In which you combine album tracks, EP tracks, and singles to create an improved version of an album. Anyone else do this?

One playlist I particularly like is combining David Bowie's Blackstar with the tracks from the No Plan EP (which I've bolded), to create a fully cohesive work with (to me) a more intense dramatic climax and a real sense of closure at the end. The running order:

Blackstar
When I Met You

'Tis A Pity...
Lazarus
Sue
Girl Loves Me
Killing A Little Time

Dollar Days
Can't Give Everything Away
No Plan

Now I love the Manics as much as the next man, but even the most ardent of fans would have to admit that This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours is a bit of a flabby, overlong chore to get through.

So in my ideal version I'd remove some of the chaff, and replace it with killer, upbeat b-sides from the period, such as Black Holes For The Young and Prologue To History.

It makes for a far more satisfactory listen to mine ears, and is also shorter and sweeter

This is more of an extension job, but Radiohead's King Of Limbs was just too slight for me, so I added the awesome Supercollider and Staircase to beef it up. Bit criminal they wasn't on there to begin with

My first mp3 player was a bit on the crap side and couldn't read the ID3 tags on tracks. One upshot of his was that it had a tendency to play tunes in alphabetical order, which I found works really well for Blues For the Red Sun by Kyuss.

I'm sure there's a decent album in "Hail to the thief" somewhere.

Mine was a creative one that had no meaningful concept of directory structure.

Has anyone had a go at a better flowing tracklist for Big Star's "Third/Sister Lovers"?

The version I had on CD in the 90s had about 20 songs on it and was front loaded with the uptempo ones.

Gradual Decline

Slayer - Redux In Blood

01. Angel of Death
02. Necrophobic
03. Altar Of Sacrifice
04. Jesus Saves
05. Aggressive Perfector
06. Postmortem
07. Raining Blood

Cutting out the not quite-good-enough tracks from side 2 of Reign In Blood along with the perennially tedious Piece By Piece from side 1, with the addition of the 1986 version of Aggressive Perfector - admittedly this track isn't exactly canon.

I made an alternate version of Coldplay's album A Head Full Of Dreams by replacing all the tracks with the Best Of Kid Creole & the Coconuts.

Anyone got an alternate alternate version?

Screamadelica with the longer Orb mix of Higher than the SUn and a couple of tracks from the Dixie Nacro EP replacing Shine Line Stars, the spookey cover of Carry Me Home makes a much better ending track IMHO.

Daf, what would you make of this as a fantasy tracklisting?

daf

Pretty good : "A Collection Of Newies . . . But Grewies" - in the shops for Christmas 1973.

(Odd to see 'C Moon' in there - I threw it out of my potential album line-ups pretty early)
I'd pop My Love towards the end of side 1 - putting it as track two loses a bit of momentum at a crucial early stage.
Something like this :

Side 1
Instant Karma!
Hi Hi Hi
Back Off Boogaloo
Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)
My Love
Happy Xmas (War is Over)

Side 2
My Sweet Lord
It Don't Come Easy
C Moon (if we must!)
Bangladesh (Live - the studio version isn't half as good)
Imagine
Live and Let Die

Dr Rock

As a pedant I would like to point out that 'Instant Karma!' has and always has an exclamation point. This is dropped so many times, in cover versions, compilations etc.
