Andy Dawson's a touchy prick, isn't he?

4 arses

Reading the tweets I'm fairly sure this Andy character is just an Eddie Marsan sock puppet

Oh God he's insufferable. Shut up Stoat. David Quantick seems to be another one of these tedious militant Labour gimps nowadays, not sure if he's just got on that bandwagon or if he was always like that and I've only just started to notice.

Add Robert Webb.  But militant is the last word you'd use for these.

The last GE is their 9/11, their brains have snapped.

I think you're all being a bit harsh on Andy. Yes, he can be over-sensitive, but he's hardly a rampant arsehole. He's always struck me as a fundamentally genial, funny guy. Most of his tweets are just harmless whimsy.

I also think he's a very good foil for Bob on the hilarious Athletico Mince podcast.

I should point out, of course, that I've been pals with him on Twitter for ages. During that time, he's never annoyed me in the slightest. On the contrary, he's a good laugh. Or maybe I'm an arsehole too? I just don't know anymore.

Usually I would bow to your better judgement BBB, but he is a massively awful cunt on Twitter. He really is. I've never got around to listening to Athletico Mince which I'm told is great, and the fact that Bob Mortimer can tolerate him suggests he's probably alright in real life, but you only have to spend two minutes on his timeline to see that he comes across as a really nasty, vindictive guy. I'm sure that isn't the 'real' him and he's much nicer in real life/in one-to-one conversations online, but his public persona is all most of us have to go on.

Fair enough. I only really know Andy from our amiable one-to-one chats about pop culture nonsense, and he's always been very nice, funny and friendly as far as I'm concerned. I've never noticed him tweeting anything cunty or vindictive.

He was always very nice to me too, very supportive of this site via retweets and stuff. Seemed like a good guy. Maybe unfollow him if you're all that outraged.

Crabwalk

I used to have some nice chats with him on twitter about our mutual love of American Music Club. Not many of us Eitzel fans kicking around.

A couple of months ago he called me a cunt and blocked me for asking him a question.

I don't even follow him, but he subtweeted me calling me a cunt a few months ago.

All you have to do is read his timeline to see how nasty he is to certain people.

The issue with Dawson isn't how he treats the people he likes, but who he doesn't like, and his reasons for not liking them seem rather strange. That's why he's considered a cunt.

Thursday

Brexit and Corbyn seems to have driven a lot of decent people into becoming militantly grumpy sneering centrists bores. Not sure if Dawson is an example of that, but Quantik certainly is.

BritishHobo

JK Rowling's the same. Her Casual Vacancy book felt like a thrillingly urge and furious attack on the Tories, but since Corbyn became leader she doesn't seem to have ire left for anyone but him.

Make sure to tell her Dumbledore=Corbyn, she loves that

Its putting me off going back to Athletico Mince.

I listened to about 10 episodes or so last year, and Dawson is basically just setting Bob up at best - but now I find myself actively disliking anything Dawson says.

Mortimer is so good mind. hmm

Yes, completely agreed, with the caveat that I've never made it more than halfway through a single episode because of Dawson anyway. He just seems like some bloke to me, making everything less funny.

From a thread containing a full gamut of paternal both-sidesers.

If the syllable 'zarb' invokes your ire, you too might have been compromised by centrism. Tread carefully.

Not ideal for a comedy writer to repeatedly get put in his place by political commentators with much funnier repostes

He's the unfunniest superfluous sidekick Andy since Andy Davies.

Who is Zarb-Cousin? Louis Barfe seems to hate him.

Lots of weird discourse around the term "centrist dad" on my timeline lately.

Should have told him to get in the sea.

Former media spokesperson/aide thing for Corbyn after having a popular political blog/site. Now involved in a campaign to limit/ban the casino style spin machines in bookies. Has plans to run as an MP in the next election and is still very much a 'Corbynista'.

Has a popular fanbase  (is that the term here?) on twitter that can be quite vitriolic when he gets on spats there.

And what is centrist dad?

There's an article about it on bbc.co.uk at the minute. I haven't read it, might try to keep avoiding it after wasting my time and life reading the one about the word "hepeated" earlier in the week.

BritishHobo

My only knowledge of it is seeing it referenced in these spats, but as far as I can gather I think it's meant to be a strawman of a particular kind of middle-aged British tweeterer who has kids and is not at all happy about Corbyn and his fans dragging Labour more to the left.

As with the term Blairite or Corbybista or lefties or luvvie or Red Tory or cuck it can probably GET IN THE SEA hahahaha

imitationleather

I had a look at Falcon_Malteaser's twitter last night (why?!) and nearly every tweet was about "centrist dad", which was the first time I'd ever seen it used and so assumed it was some kind of bollocks. So if he was still here basically half the forum would currently be about the term.

Barry Admin

Wow I just looked, those journalists calling him out... wow. Wow.

Sometimes I think of going back, but then stuff like that and threads like this remind me of how God-awful it is, and how it seems to take over people's lives. Stuff like "hepeated" and "centrist dad" just makes it look like the same cliquey, hateful fucking partisan dumpster fire of massive unrestrained egos, tapping away all day like trained rats at their Skinner box validation machine.

Thursday

To me it did seem like a good term at first that, it captured a certain type of person on twitter. The kind of middle aged man who spends his time responding condescendingly to everything a vaguely left-leaning female journalist on twitter says, but then it get's used as a catch all term to dismiss/group bully anyone deviating from what the cool clique has decided is good and right. And of course as we all know, it's absolutely fine to use bullying tactics as long as your cause is just.

I think it's quite a clever tool - if for whatever reason you ever hold a view or opinion that you wish you didn't, just follow a load of people who also strongly hold that view and I guarantee within a week you'll think it's a shit opinion for smug arseholes.

Exactly. Twitter is what you make it yourself. Follow the journos and commentators in subjects you're interested in. Its easy enough to mute and unfollow those that you dont like or grate even on the topics you like - though there certainly are cliques, and those in the cliques have quite a siege mentality to those that don't toe the group mindset no matter how hypocritical they're being.

It can make you dislike people who otherwise you'd like - Dawson being a prime example, if all i knew of him was as a straight man foil for Bob on the Mince podcast I would like the guy, but the weird PMs he's sent women and his sneering attitude to things like this have him pegged as an arsehole.

Aye you just said like two days ago, if you don't like it, unfollow that person. If you think Twitter can be alright then just follow the people that make it alright for you. Every social media site is what you make it for this obvious reason. I really like Tumblr because my feed is literally just images - niche, weird stuff and artists I love. Tumblr has a side that's full of fucking mental and rabid arguing cunts but I've never seen one bit of it on my feed.

Anyway, Andy Dawson. I find it funny that he gets really shitty about classism on Twitter, and on Athletico Mince he has a long-repeated bit that chastises Bob for being supposedly better off than him with his "slaves" and whatnot. I know it's a running joke but still the juxtaposition of those two things is amusing to me.
