Death from Above 1979 - Black History Month (Alan Braxe and Fred Falke Remix)

MikeShaft

St Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart (Fox Base Beta)

Richard X's remix/reproduction of the whole album is superb. And it even comes with a commentary version with added censorship every time they mention one of the clearly uncleared samples.

Speaking of Mr. Philips...
NIN - Only (Richard X Remix)
The only way to make what is possibly New Order's worst single listenable Jestsream (Richard X Remix)
From his vastly unappreciated 'Presents His X-Factor Volume 1' solo album, his reinterpretation of Spandau Ballet's 'Chant No .1'' - Rock Jacket

Yeah that Only Love remix was shockingly good :)

I always liked this WestBam remix of Collapsing New People by Fad Gadget

Frank De Wulf's brilliant remix of Dominator by Human Resource
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jurPD0JXIak

Larry Levan's remix of Inner Life - Ain't No Mountain High Enough - IMO one of the best pieces of dance music ever released, especially from about 5.20 when the vocal drops out for 4-5 minutes before the vocal comes back in at the end.

Stereo Macs were mentioned. There's an incredible Weatherall remix of Everything. It's called the Sabres on main street mix and it is beyond great. Can't find a youtube of it though : (

which, I discovered over the weekend, works quite nicely with this:

I love Pendulum's remix of 'Voodoo People'.

And the NIN remix of 'Democracy' by Killing Joke (Trent wasn't involved, I hear)

BlodwynPig

I love all the remixes of Jungle Bill by Yello (particularly Andrew Weatherall's Sabres of Paradise mixes - so housey and ahead of their time).

But this one entitled Chicken Dive mix is my favourite, having a tremendous build up, segueing into a the chicken cluck synth madness, a blistering guitar solo and great outro. No idea who did the remix, could have been Ian Tregoning - but he is credited with a mix on the same vinyl.

Love this one!

I really like how it's used in this 2008 Karl Lagerfeld catwalk show (in fact the whole soundtrack is pretty great): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C__9q5JLLuM

All these are pretty nifty

Nice Kevin Saunderson remix of Bostich from about the same time.

Absolutely love this. Took me quite a few listens to 'get it' but it's one of those rare remixes (more of a remix of a remix in this case) which not only stands on its own merits but also made me appreciate the source material in a new way. Specifically: just how passionate and generally fucking brilliant Bowie's vocal track is in the original.

Can't help but like this retro style breakbeat remix of Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman from the beginning of this year

mothman

Unlikely to be a popular choice - I myself loathe the original - but Royksopp's "Trembling Heart" remix of Coldplay's "Clocks" is rather magnificent.

In a similar vein, Four Tet's remix of Fix You

Does anyone know the story behind Nathan Fake's remix of The Sky Was Pink? It's one of those cases where the remix seems to be better known than the original, but I can't find much online about it beyond an interview where Fake says it became an albatross.

Makes me feel a bit guilty because it's one of my favourite bits of music and I haven't loved anything else by Fake as much.

Captain Z

Which mix? Nathan Fake did the original track, are you thinking of the James Holden remix?

Yes I am, got them mixed up because I am thick.
