Amazing to think that he wrote Mr Agreeable, as there's no trace of that bile in his real life persona.

It can't all have been performative comedy rage, some of the stuff he wrote in that guise was so specific and observant it must've been an exaggerated expression of his actual feelings.

Well, he was right about Morrissey.

Really hoping the pod survives the switch to the world of corporate podcasting. Remains to be seen if downloading the thing in cut up chunks can retain the charm, but I'm hoping it does. These fuckers deserve recognition and a degree of economic viability.

Hear fucking hear.

Haven't listened to the latest epic yet, but I thought these clips might be of interest to the pop-crazed youngsters.

Yer very own Al Needham chatting about this and that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYf2Eo5Fzwk

And here's our Neil.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9MjYBebySQ

And our Stubbsy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVqe9zfWLfw

And a very poor quality clip of our Pricey on Japanese TV in 1995.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kj9k4ZP2e7U

Alas, there doesn't appear to be any trace of our Sarah on YouTube (the Sarah Bee you find when you type her name into the search engine is, I think it's fair to assume, not the same person).

Al Needham doesn't look like that in my head. I find it disconcerting when that happens. It is like the first time I saw Mark Radcliffe after years of listening to him on the radio. This doesn't happen so much any more with that there internet

Neomod

Good luck to them but I wouldn't be seen dead in a 'bummerdog' t.shirt.

Paul Jabsco on the other hand.

SteveDave

I've just seen there's a link to a Google Drive of the TOTP episode they're talking about on this episode in the Patreon email. Have they always done this?

It's Culture Club all over again. I was imagining a handsome Jamaican singer until finally seeing George on TOTP. Never confused.

I remember a similar TV piece on This Morning about Romo. I really ground my gears at the time but it was only when MM reported the death of the fictional band I Dream Of Wires that I realised that tongues were firmly planted in cheek with the whole thing.

I've got a Bummerdog T-shirt - made it myself and will realistically only ever wear it out next time I go to Brighton and to Pricey's club.

Can't see any Taylor either. Unless...?

Yes.

Been waiting ages to hear Pricey rhapsodise about Sparks. Lovely vibe to this episode with an abundance of enthusing over how ridiculously good the mainstream pop chart were in the eighventies.

For any interested pop crazed youngsters, all the 1979 eps apart from the ones hosted by Savile and DLT are still streamable on archive.org. It was indeed a very rich year. I only started watching the BBC4 repeats religiously from 1981 onwards so I had a blast watching all of these in chronological order last year.* Turns out the lead singer of Quantum Jump and B.A Cunterson aren't actually the same person, though.

*If anyone knows any way I could watch all of 1980 I would be forever in their debt. Signed up for a free trial of BritBox in the hope there'd be a load of TOTP on there but nah.

Not technically perhaps but morally they are.

Having a tea bar at a club isn't that unusual. Peter Powell set the template for Mr Scruff in that regard.

She mentioned in the last episode that Sarah Bee was a nom de plume, and she had changed her surname, didn't she?

What happened to the Stubbs Q&A Bonus episode?

Finished it yesterday but feel I need to go back over it track by track because there is too much to digest in one mega listen. I had an instant Proustian moment at the end when Al read out 'For A Few Dollars More' from the BBC2 schedule. I relived watching that film on that night and it's now associated forever with watching  Sparks, Cunterson and that particular #1. I'm almost certain I had at least one pot noodle because I was addicted to them that summer, and I did watch the Test match all day because there was fuck all else to do.

SteveDave

I love Simon "member" Price saying how much he loves Steve Jones but then lays into other musicians he sees as being homophobic and sexist. A great bunch of lads.

A phonetic spelling of "Sarah B"?

OTOH here's an old profile page

I robbed a bank in El Paso
BANG BANG
Now I'm mates with two gringos
BANG BANG
Got a problem with the 'erb cos I can't think straight
I've decided to kill off a few of my mates
I should've stayed inside my cell
BANG BANG

The lyrics mention John Fruin, later done for chart rigging.
