'I'm the Greatest' is from 1973, but there's a non-album Ringo single from '71 you could swap it for - 'It Don't Come Easy'
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It_Don%27t_Come_Easy

(also, the b side 'Early 1970' is a charming thumbnail of the Beatle situation at the time)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoQjL9RIFwQ

Just spotted - You've included 'Come and Get it' twice - in album 3 and 4 - maybe pop 'Cold Turkey' in there instead? (Lennon wanted it as a Beatle single)

Nowhere Man

Here's my sort of box set idea for the first four years following The Beatles disbandment. Stopping at 1974 for several fairly obvious reasons:

1. They were all consistently releasing new material until that point.
2. John took a backseat from his musical career soon afterwards to take care of his infant son, his only album between 1975-1979 being the somewhat naff 'Rock 'n' roll' covers album.
3. Macca seemingly became the only one making vital singles. (Not a knock against George but his later stuff up until the 80s is decidedly more low key.
4. The quality of Ringo's recordings fell off a cliff!

Anyway here ya go:

Disc One:
1. Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)
2. My Sweet Lord
3. Another Day
4. It Don't Come Easy
5. Jealous Guy
6. Uncle Albert-Admiral Halsey

8. Every Night
9. What Is Life
10. Too Many People
11. Early 1970
12. Imagine
13. All Things Must Pass
14. Maybe I'm Amazed
15. Gimme Some Truth
16. Back Off Boogaloo
17. Mother
18. Beware Of Darkness
19. The Back Seat Of My Car
20. Isn't It A Pity

Disc Two:
1. Back Off Boogaloo
2. Dear Boy
3. Power To The People
4. Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)
5. Ram On
6. Remember
7. Teddy Boy
8. How?
9. Run of the Mill
10. Cold Turkey
11. Heart Of The Country
12. Oh Yoko!
13. I'd Have You Anytime
14. Oh My Love
15. Smile Away
16. Let It Down
17. Hold On
18. Awaiting on You All

All good ideas!

Hehe I did know that the Ringo tune was from a bit later, but couldn't resist sticking it in, due to Lennon's involvement!

I'll change the title to "The Lost Early 70's Album"!

Talking of Beatles, here's my preferred Let It Be

A fine set, that, but you've got Back Off Boogaloo on there twice. Explain yourself.

What's with everyone not including Working Class Hero on their imaginary 1970s Beatles albums?

daf

For me it was the swearing - I didn't think George Martin would have approved.

In my mind I was picturing the Beatles & Solo careers going in parallell - so every year, they'd record the stuff that everyone liked for the The Beatles LP, and the rest would be released on solo albums

So, my Solo Lennon LP (as 'The Plastic Ono Band') for 1970 would be :

Side 1 :
Give Peace a Chance
Hold On
I Found Out
Working Class Hero
Why (Yoko)
Who Has Seen the Wind? (Yoko)

Side 2 :
Remember
Love
Remember Love (Yoko)
Well Well Well
Look at Me
My Mummy's Dead

Custard

I tried to pick tunes I'd imagine the rest of them joining in on. I'm thinking of taking out Teddy Boy from mine for the same reason. I think that track appearing on Anthology has made me think of it as a Beatles tune

Of course, it's all bollocks anyway, cos if they'd stuck together all these tunes probably would've turned out quite differently, and they would've written a load of other tunes too

BEATLES TUNES WE WILL NEVER HEAR. Arggghh

Yes, I think Lennon would likely be pouring the scorn bucket down heavily on that one ("take your partners, do-sey-do")

How about 'Another Day'?

Custard

Yeah that's a good choice. Or maybe Smile Away from Ram. I reckon Lennon would've enjoyed that one

daf

Oh yes, absolutely!

'Eat at Home' might have been a candidate :
QuoteAlthough John Lennon was highly critical of many of the songs on Ram, feeling they were veiled attacks on him, he publicly admitted that he enjoyed this particular song quite a bit.

Right, I've knocked up my 1970s Beatles album. I've included tracks from Ram as Macca was recording it while doing the legal stuff about splitting up the Beatles, so if that doesn't happen he'd have time to get those songs ready for the next Beatles album - which I have also called All Things Must Pass, nicked off daf.

A Side
Instant Karma!
My Sweet Lord
Every Night
I Found Out
Come And Get It
What Is Life

B Side
Maybe I'm Amazed
Hot As Sun/Glasses
Hold On It Don't Come Easy
Monkberry Moon Delight
Too Many People
Mother

C Side
Power To The People
Beware Of Darkness
Man We Was Lonely
If Not For You
That Would Be Something
Working Class Hero

D Side
Junk
Well Well Well
Teddy Boy
Art Of Dying
Look At Me God
Heart of the Country
All Things Must Pass

Tried to make it flow as an album best I could, and the D side even has the tracks sort of summing up 'what next?'

Clocks in at 84 minutes compared with The Beatles (White Album)'s 93 minutes, so could chuck a couple more on if anyone thinks there are any egregious omissions. Teddy Boy got on because Macca insisted there should be one of those songs about other people with names and that, he likes doing them. Just missed the track listing for me were Lennon's Look At Me and Isolation, and a couple from All Things Must Pass because otherwise George was getting too many songs on the album and that's not allowed.

Nice one!

For the 'summing up / what next' side D - Early 1970 from Ringo could be considered? (Possibly too late - it came out a month after 'People to the People' in April 1971)

edit: You've included 'Look at Me' - did you mean 'God'?

Dr Rock

I'd like to put a Ringo song on there, so if I'm allowing songs from Ram cos recording began in 1970, so did Ringo's single. So I'd put It Don't Come Easy in place of Lennon's Hold On, as it's not as strong a song. I'll edit it now.

It was a toss up, as I'm not overly fond of either - but on reflection God is better, so I'll edit that change in too.

For a replacement Ringo, how about . . .

Oh My My (from the 1973 'Ringo' LP)

Custard

Right, I've finally settled on...

The harshness of Cold Turkey giving way to the lightness of Maybe I'm Amazed works surprisingly well

Norton Canes

Adding the far superior bonus tracks from the deluxe box set edition of Depeche Mode's Sounds of the Universe in place of the makeweights...

In Chains
Hole to Feed
Light
Wrong
Fragile Tension
Little Soul
In Sympathy
Peace
The Sun and the Moon and the Stars
Come Back
Spacewalker
Perfect
Miles Away/The Truth Is
Oh Well
Jezebel
Corrupt
Ghost

Custard

Stating the bladdy obvious, but The Kinks were fucking brilliant

http://albumsthatneverwere.blogspot.co.uk/2012/

It's quite an amusing blog.  Though I get a bit concerned whenever he earnestly describes fictional scenarios in which his mixtapes get critical and commercial acclaim.  I'm not sure how to take it.

Nowhere Man

What if: Brian Wilson wasn't urged to make 3-4 albums a year, and The Beach Boys/Capitol Records had some semblance of quality control prior to Pet Sounds, ala with The Beatles and George Martin? And they were all around the 30-35 minute mark instead?

That way you have 5 good-excellent early albums, as opposed to 10 of them ranging from poor-almost excellent.

Since Past Masters Vol. 1 & 2 mainly annoy me for having such naff covers:

Beatles Oldies (1962-1966)

1. Love Me Do (Mono/Single)
2. From Me To You (Mono)
3. Thank You Girl (Mono)
4. She Loves You (Mono)
5. I'll Get You (Mono)
6. I Want To Hold Your Hand (Mono)
7. This Boy (Mono)
8. Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand (Mono)
9. Sie Liebt Dich (Mono)
10. Long Tall Sally (Mono)
11. I Call Your Name (Mono)
12. Slow Down (Mono)
13. Matchbox (Mono)
14. I Feel Fine (Mono)
15. She's a Woman (Mono)
16. Bad Boy (Mono)
17. Yes It Is (Mono)
18. I'm Down (Mono)
19. Day Tripper (Mono)
20. We Can Work It Out (Mono)
21. Paperback Writer (Mono)
22. Rain (Mono)
Runtime: 53:40 Minutes

and for Past Masters vol. 2:

Across The Universe [1968-1970]

1. Lady Madonna (Mono)
2. The Inner Light (Mono)
3. Hey Jude (Mono)
4. Revolution (Mono)

Runtime: 55:52 minutes

and with new album designs and titles its almost like have two more proper Beatles albums ;) plus now that the four 'new' songs from Yellow Submarine are collected here with the other tracks (ala Mono Masters) it means you don't have to bother with the movie soundtrack.
(Album design 1 was made by me, 2 was made by a guy called Petrofsk on Stevehoffman.tv)

SteveDave

I knew I'd done one of these

1971

It Don't Come Easy
What is Life?
Jealous Guy
Dear Boy
Oh Yoko!
All Things Must Pass

Maybe I'm Amazed
Awaiting On You All
Gimme Some Truth
Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey
Love
Back Seat Of My Car

The single would be Imagine b/w My Sweet Lord
