Ah what a brilliant way to end it, bowled to break McGrath's record. Glad Bairstow dropped it now, great way to finish!

4-1 very harsh on India. Excellent series.

It was a good effort  from Rahul and Pant to make a spectacle of it which should ensure both are retained going forward.  Dhawan should be phased out and Rahane can't keep living of past glories, anther poor series for him. Unsure what they can do regarding all rounders when they travel to Australia.

England should have 2 new openers for Sri Lanka and hopefully Rashid is trusted more than he was in this series.

I'd also say on reflection both Kohli and Root are shit captains. Root got away with hiding Rashid today but he is clueless under pressure while Kohli seems obsessed with aggression when it comes to selection and play.

I'm not sure tbh. They have fucked up constantly regarding selection. Bhuvi bowled when half fit in an ODI which ruled him out of the series which was a disgraceful call and his loss was huge.  Pujara probably should have started the series, Dhawn somehow got 5 tests while the fourth test they gambled on a clearly struggling Ashwin. Heck they should have played 2 spinners in the first test also.

England were not perfect either as Ali should have played sooner and Curran was stupidly dropped, but did not make as many mistakes for me.

That Curran dropping is going to look extra silly in a minute as he will surely get man of the series for England (unless they just do an overall one in which case Kohli).

4-1 was richly deserved, only our batting failures and early series fielding gave India a sniff. Mostly where there was a contest it was because we fell to their performance level, not them rising to ours. We mostly had them at arms length and the match scores show that. Their bowlers while good weren't ever as good as ours, some way off being and poor selection didn't give them the best opportunity at each time. The batting outside Kohli has been mainly very poor and cost them. Without him you'd have been looking at scores of barely over 100 in 5/6 innings.

Bad luck losing all the tosses Kohli but that's cricket.

The only reason it feels like it's undeserved is because how mediocre we have been and how we haven't developed but regressed as a batting lineup and in the field. South Africa series was less entertaining but featured a better touring side.

Will Curran be picked for Sri Lanka? Hard to see his grubby hoopers* being much use over there.

*Delightful grubby hoopers

Who should be the spinner after Ali/Rashid? Leach or Bess surely deserve another go.

monolith

Easily the best pace attack they've ever toured here with.

The batting I can't defend (from either team really). If they'd had their usual strength in batting they'd have won every test bar Lords, shame only Kohli turned up until today.

Which even with "easily" thrown in is really not saying much. South Africa's was a step up last year.

Bumrah impressed me actually and I love his run up and attitude. He has way too much fun playing cricket to ever be a long term test player though.

But Shami is no more than Asian Peter Siddle. Manageable most of the time with a few moments. Skilled workhorse, fine, you can drag out several of those in England.

Ishant definitely dangerous in helpful conditions now he has tightened up and reduced his economy, well done, only taken him several years to work it out. Again, of all the bowlers on the scene, wouldn't be shitting it.

Thing touring sides don't realise is that you beat England in England by drying up the runs. The ball is always moving so it creates pressure in that the batsman are scared a good ball os about to get them yet they aren't adding runs to the board. Too often they sent the likes of Aaron who bleeds runs or Kumar who swings the ball but you can bat at a short length too because he's so slow. Top of off has usually worked.

However the main problem is that as soon as you big the bowlers up it draws attention to what was largely below par batting. This certainly was easily not the best batting lineup they have toured with.

I think one of the few things to take away from this series is that India played better in English conditions than England did in Indian. Although the bar wasn't set that high.

Australia v India should be a competitive series, probably leaning more in favour of India as Australia won't be fielding a full strength side.

Sri Lanka v England could be close-ish, obviously England embarrass themselves when the ball spins on turning wickets, but the Sri Lankan batting is fairly weak at the moment to balance things out a little.

Paul Collingwood is retiring at the end of the season.

Bye mate

Looking at his record it's amazing he's the one we knew was the weak link in the side.

Could fucking do with mid-00s Colly now.

Aussies in "behaving like absolute cunts" shocker.

Sounds like something Warner would be thick enough to say.

QuoteRemarks of this nature are unacceptable and have no place in our sport, or in society," said a Cricket Australia spokesperson.

"We have a clear set of values and behaviours that comes with representing our country"

No, you just say you do. It's pretty fucking clear Lehmann's regime was tediously macho and characterised by bullying behaviour, the worst elements of the team given seniority and license to behave in a juvenile way, all under an umbrella of empty words from Cricket Australia and nonsense ethics such as the notion it is acceptable to behave in such a way so long as it doesn't cross a self-regulated "line".

Add another year on the brainless cunt.

Interesting analysis of the series here - starts a bit tediously but justifies itself gradually.

Just watched some T20 replay of Hales and Morgan vs Sri Lanka in 2014. England were set 189 and lost two wickets for nothing in the first over. Then Morgan and Hales, especially, totally RAPED the Sri Lankan bowling for the next nineteen overs. Hales brought up his ton with an absolutely colossal six and then won the fucking game with another which felt genuinely IMPERIALIST in its cultural, economic and psychological impact. Devastating.

Also, Malinga is obviously a fucking chucker and a cheat. Total bullshit action.

I laughed. What a thing to be doing this early on a Saturday.

So Jennings made the Sri Lanka squad. Apart from that it all makes sense.

Was looking at the history of England players to play 10+ tests as a specialist batsman and average under 25.

Jennings
Vince
...guess the next 3 most recent...

Don't forget Larkins and Athey.

Pleased to see Marcus Trescothick is going to hang on for another year. Found out just now that he has a first class hat trick- I'd forgotten that he bowled a bit.

Some strange bloke at work smoking today but not in the smoking area.

Oi Thraxx, go and tell that bloke that looks like Shane Warne he can't smoke there.

I go over.  It is Shane Warne.

I hesitate.  I can't tell Shane Warne not to smoke; it's Shane Warne.  Then, I remember all countless reamings over the years of him fucking England over.

Me:  'Do you remember that ball that bowled Gatting at Old Trafford'.

Him. Long pause.  'yep'

Me:  'So do I, so you can't smoke there'.

Wanker puts out his already finished cigarette dead slow and casual like and ambles off inside.

Once saw him leading out Hampshire at Swansea. The team had to wait behind him while he finished his fag on the pavilion steps.

He was with Mark Nicholas who I assume is a pal from the Hants days. Nicholas is a tall gangly fucker and far more potatoey in the flesh than on TV.

Probably still do better than Jennings even at 43 with a severe crippling mental illness.
