I love a good remix.

This is gold. Shields bringing the majestic noise.

I adore this Todd Terje remix of 'Superstition'. Went to a new jack swing/funk/R&B night in Bristol earlier this year and it kicked right off on the dance floor, in a good way.

The Emperor Machine retools the jaunty pop of Stereolab's Silver Sands into an extended Krautrock epic.
Soulwax turn Ladytron's Seventeen into a seventies glam stomper
Jagz Kooner supercharges Primal Scream's Swastika Eyes
Soundhog takes the Steve Miller Band's Fly Like An Eagle for an extended funky workout

I always thought Ewan Pearson was the best remixer out there in the late 90s/early 00s.

I love the Ewan Pearson Goldfrapp remix.

Goldfrapp really are ripe for remixing

Edit. This is lovely. More Pearson making a very sexy Goldfrapp even sexier.

The dub remix version features on a cracking compilation by Fila Brazilia called Another Fine Mess where it segues perfectly into Yello's I Love You...an orgasmic experience if you get the chance to hear it

Dr Syntax Head

My favourite Goldfrapp remix. It's full on mega Moroderesque. When it kicks in about a minute and a half it's simply divine. Makes me want to punch myself in the face it's so good

I will deffo seek it out

BlodwynPig

Speaking of Yello, there are many great remixes of their work

Here's two of Andrew Weatherall's Jungle Bill mixes - completely different in style. The second one is a real mad dance one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJF4ULFkUxw

Edit: fucking hell, its immense - I wasn't into dance music when I bought it, but I remember dancing like a lunatic around my bedroom :)

and this earlier one - Tied Up (In Gear) - featuring an incessant and blistering guitar solo from Chico Hablas

One of my favourites was Mogwai's remix of the Manic's You Stole The Sun From My Heart. They basically removed everything apart from the voice. They also changed the chords completely. It's basically a Mogwai track with JDB singing.

Stuart Price manages to turn some crap from electroclash hipster gobshites into a decent track (by basically only keeping the vocals):

Very good suggestions in this thread; glad to see that amazing Stereolab remix already mentioned.

I'm fond of this one:

From the recent collection of Funkadelic remixes, this one from Moodymann is sublime:

After my ranting and raving about disliking Funkadelic, I saw this compilation and had to have it!

21 minutes long, this is a superb remix of 'Papa Was a Rolling Stone' by Tom Moulton & Danny Whitfield.

There are some pretty good Manics ones. David Holmes's Class Reunion of the Sunset Marquis remix of If You Tolerate This is pretty much just a 10 minute instrumental post-rock re-recording of the track (only the mellotron remains from the original), and is absolutely gorgeous: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lx6T9cfInp4

Saint Etienne's remix of There by the Grace of God is absolutely phenomenal, captures both the melancholy and euphoria of the original and elevates them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC89nCCviKc

Jon Carter's "Kevin Carter Busts Loose" is a wonderfully '90s breaksy Bond theme style instrumental: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6KkyF_a1g8

Apollo 440 go full on Bond with the same track as the Stealth Sonic Orchestra (including a wonderful tremolo guitar part by Noko): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncnfvNiOb0o

Meanwhile, one of my favourite Chemical Brothers tracks is the strange reversed sounds-fest that is their remix of Everything Must Go: http://www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,62835.msg3266739.html#msg3266739

Of course, any good from these remixes was totally undone a year or two later with their ode to protest singer Paul Robeson, 'Let Robeson Sing', being obliterated by electro-house producer Felix Da Housecat and Ian Brown's rap.

FSOL ostensibly took David Sylvian & Robert Fripp's track 'Darshan' (although in reality, they requested the multi-tracks of the entire album, and then used little but a few guitar textures from the whole thing) to create the frankly astonishing track 'Darshana', which is one of the most awe-inspiring pieces of music I've ever heard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siPs4tuLStY
Sylvian and Fripp acknowledged FSOL's contribution to the track enough to give them co-composition credits.

Many years later, they expanded on the whole 'epic remix' idea and turned Oasis's vaguely psychedelic 'Falling Down' into a full on 22 minute, five-part psych-rock EP, complete with Sigur Rós-esque piano breakdown, as The Amorphous Androgynous: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_onGF67ecs
Although they've been in-demand remixers ever since, usually providing 10+ minute reinventions, this probably remains the best of the lot.

BlodwynPig

Darshana is indeed up close to the pinnacle of human achievement.

This is on a split St Etienne/Fugu mix I have. It's great but not sure if it really is a remix because it doesn't seem to exist anywhere else

Top of the list for me would be the Avelanches' version of So Why So Sad. Strips away the odd 'spector xmas album' production and turns it into a breezy summer pop song
