Morrissey's conception of his sexuality is tied into his conception of whiteness - homoerotic whiteness - so being opposed to both homophobia and immigration is not a contradiction for him. There have always been gay fascists (see Röhm, who wasn't built in a day).

Would be great album title

Quoteartwork by Liam Lynch
photograph by Jean Messenger

There's a Liam Lynch who was a well-known Irish Republican who died in 1923. Jean Messenger seems to not exist, at least as a photographer. (There are a few Facebook profiles with women of that name, but I don't think any of them have that job.) I think these credits might actually be attempts at historical / cultural references as fake names - a bit like how he used the name of "Ann Coates" for the backing vocals in Bigmouth Strikes Again (which was taken from Ancoats in Manchester). Only this time, FashMoz has ballsed up and accidentally chosen the name of someone who shares that first name, and is alive. But if the Sifl & Olly bloke did actually do the cover, I guess that would be the crowning shit thing in his career.

Also I can't quite believe this album exists, and I half-expect it to be proved as a joke.

I presume Jean Messenger is a childhood friend, since the cover image is a flop-haired pre-Smiths Morrissey. As noted upthread, Liam Lynch has done a bit of artwork and a video recently.

I understand that the Morrissey Central site, whence announcements (and the occasional sycophantic interview) now trickle, is ineptly run by Morrissey's nephew, so this Liam Lynch character might just be a mate.

He's become weirdly prolific since he stopped having the slightest whiff of anything to offer though, hasn't he?

That terrible 'stop watching the neeews' song popped into my head the other day, which as an absolute cut-off for me.  This will be the third album he's put out since the one that featured on!  If only he'd had this kind of workrate when he wasn't a grim stereotypical ex-pat pile of greasy cinders.
