Capaldi's funniest moments.

You know, looking back - it seems to me the longer his hair got the further the character got away from Malcolm Tucker and the more he became the Doctor.

Straight Faced Customer

Been thinking the same thing!

By the way, I don't know much about cinematography, but did anyone else notice that seasons 7 and 8 had a more flat and overly 'blue' visual look? It's not noticeable so much in 7 as those stories were that pre-Capaldi style, all action-packed with short scenes.

It becomes more noticeable in the slower-paced 8, though, and as the camera lingers more, the plasticky-looking background sets become more noticeable. I think that's why that series doesn't sit with me well, especially when it juxtaposes space locations with humdrum classroom and living room shots. The warm colours of the latter are rendered looking 'flat', while the cold blues of the former make everything look fake.

A new ranked Doctors list, and they put Tom 4th and Capaldi 2nd, which is madness - http://www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2018-01-06/doctor-who-ranked/

Actual list is -

13 Colin Baker
12 William Hartnell
11 Sylvester McCoy
10 John Hurt
9 Patrick Troughton
8 Peter Capaldi
7 Paul McGann
6 Jon Pertwee
5 Christopher Eccleston
4 Peter Davison
3 David Tennant
2 Matt Smith
1 Tom Baker

Kelvin

Just put Peter Davidson at the bottom.

Sorry, Dangerman.

Pretty close, biggy, but the actual list is...

1. Tom Baker
2. Matt Smith
3. Patrick Troughton
4. David Tennant
5. Jon Pertwee
6. Peter Davison
7. Peter Capaldi
8. Christopher Eccleston
9. William Hartnell
10. Sylvester McCoy
11. Colin Baker
12. Paul McGann (perhaps unfair, as I've never listened to any of his audio plays)

You guys have both accidentally put David Tennant too high, and Capaldi lower than Davison which is a bizarre error.  You need better proofreading skills.

Next month's "...is the Doctor" DWM cover revealed:

It's Murray Gold who's leaving, you idiots!  Dudley Simpson was ages ago!!

Everyone's proofreading is such boatfuls of arse in this day and age.

Premier League :
1. Patrick Troughton (I would like a hat like that!)
2. Tom Baker (beat you, cock!)
3. Colin Baker (thanks to his Big Finish stories with Evelyn Smythe)
- - - - - - - - - - -
on the sub's bench : John Hurt (I Clavdivs!)

Championship:
4. Jon Pertwee (The Brig! The Master!)
5. William Hartnell (Ian, Barbara, Vicki, The Historicals)
6. Matt Smith (Rory, Paternoster Gang)
- - - - - - - - - - -
sub's bench : Peter Cushing ("Hello, my name is Dr Who")

The Old Division 3 :
7. Peter Capaldi (saddled with wooden companion)
8. Peter Davison (saddled with bickering companions)
9. Paul McGann (erm . . . OK, how about - saddled with a terrible US re-boot)

sub's bench : Joanna Lumley (Yum-ley!)

Bradshaw Snackbox League (north):
10. David Tennant (cocky & smug)
11. Sylvester McCoy (cannot act for toffee)

What if you can't include their audio-only stories?

(You've added "erm" to Paul McGann's Doctor presumably because there's not enough TV stuff to go on, so you need to be consistent and put Colin Baker in the "stomps around bellowing and doing fart smelling faces" acting category.)

daf

I have heard some of Paul McGann's audios, but they just don't seem to make much of an impression on me (hence the original 'erm').

Colin on TV was a massive clusterfudge of poor decisions (embarrasing companions, weak stories & misguided acting choices) - I really only like The Mark of the Rani (due to it being a semi-historical)

Without the audios, he'd probably be . . . ooh . . .  between Davison and McGann.

That Radio Times list is fucking absurd. I knew Tennant would be top, because he's the Shit for Cunts Doctor (although I do like him at times), but putting Troughton at 10 is a joke.

For me:
1. Pat Troughton
2. Tom Baker
3. Jon Pertwee
4. Matt Smith
5. Sylvester McCoy
6. William Hartnell
7. Peter Davison
8. Peter Capaldi
9. Paul McGann
10. David Tennant
11. Colin Baker
12. Christopher Eccleston

McCoy was great with the playful humour material, but his acting fell apart whenever he had to be angry or intense.

Eccleston had the exact opposite problem, but his difficulties expressing silliness could be explained within the show as a by-product of him not being truly happy after the Time War.  That makes sense when he's doing it with other people, but there's a moment in The Empty Child that always makes me cringe:

He's on his own yet he spontaneously does a Chucklebrothers thing with the disconnected TARDIS telephone when it starts ringing.

I thought the proofreading joke was obvious enough.

I thought my use of bold was a giveaway, but hey.

I think he did intense in a mysterious way quite well. Anger, though, he definitely struggled with. On the whole I do really like him, though, there's a real strangeness in his performance that works well for me. He's the least charismatic and most 'distant' Doctor a lot of the time, and I think it works quite well.

Haha. Dudley's the Blake's 7 guy isn't he?  I got onto the Tom Baker kind of era recently and kept thinking "this sounds a lot like B7"
