QuoteBlade Hunter is Written, Produced & Directed by the award winning film maker Richard Driscoll. I dunno, someone like Lav Diaz?

Based on the two films of his I've managed to see he's a worthy suggestion. Always going to struggle for votes given how difficult most of his films are to see and how long they are.

He's announced he's not doing any more feature films though.

I hope that is not true. But y'know we have a rich back catalogue I guess

I am bad at film criticism.
I know if Luc Besson is involved I will enjoy a film (even if it isn't a good film)

Nobody mentioned Akira Kurosawa. Bummer.

Besides De Sica, Robert Bresson, Frank Capra, Akira Kurosawa, Ken Loach, Mike Leigh, John Cassavetes, Ingmar Bergman, John Huston, Elia Kazan, Robert Altman, Billy Wilder, Aki Kaurismaki, Paul Mazursky, Sidney Lumet, Abbas Kiarostami, Stanley Kubrick

My favourite living filmmaker is Auguste Lumière

I'm a dick!

I think PTA used to go out with Fiona Apple, which probably accounts for the mix-up.

Dr Syntax Head

I've not read any other post in this thread and I bet nobody had said Lynch. I bet I'm the first to mention Lynch. Because it is Lynch.

Edit. It's an old thread and I'm still a dick

"Riff-Raff" as well, but I haven't seen "Bleak Moments" yet.. I also like "I, Daniel Blake" because it's the first movie I saw that really critiques modern life.

I haven't seen i, daniel blake yet I've heard it's really cloying (feel awful for saying that) but I'm glad it exists (feel awful saying that too)

anyways I'm waiting out for jim allen and tony garnett's "spongers" disability sanctions drama to show up on YouTube before I eventually see blake

Sebastian Cobb

It's too gritty to be properly cloying.

Also My Name is Joe is better than Riff Raff, sorry not sorry.

eh most of the "cloying" accusations ive heard from are tories

i just realised how good a streak 90s loach had

Sebastian Cobb

Well I guess he had a lot of time to think about what he'd do being repeatedly blacklisted by the Beeb and ITV in the 80's.

Watched Hidden Agenda recently. I quite like it when he does the odd one outside a sink estate.

Sebastian Cobb

Only if John Carpenter does a kitchen sink drama in exchange.

newbridge

"Cloying" is a truly bizarre term to use for I, Daniel Blake. I mean, obviously Ken Loach's politics are not ambiguous, but they never have been.
