Spotify combined with a new laptop has got me listening to music again. The Miles Davis complete Jack Johnson box is on there, which has reintroduced me to the all out fucking banger that is 'Duran take 4':

Miles' comment at the end is one of the greatest things in the history of sound being recordable.

And my favourite three and a half minutes of Adrian Sherwood doing straight up dub with his own particular twists.

Also been rinsing 'I Found That Essence Rare' and 'At Home He's A Tourist' by Gang of Four, but the Peel Sessions versions were the first ones I heard and I still prefer them to the album versions:

Just a touch more immediacy and energy, and they're allowed to say Durex.

Sounds like a chopped & screwed version of an unknown soul classic but it's actually a remix of a tune by an ex-member of The Rapture - amazing

Little Girls by Oingo Boingo.  Club banger.

Heard this R&B track on Radio Nova and can't get enough - Leven Kali - Do U Wrong (feat. Syd)

Hopefully there's a debut album coming this year!

Dr Rock

I did a really good karaoke version of Heroes and I keep listening to that.

Thx. That was my first attempt and I think you can hear issues at the start then I get better. I'd re-record it but my karaoke fun involves doing a song maybe once or twice then moving in to something else. Often dictated by my brother, who I plague him with these, so I've done White Rabbit and the Theme From Littlest Hobo amongst others. I should be working but I'm my own boss and I've given myself some time off.

This Year by the Mountain Goats. Catchy pop rock n roll.

Got tickets to see them Saturday, well excited.

this. mainly for the rhythm section, & the fab (teessider) violin solo at the end, but mainly for the rhythm section.
you can almost see wetton looking at thumper & thinking "at last, a drummer who just wellies the things!"

well, anyway, my fb pals have endured my frequent postings of this & are instructed to seek me out & pound the sense back into me should I ever profess weariness with this:

You're gonna love it mate, saw them in Leeds last year and they were fantastic. Darnielle is a genius and such a likeable, erudite presence on stage - it's almost a one man show.

Ferris

It's a tiny venue in a very dodgy bit of town. The show should have some edge.

Only bought the tickets yesterday for me and Mrs Ferris on a whim. Very excited.

Edit: pissed up on the streetcar home (oh no this is becoming a theme). Going to boot up my electric piano and guitar when I get home and do some covers into the void for no one in particular. Very satisfying to play.

It's what I play at midnight on New Years Eve in lieu of auld lang syne.

Give the full album (The Sunset Tree) a go - it's got some bangers on there. Tallahassee is also great.

That's next on the list.:)

The older jams are a lot more red raw and rusty. That was when Darnielle and Ware were slamming meth and rushing out thousands of tapes. It's short and sweeter than a hypnopompic flash ride.

Sweden isn't referred to once throughout which is the best thing to me.

DJ Premier nicely steels some brass from the crusaders and its like he occassionally trolls Jeru with them.
