England v Australia here. England did very well to halt the Aussie drive, they did well not to be bowled out. Oz already picked up Roy, Hales and Root, about 40-3 so they're well on top at this point. England bat deep as fuck in this form of the game, though. Morgan and Stokes in, with Buttler and Ali to come. We have the players to knock this off in 40/45 overs. Fascinating stuff. I can't believe Bairstow isn't in the side, though. He's got shots and guts.

Morgan is pretty much treating this cricket ball like a teetering arse.

Mr Eggs

It's been a lovely listen on TMS.

Mr Eggs

This cricket thread was first.

Well South Africa were fucking rubbish after lunch. The fact AB isn't playing is a bit of a disgrace and doesn't bode well for the future of test cricket.

Root today was brilliant after a tentative start. I hope the captaincy doesn't compromise his ability.

Final point, Blowers is retiring from TMS. Surely he's the last great TMS character alive. End of an era when he hangs up the mic. My dear old thing!

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Yes, although I can see Aggers in time becoming a venerable character who people see as a throwback. It's more a reflection on how that generation were allowed to continue indefinitely or until they reached old age/infirmity. There's still Boycott who while not likeable is unmistakably forthright and colourful and Phil Tufnell, while a bit of a lad, has a certain something.

It would be a shame if it ends up like Sky Sports with rather bland ex-pros ladding it up in the commentary box. I must say the choice of Asian commentators they choose are unbelievably boring to listen to.

Not a fan of Tufnell. I can't remember the exact story but he and my dad had a bit of a feud going back in the day - he lived fairly locally and my dad was President or something of a local cricket club.

Needs a bit more refining before it goes in your memoirs.

Eight Taiwanese Teenagers

Pretty sure it was something to do with a brick.

"In 1994, after a tour of the West Indies, he went on a drinking binge and his partner, Jane McEvoy, walked out on him with Ellie. When she refused to let him see Ellie, he slapped her across the face. McEvoy's father exacted revenge by slapping Tufnell in the face with a brick. Tufnell was fined £800 for assault and five days later Michael McEvoy was fined £2,500 for malicious wounding."

I assume McEvoy was an ally of my father.

Bugger all happening in this test now. No one looks like they can be arsed on either side. Mark Wood delivery was so out, whats the point of DRS if it can't over rule decisions like that?

I wish we had a decent spinner that could liven things up.

They continued persistence of not giving Rashid a proper test run is getting tiresome now.

England should win this series comfortably though, the saffers are playing like they really can't be arsed at all and it's only day 2.

Rashid simply isn't good enough, there's the reason. Although the selection of Dawson continues to confound all logic. We don't need another all-rounder (particularly such a mediocre one), there's two in the side already. We need a frontline spinner or 90mph+ short burst merchant, or a left armer I appreciate Woakes would probably be playing if he was fit, but why not pick Crane or Leach given there's apparently ample batting.

Hurray, big win. Surprised how shit South Africa's batting has been.

Nice cricinfo article eviscerating Sri Lankan cricket politics in the wake of Mathews resignation. He never looked like he wanted to do it, but frankly who else is there?

Yesterday we bowled without thought or application and today we batted that way too. This test is already gone for us. Piss poor.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Very loose batting, anyone not playing for Yorkshire want to make a contribution with the bat? There was no need to play Dawson this test, we should have picked a specialist batsman.

I'm booked in for tomorrow at the test. Looks like I'll be watching S.A rubbing in the pain.

Dawson is plops.  Complete fucking plops.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Went today. A difficult, trying day. The most worrying element being the perfunctory and uninspired captaincy. I noticed not one bowling change or field placing, nor motivational moment that struck me as proactive or at all in effort to reverse the slide towards defeat. South Africa were happy grinding their way remorselessly to a sizeable lead and we let them. Stokes was accurate and determined, Anderson unplayable but overly so, Broad and Wood off colour, Ali lucky, Dawson absolute bobbins. Until Amla brainfarted to a short straight ball he was being carted around the park. Philander launched Ali and Dawson later on too.

Losing a wicket at the end would have been the final remaining turd in the sandwich but thankfully we were spared further indignity.

Also, the Trent Bridge crowd were fucking shit.

poo

Guess the total. I'll go for 238.

Mr Eggs

Cook proper out first ball this time.

I think well get bowled out for 473. Dawson to score 213 not out.
