Head Gardener

This new series has just dropped on Netflix - I'm starting it after GoT tonight with fingers x it has nothing to do with mountain daredevils

Paaaaul

I watched it all. It's pretty good.
It's the closest thing I've seen to Breaking Bad, but more downbeat.
A problem I have with a lot of modern TV series is the indecisive ending. Do we wrap things up, do we leave things open, or neither? Ozark does a good job in this regard.

Head Gardener

cool, but it's going to take me weeks to get through 10 episodes with all the other shows on the go and The Strain season 4 just started too for gods sake!

Breaking Bad is leagues above but similarish story/family so I can see why they're being compared, very good in its own right though

SteveDave

I've loved this. Got one more episode left. Episode 8 was extremely well done with the different timelines coming and going.

Neomod

I've just watched the first episode. Was going to sack it off, then it got interesting.

I kept expecting to hear Ron Howard's "He didn't" in the first half which took me out a bit.

Paaaaul

FYI, y'all. Season 2 was commissioned last week.

It was distracting. He's just Michael Bluth forever. He looks too young for Laura Linney too.

Shite. They've clearly got no vision for the show. Tedious characters, second rate supporting cast lifted straight from Justified. It's a top-shop New Order T-Shirt of a show

Sorry for the bump, but I've just finished watching this and I've got to say I really enjoyed it. It felt like a step above your usual Netflix stuff, your Stranger Things and the Marvel shows (even though they can be quite enjoyable), and I really enjoyed the development of a number of the characters especially Marty, his relationship with his wife, and Ruth. It's not perfect but it's far far from shite, and I do think there's a vision in place. It doesn't have the stupid season ending(s) like Stranger Things and I liked the way not everything was neatly wrapped up - there's still a number of issues with the various characters that will be explored in S2 and likely beyond.

One of the few things I didn't like was the daughter Charlotte though, because of her big fuck-off nose. Seriously, it's really offputting. Get someone else in to play her.

Also, Peter Mullan can't pull off a hillbilly. I'm sorry mate, you canny be anything other than a Glaswegian junkie.

I haven't seen this programme as I don't really watch television but I was intrigued by this comment and looked her up and she has a FANTASTIC nose, incredibly sexy. Her best feature I would say. Some things look great slightly out of proportion.

Found the cold, green/grey colour palette too distracting to last more than a few episodes, it just looks horrible.

Twed

I liked the butch/sociopath subplot. The smart hick girl matriarch was good. The bar owner woman seemed unnecessary, and I thought the ending was open-ended and undecided and shit.

WhoMe

Thread resurrection for Season 3?

I'm three episodes in, really strong so far. The tension, dread and relief have always been well balanced and they've managed to maintain that.
Helen being around more is a bonus, and Ruth got to call her
Spoiler alert
'that giant bitch'

.
I can't quite place why the cartel in this show feel so much more ominous, with genuine horror undertones, than their portrayal elsewhere. Anyone else feel that? When Marty was at the concert and
Spoiler alert
the cartel goons emerged from out of focus to 'escort' him to their car

made my heart jump.

Sacked it off after a few episodes of the first series. I think after slogging through Breaking Bad I've grown really tired of bleak as fuck shows loaded up with tension and horrible characters.

Neomod

I found both previous seasons entertaining and so will give this a watch.

Puce Moment

Just finished the first episode. I like it! It's not vintage TV drama, but it passes the time well.

Head Gardener

just finished S03 and that was pretty much the best thing I've seen so far this year, it cranks up to the last episode and there will be more, oh yes

Puce Moment

I'm on episode four and I would say that this is the best season so far. I winced when they brought the brother into this, but I have quickly come to like his character a lot. He is a fuck-up and a waster but he is more morally grounded than his sociopathic sister.

Head Gardener

you are gonna love the last few episodes then

Puce Moment

Oooh! Rationing them to one episode per night, which is easier with Ozark due to its hour long episodes.

Head Gardener

you say that but when I got to episode 9 at ten last night I just had to go for the last bit, glad I did but needed a lie-in this morning to recover

Yet another show with a middling few series, then explodes into being legitimately good a long way down the line. How on earth does someone get to the good stuff without having to wade through a mountain of at best above average drama?

I support Tottenham so relentless disappointment with brief peaks of elation are nothing new.
Saying that, season one successfully got me invested. Ruth especially. Season 2 was a bit of a dip, but still worth watching over most other telly, and then this season has really cranked it up again. As Head Gardener says - chuffed they are going for a fourth season, although the body count is getting so high I don't see how it can go on much longer, unless they somehow up sticks and leave the Ozarks behind.
