Labyrinthe for fuck's sake. And Troll.

I've always hated the shit out of Dark Crystal.  I can see why other people like it, but it does shit all for me other than annoy me.  Billy Piper looking gelfling cunts.

I've just remembered The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik Yak (1984).
And I recommend it to all.

*Googles* Great Scott!

Phenomena is not only Argento's best film, but one of the most dizzyingly nutty and wonderful films ever made -

An interestingly varied marketing campaign

Wasn't there a Caligula-like hardcore alternative version of that?  I'm sure the one I saw (a non-UK laserdisc) had actual fucking in it, but neither Wiki nor IMDB mention anything other than the R and Unrated versions.

The Company of Wolves is an incredible movie

It's okay but it's no Teen Wolf.

The Never Ending Story just looks absolute shit. I think disliking that film as a kid will prevent me from watching it again.

What what what? Do you mean shit in general or you don't like the visual effects (which I recall being good)? Either way, the movie is great.

Aside from the horse carking it, I remember it being quite twee when I saw it at the cinema at the age of 5 or 6.  Either I was a sick little fuck back then, or it really was quite twee.

I have not seen it since then, which is 32 or 33 years.

I remember I fancied the princess back then. I feel quite guilty about it now, because she was obvioualy underage. But then so was I. I'm not sure what my legal standing is.

Blumf

She didn't half slap on the make-up though. The little hussy!

I gave Deathstalker (1983) a go a few weeks ago and my god it's awful. The acting and sets are like a sword and sorcery porno and there are a few pairs of boobs thrown in here and there to keep the interest. Even so it still took me the whole day to get through it. If I'm bored by a film but determined to get through it I tend to take a break whenever the boredom level rises to unbearable. Well that happened about 15 times in this film. I'd give it 2/10 purely for the boob action.

Also watched Clash of the Titans (1981) over the weekend and that was a different class entirely. Laurence Olivier as Zeus, Ursula Andress and Maggie Smith as other gods. Giant scorpians, Medusa, the Kraken, this film has the lot. The story of Perseus nicely done. It also had the extra kick of being something I vaguely remember watching as a kid, I'm 99% sure I saw the Medusa scene where he chops off her head using his shield reflection. This is a classy joint and highly recommended 7/10.

Battle Beyond the Stars (1980) is pretty decent. It's a Roger Corman-produced space opera-remake of The Magnificent Seven. Robert Vaughn's even in it.

Probably reflects a lot of peoples opinions I'd imagine, it isn't as overtly strange as stuff like the Dark Crystal or Return to Oz but there is clearly a bit of an edge behind the tweeness that was easier to miss as a child.

This used to be a Sunday afternoon staple when I was growing up (during the 80's, natch) and it is indeed great. There's also the curiosity value of it being Ray Harryhausen's last film as the Lucas/ILM era was taking off. Medusa and that deformed swamp-guy gave me nightmares for years, which is obviously a good thing. Even the ridiculously shoehorned-in clockwork owl was brilliant.

The owl is a shitty R2D2 knock-off, lots of the film is utterly boring sequences of the Gods droning on. It has some good sequences but it's really not a good film.

Another vote for Time Banditz

GOR circa 1987 from Cannon films so you know it's prime schlocky fare

It's got Ollie Reed in it and he is just having an absolutely lovely time from start to finish.

Shit Good Nose

How about the two Ewok films?  More fantasy than spacey.

Also more shit than not.

There's also the sequel.  Which doesn't have Ollie Reed in it.  It has got Jack Palance, though.

I've been meaning to get round to the sequel.

I just found another one on youtube that I hadnt heard of before called The Barbarians

And if you scroll down to the comments section there's a rather heartwarming story that unfolds!

I fully enjoyed the clockwork owl and if that makes me wrong I don't want to be right.
