Y'alls photography thread has made me want to buy a digital camera. I don't have a computer at home yet, could be a while before I do, but have ye any suggestions, recommendations re: some models I should have a look at?

Maybe one day I'll mong...

First off, what's your budget and experience with cameras?

Ciarán2

Not much experience, best camera I ever had was a fifty quid Canon Advantix thing. Budget-wise, I don't really want to go over €500 - the thing is, I'm in Spain, not sure for how much longer and I really ought to be taking advantage of all the marvellous sights there are here. It might be worth saving up for a while and getting a decent one, but then no point getting one with lots of features I'm not gonna use...so a "starter" digital camera, really is what I'm after. Thanks lots in advance, by the way!

Is it fair to summise you would only really want a selection of 6"x4" prints in general, rather than do lots if lovely big prints to hang all'o the place?

To me (and i know nothing) sounds like you want a lil compact digital camera. Personally i have a Canon powershot A70, which i have been very happy with up until it broke for the 2nd time recently.

My experience....

Kodaks tend to produce very colourful sharp images, but sometimes through post processing.

Nikons are ace at macro shots.

Not a lot of help I know, but every little helps.

I hardly understand a word but  it does give marks out of 5 at the end of each review!!

I read good things about these and they are about £150

use the dropdown menu to explore all of the review, specs, sample photos etc

+ if you ebay you might get a wee bargain

As mentioned in the Bargains thread, I'm looking for a Digital Camera, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

So can anyone give me some idea as to whether this camera fits the bargain criteria.

And more importantly, is there anything better in the same price range?

I'd always assumed that the number of Mega-pixels was the vital statistic in choosing a camera, is this so, and what else should I be looking out for or wary of before buying.

splattermac

looks like value for money to me, I put it in Steve's Digital Cameras website to get a better look at it

be sure and use the drop down menu to explore the full breadth of the review, there's even a selection of photos taken with the camera.

Hope that helps

I've heard nothing but good about the Canon Ixus range, good value, high quality and won loads of "Best camera in it's class" awards in magazines like Stuff and G3.

But then I'm a Canon fanboy, so I would say that.
