/her/it up a bit. Also got a shite Aerodactyl. Why they are in 10km eggs is beyond me.

Barry Admin

Ha, I got a hoppip from a 5k yesterday and wasn't pleased. 4 10k eggs stacked up, not touching any more 10s until the event is over.

Raining today, looks like it should be good for Lotads. I really want one fully evolved after seeing his animation, it's wicked.

Mostly it's been cloudy, which can be good for farming Machops. Partly cloudy is great for evolution fodder, as there are pidgeys and whismurs everywhere.

What are you lot working on? I'm just trying to get around as much as I can again, and am working on getting more gold gym badges. Building up a Machamp army still as well, still looking for a really good Makuhita to evolve and power up. And I REALLY want to hatch a good Ralts!

Other than that, I'm enjoying killing Blisseys with my Machamp squad. I hate these guys who always have to drop boring ass Blisseys everywhere.

Hobo

I'm just trying to get in as many gyms as possible to earn cash to make more space in my storage and wait for the new legendaries.

As soon as I hit level 30 I lost a little of the appetite I had, so I've been setting mini targets to keep my interest up (achieved so far: A team of 3k mons, a shiny Gyrados, level 31) The targets I have set now are for a steelix though catching enough Onix is problematic - one appeared at the one stop in my little village at 11 last night so I went out in my pyjamas to get it, but that's the first I've seen this week.

Last weekend I went to Toys R us to see if I could pick up a few bargains for future birthdays for the kids (and maybe a Snorlax soft toy for me) but it wasn't really worth it as prices are still more than they should be even discounted, I did give in to temptation and buy a Set of Pokemon cards out of curiosity. Being 40 it wasn't something from my youth so I've never really seen the card game before.
On the pack was a code to use on the online version of the game, which I downloaded and I've now been playing for the last few nights.
I went back to Toys R us yesterday to see if I could get a play mat or more cards or anything Pokemon really, but it seems they've either sold everything or put them aside as the shelves by the tills were bare.

king_tubby

I'm not really working on anything, I'm at that depressing new level stage where the XP needed for the next leap looks absolutely ridiculous.

Walking a Feebass so I can evolve it to that cool water snake lady.

Cloud

Got out again at the weekend having finally scraped together enough revives to heal my team.  Seems they're dropping a little more again now.  Didn't get much of interest.  All the females of the group were saying they'd "adopted" after this really polite and friendly 12 year old joined up (on departure they asked that he brings some parents next time so they know he's not with a bunch of weirdos.  I said speak for yourself)

Barry Admin

I FINALLY GOT A SHINY FUCKING YAAAAAAAAASSS!!!

Hobo

Shiny what? Poochy?

Barry Admin

Swablu :-)

My Mum was going to Asds, and on a whim I said I'd go with her to spin some stops and maybe catch more Lotad (pissing down still). Asked her to pull in at the local gym so I could grab the Swablu and even said it might be a shiny. It wasn't, but by the time I caught him another spawned, and I finally - after 5800 catches - got my first shiny.  I went fucking mental.

Then on the way home I caught my first Hitmonlee. Still dying for a Hitmontop so I can dance at Pokestops. I've one Tyrogue but haven't even checked what he'd evolve into.

Anyway I was gonna maybe keep my first shiny as is, but the other Valor players are telling me there rule is to get them fully powered up. I've nearly enough candy for a second Altaria, right enough...
